Ok, not that my experience counts or anything, but of the 14 transactions I have made at CRC and Totalcycling, EVERY Parcelforce shipment was handled by EMS, and EVERY Royal Mail shipment was handled by the local PO.

SARS and customs have absolutely no say in where your package gets routed. Yes, they can delay your package but they can't decide where it goes. The partner for parcelforce in SA really is EMS, not maybe or possibly.

So, once again, if you choose Parcelforce for your your shipping, it is the responsibility of EMS in South Africa to ensure that you get your package and that you sign for it.

wow. didnt know your skin was that thin velo. no one trivialized your experiences. No need to be sarcy about it.

that moment aside, you do have a point however. But as i clearly stated, i dont know the routings of packages, only what happened when I and others have ordered.

this from CRC:

Parcel Force International
Our recommended, best value and most popular express delivery service via the General Parcel network. Delivery to most major European destinations within 2-4 working days and Worldwide within 4-6 working days. Signature required on delivery. Detailed online tracking information is available.

UPS Express Saver
Express airmail delivery to most major European destinations within 1-2 working days and Worldwide within 2-3 working days. Signature required on delivery. Detailed online tracking information is available.

the portion in bold supports what velo has said. However, you can still sign receipt thereof if you fetch it at the post office. From CRCs side, it was delivered and signed for, ie the end result is the same irrespective of how.

Mikkelz: point being, one way or another, you gonna get your parcel, unless it got nicked. smiley1.gif

Think happy thoughts... I'm not going to consider the alternative! LOL

From my experience - if it ends up at the po, wait till the internet tracking shows you can collect, coz even if it is there, they check on the site and if its not listed as there they dont bother doing anything else...

Ordered not too long ago. Parcel force Int shipping. I tracked it from EMS via capemail to my PO in stellenbosch where I paid VAT + R25 handling fee.

Signed for it and showed my id.

Incidently, the parcel was opened by customs (i saw the blue SARS tape with which they ealed the box again) but inside were 2 sets of tyres and three individually wrapped CRC black bags.....still sealed .

So, SARS inspected the box but never opened any of the CRC wrapped packages.

They all felt like bike part thoug - nothing soft like clothing...FYI

Well, if that the case then I appologise for insisting otherwise.

On another forum there are quiet a few guys bitching about SARS opening parcels. I'm actually now wondering if it is perhaps not tied up to the Soccer World Cup in that they are checking for illegaly imported merchandise.

Just a theory, not a conspiracey.

stands to reason CB: FIFA is an immensely underfunded organisation in dire need of $$$ because.. well, you know how generous they are.. never wanting for themselves..

but I guess xray's dont really pick up clothing items, or it makes the image fuzzy i duno, but i've always wondered why they ahve to open it given modern technology.

I stand to beleive that they appointed a specail team at O T checking cycling parcels from europe and the east. To many cycles bringing in clothing, shoes ect under another tarrif.

Doing the same at the inernational post depot in Gauteng and Cape Town.

This comes from someone at customs. That is why most parcels is late and why its closed with SARS tape. Apparently they caught a dealer in Gauteng bringing in clothing under another tarrif and tried not to pay duty - I think duty is 30%.

Wheels please name this dealer, I would be quite pissed to buy something here with no garantee if it was being toted as being sa stock, hope he lowered his prices ?

Probly shafted the guys with the same prices as local stuff.

just out of interest, say my stuff got detained in JHB form CRC would i have to get a clearing agent, or would i be able to go down to where ever and sort it out myself? or are you required to register to do that kind of stuff?

Posted

You would need a clearing agent or alot of time on your hands, they could refer you to any agent in agents building but i belive there rates ae very high.
