Slowbee Posted June 18, 2010 Share Coenie trust me its not. I have worked in this field for a very very long time. I currently handle IT Risk analysis cases like this for a UK bank. And there is nothing illegal about it' date=' if they obtained your information in a legal way. I.E. you registered on any website where it does not explicitly say they will NOT use or sell your details. [/quote'] that is an interesting point Covie - so second hand info obtained in a legal way is ok. Does this also apply if the information was originally obtained illegally. Coenie read the following very carefull and go and think about it for a few seconds : All unsolicited bulk e-mail is spam with the following exceptions: ?Mail sent by one party to another where there is already a prior relationship between the two parties and subject matter of the message(s) concerns that relationship, is not spam. Only if you can prove without a reasonable doubt that the primary source was obtained in an illegal fashion. Gets a bit more complicated since there are countries in the world with very lax laws regarding this type of thing and if the original server was hosted in one of those countries then you will run into issues. Spud Posted June 18, 2010 Share Actually the million rand type emails are a SCAM - different to SPAM' date=' and does anyone buy viagra after recieving one of those mails ? You deserve to get SCAMMED if you do. A newsletter from a hobby or sport associated body is hardly spam FFS.[/quote'] dude, you need to ride your bike more and relax. However - your post raises the exact point. million rand emails in any inbox ...... should be regarded as spam (even though it is advertising a scam). It is unwanted email. recieving viagra type emails take up time/data etc and is also unwanted. getting a newsletter (even from your local potato box hobby shop), which is unwanted (i.e you never asked for it), can this also be regarded as spam? if it is unwanted is it spam? Covie, agree its easy to stop on your side, but then fine line between when people decide that its acceptable and when not (ie. potato hobby shop newsletter is acceptable ... but viagra not) I recieved ten of them this week...it wasnt the eight from my girlfriend that I was upset about...it was the two from my Mom that really hurt. Slowbee Posted June 18, 2010 Share nah covie - dont worry, at least I understand the process a little better. but the legal angle is pretty darn interesting. and it is also interesting about what people will do in order to stand by their principles

covie Posted June 18, 2010 Share Yeah i agree slowbee, although even though i strip myself at times at all the shait trying to get into my inbox, I have to admit that I will always first try to just unsubscribe regardless of how they got my details. If that doesnt work I will assume technical glitch and contact the company and request being removed, if that doesnt work then its full on warefare. But granted to say i dont think any of the above mentioned companies appear to have been malicious, so rather mail them ask them to be removed, and if they dont then come and make a big fuss about it. ill even write you a nice little program that will use various addresses through a couple of open relays to bomb them with spam
