This is bad news!  Remember there are more motorists than cyclists and we need to win them over, not get all agro.  Start by sharing the road and then educating both the cyclists and motorists about the law.

We can only loose this one...

Ja nee.....the end of it will be that they ban all cyclists from an area that is condusive to recreational cycling due to some anorexic testosterone ridden group of yuppie brats on their R30k bicycles.

I wonder what that baggy pants MTB rider did to encourage that lock forward to use his wheel as a trampoline.

That does not seem to be a Mtb. Rather some sort of commuting bike with mudguards on. Is it really Muldersdrift?

Hopefully the situation will be handled correctly, with better understanding evolving between the parties.

I also saw the article.

three things are evident:

1. The "law" that was quoted is rather antiquated and needs to be updated.

2. Some clubs "no names-no pack drill" really need to sort themselves out big time.

3. Muldersdrift is in Mupumalanga but is negotiating with the Central Gauteng cycling union. Not the Mupamalanga Cycling union or Gauteng North Cycling Union. Why? Is it because the "problem" is migrant cyclists from Joburg?

That photo is from an altercation at the Kensington Market in Toronto.

All I did was a Google image search for "cyclist in fight with motorist" and it was the first result.  You can be sure that the The Cradle News did the same thing. I bet they didn't get permission for use of the image either.

I regularly ride in the Mudlersdrift area and have never had a problem, motorist seem to be more considerate.

ChrisH: Well done on spotting the pic, the newspaper should be taken to task about incititing readers and publisihng pictures which readers might assume be local.

Maybe someone should find out from Gauteng Cycling who deal with this matter and let them take it up with the relevant parties
