[quote=holy rollerShockeddude' date=' you gotta get out of your laager?

last march in sleepy hollow. triple-header. xc, dh and 4x.

Hahaha, thanks for that! But ja, I knew about it, me being a cyclist and all, but how many other people knew about it? It was not a very high profile event, and although I don't know the numbers, I'm sure there weren't millions of people descending on Pmb? The SWC is a different ballgame...

LOLyeah, you're right about the numbers, but it was broadcast to a huge international audience.

broadcast and attendance at the venue not the same thing. I'm safer in my house watching it on TV than standing somewhere where some knife/gunwielding savage can get to me.

Since you're on the numbers, how many non-cyclists in SA knew about the MTB w/c?

someone living in polokwane who wants to watch a world cup match....?

of sorry it was a rhetorical question..

Most residents of Polokwane cannot afford the ticket costs to start with' date=' the idea is to get outsiders in to watch boosting toursim and local business. According to weekend newsaper lot of foreign tourists will base themselves in Jhb/PTA  and travel to games even those held in Durban.[/quote']

weren't they providing special low-cost tickets for poor locals?

Great idea HR extremly difficult to implement as how do you determine who'a a poor local and who's not, soccer games are poorly attended as is. Also finacially the less the ticket costs the more the expensive the stadium was to build, post 2010 what will happen to this stadium other than be a venue for some future ANC rally.

What does it matter what happens to the stadium after the world cup.

most of the revenue will go through the major centres.

The entire campaign is looking to bank some cash as an enterprise so some centres may make a loss.

If the stadium remains for use for school sports events then theres still a win for the community.

so... i just went to go look at tickets. As south africans we have exclusive rights to the crap cheap tickets behind the goalposts. I can therefore apply for a ticket behind the goalposts to watch brazil vs portugal in durban for R140!

its cheap....but can you imagine the noise. The majority of the vuvuzelas will be concentrated in one location!

If you're not keen and you get these tickets, I will give you R300 a head for however many you have (and no, that's not my final offer).

The same ticketing arrangements were there for ConFed cup & vuvuzelas were everywhere; across all people groups & seats - my son has one and the other one wants.

We were behind the goal for USA vs Brazil in the final and it was amazing.

I went round the Durban stadium last month, there isnt a bad seat in the house, it is amazing.

This World Cup, you know what?  It's gonna be amazing.

We've spent the money on stadiums etc. so best to stop bitchin and enjoy what's comin.

Guys please get over the knife wielding/gun wielding thugs...they are everywhere. My mate was mugged during the day in Paris outside his hotel, when he went back in to sort himself out( bleeding etc) the hotel staff told him he was the 7th guest of theirs mugged over two days.

Yes crime is bad, yes they will target tourists, but the security will be good around the venues.

9 pages of mainly negative posts...its coming lets embrace it.
