I'm relatively new to this game, but last few MTB races I did almost ALL the riders were wearing lycra and very few baggy shorts...

C'mon guys, practice what you preach at the next race.

baggies are not race wear. The same as trail bikes (with bottle cages and bar ends) are not race bikes. It can be used but it is not intended for it.

Now I am confused. Can the ultimate experts please post some photos on the propper dress codes for both road and MTB cycling. I enjoy both and wear pretty much the same outfit regardless. I do however use chamois cr?me on the road and Zam-Buc off-road.

style man, i mean the real one who retired a while back, didn't hand out advice; he handed out disdain. if you don't have style, if you have to ask, then you just don't stand a chance.

Yes please, me too. I ride both road and mtb and I never realised that it was going to be so complicated. When I first started on the road I had a cannondale with an orange rack on the back and used a early model camelbak. The roadies looked at me a bit funny but were quite friendly. Sunday I went out on my MTB but some of my kit might have been meant for the road. I never came across anyone from the hub though because all the people I came across were friendly and helpfull and no one even asked for my certificate of competancy.
