i'v read somewhere that some pro's purposefully ride till they bonk from time to time in training.... apparently teaches your body to cope / conditions you??

i'v bonked a few times, and if you not sure if you have or haven't,,, a sure sign is, tears well up in your eyes!! you even want to cry tears of joy when you get home!!!!

Shees. Last years Mabalingwe Lion Man I started cramping big time on the big hill. Ended up cramping 5 times from there.

I remember walking with my bike, in total pain, with 20km's to go, seeing 2km/h on my speedo, and realising if I can't get on my bike again it will take 10 hours to get to the finish!

Also no breakfast. Go figure.

Please stop. Im getting flash backs. Had a similar experience, I just remember the last 3 km and feeling as if it was 30km. I think a person can only claim to have bonked when you feel like this. Hopefully never ever again.

Food or lack of it seems to be the common thread...didn't Contador forget to eat and bonk last year?

Do you perhaps have a link where he crowed, i can only find this statement from Lance which appears far removed from crowing.

LA "It Appears Alberto "bonked". Not that uncommon in endurance sports. It's miserable. He'll be back fightin' tomorrow."

Cramping and bonking different..... cramping can be stretched out and you can go on.... nothing can be done about bonking!!!

Happened to me climbing up to Rhodes Memorial. Worst feeling in the world. Thought I was going to die.

Problem was that I had too big a breakfast before ride.

I know. Just wanted to add my bad experience. Glad I haven't bonked yet! smiley1.gif

Cramping = pain and suffering

bonking = just suffering!!!

i'm not sure which is worse?? my sani partner 2 years ago was lying on his back still clipped in, cramping everywhere... 2 other guys had to help me get him unclipped and stretch him!!! i cant emagine the pain he suffered!!

Regularly go out on "Bonk rides"....

Empty stomach.  Strong cup of tar coffee.  Ride as hard as you can until you _____puke/fall over/die/phone a friend.____ (Pick one)

Very good training.Clap

The alternative to this is to get married.

Both EXCELLANT methods to teach your body to endure grueling, death defying circumstances!!!!

on comrades last year I got to westridge and was feeling ok except for the normal wear and tear when it felt thatt a brick wall had fallen on me.  It felt like I was going to pass out like when everything around you dims and brights and it feels as though you are going to fall over on your face and had to sit down next to the road.  I eventually got up again and struggled forward where it took me nearly two hours to do the last 7km..which is mainly downhill... my daughter still teases me and says i need to train the last 7km
