  • 4 months later...

Race organizers can learn something here - EMAIL US OUR RACE NUMBERS!!

I hate collecting these things in the middle of nowhere a day before the race!

So......5 months down the line and 5 pages of begging and race organisers STILL force us to drive 3 hours in traffic, take time off just to fetch a *(%*)$%^)$U$()%^*)($*%@$) lousy peace of paper!!!!

Who do we need to shag around here to get service????????????!!!!!!

Seriously.......its a piece of paper.....I DON'T want a goody bag. I WILL ABSO($*%LUTELY NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM YOUR STORE if you force me to go there and I will boycott as many races this year as possible to avoid driving after some piece of paper!!!!

I'm not doing any races that will be on Saturdays. Because that means I have to collect number during the week and I can not that and I'm JHB.

MTB are starting to get it right - you get a permanent number that you can use for all the MTN and Nissan MTB series races and more races are beig added.

Agree!

And what makes it worse... sometimes the collection times are beyond stupid.

Die Burger was a good example. You could only collect between 12:00 and 18:00. Which means you HAVE to takes 2-3 hours lunch just to collect your number. And I work only 25km from the collection venue. And even if you only work till 17:00, you're not gonna make it before 18:00... Really irritated me!

Question.....are the race organisers too stupid to realise the inconvenience they cause their entrants? Not to mention the $$$ spend on extra lunch leave and kilos on the car??!?!?! Or do they just plodder ahead because they are making too much money and don't care about their "clients"????? <_<

Have anyone ever thought about how many entrants (MONEY!!!!) they will GAIN by emailing numbers?

Simple example.....I am not riding the FastOne.

If I could get my number via mail I would have entered!!

How many more out there....if ONE guy does it.....how many more? Lets say 10% of potential riders decide against it because they don't want to drive to JHB %$*%^*$ TWICE in a week.......1800 entrants so far....180 more if the number were mailed = R33 000 more income.....and THAT doesn't phase them one bit?????

Must agree.....It seems the MTB guys are attempting to grow a brain!!!   :P :P

How about it? We just need ONE race organiser to make the bold step and try it out?? But without the support of Cyclelab it is NOT going to work as it remains one of the "entry hosting" thingamajings....as I understand it....

Come on guys.....

How about something REVOLUTIONARY like......

"Hello Mr. Kop.

Thank you for entering. Attached please find your race number. Please print it out and should you bring it into our ship within the next 10 days you will be eligible for 10% discount"

That way I will WANT to buy from you just because you don't FORCE me to drive there!!!!

Wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still say, get permanent cloth numbers. Even if it costs an extra R75 the first time you take out a license. This will also motivate people to renew licenses in time so that they do not have to pay another R75 to get a new number. Every year you also get a sticker with a date on that you can stick onto the number to show your payments are up to date. And then you can get a category/starting chute "flag" mailed to you that you print out and pin to the number.

Just like the good 'ld days!!!!!

Still have my permenant plastic number....used to stick my stickers in a row at the bottom! :D

Mampara....I think the ONLY complaint here would be the race sponsors not being able to print their logos on the numbers........

How much advertising they'll loose, hell knows...

Still......CSA won't be bothered about this and race organisers don't care......

Still can't see why they dont see the advantages in this......no cable ties, envelopes, two people traveling to babysit numbers, organising goody bags etc etc etc.

I couldn't agree more , I work in Centurion when am I supposed to got to JHB to get a frikken number and why should all number collections always include Cyclelab Fourways , doesn't make sense why are they so special.

But yes I am also one of the people not entering this race just because of this , last year I did nearly every race on the calender and decided this year I am not doing any races where the number collection is inconvenient to attend.

If there are more people doing this surely the organizers will start losing money and will be forced to rethink their strategy , in the mean time why not make a number collection point in JHB and a number collection point in PTA for the guys up here.

But 1st prize would be to print your own number.

My 5c.

I have decided I no longer drive out for race numbers. I print out my race registration confirmation and keep that in my pocket to show if anybody tries to stop me, and thats it. I am sure they cant force me not to ride if I have proof i paid. maybe if more start doing that they will getr the message

If I understand correctly, and please tell me if I am wrong here, the organisers register their event at Cyclelab. For that they pay X amount per rider and riders have to collect then from the shop, generating more feet in the store.

2000 (Fast One) race entry pickups, 10% of them spend R100, generates R20k turnover right there!

You don't use Cyclelab for entries, you have the create your own system.

Everyone is in it for a buck......

Riding in the racing cats are difficult. They literally take you out of the bunch if you don't have your number.....and fine you!

That said, I see more and more riders in three different clubs in Pretoria that does the club rides instead of races....able and fit to race up front but just not in the mood for eating up all this logistical crap!!!

IMO....a loss to racing in SA!!!
