well' date=' technically speaking. Ronel is SA champ? UCI rule states that National champion has immediate selection into worlds.. not true??

thats the only reason why Nolan is in the team. ie: a sprinter in a climbers race.

csa make rules but cant even use there governing bodies rules

Point CSA is F**cked up!

no two ways about it

If this is true, when one is a National champ do they have to be selected by their union or can they enter individual?

If so can Ronel go to worlds on her own, seeing that only 4 woman were selected and SA are allowed 5 in worlds?

.....so now, if you are not a top, front of the pack, pro or semi pro, podium finishing cyclist, you arent allowed to have an opinion.?

..............what a load of hogwash.!

.............since when did "ability" have anything to do with it.?

Is it not about time people started realising that fans and supporters are not stupid, often they take the time to learn more about the sport than the proffessionals, they generally have a keen sense of morality and whats right and wrong, they understand the sport and thats what matters - not their ability.

Wonder Women, I think all the ladies in the bunch feel Ronel was hard done by, including me, I feel her name should of been the first on the list having the 2 SA titels behind her.  We cant go loosing our top ladies, but complaining on the web is not going to change a single thing, a letter or something will need to be send or delivered to csa ( not sure how) I was in the same boat last year when I won the TT title and was told not allowed to go to the TT worlds.

Spinnekop, sponsors are welcome to read this and decide, this is how many sponsor pull out of racing mens and ladies.

And Crux, I dont think we should sit back and let this happen year after year, because that is whats going to happen unfortunaltely, we need to look after Cherise and get her overseas before this kills her excitement for racing aswell.

There will always be politics in the sport and somebody will always feel done in somehow. The bottom line is that not one of the selected girls is up to any standard to go race world champs including Ronel, if someone with the potential to end up in the top 10 at WC were kept from the opportunity to do South-Africa proud 19 pages of this debate would have had value but lets just face it here, NO WOMAN  racing in SA all year long in Tea Party races (there is the exception like the Argus and a couple of others, you can count on one hand) will EVER have success at worlds.

Sorry, the argus is a tea party race!!! The one who can slipstream the best, wins!!!

And wait till Yolandi and Arien are back, then it would be some more racing like the beginning of the year!

Wit Rot, slipstreaming happens to be a fundamental aspect of cycling and if you look at this years Argus results there are apparently only 3 girls in the whole ladies bunch that CAN slipstream the rest weren?t even in sight at the finish.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

haha.... ja. This year was probably the hardest and still just slip streaming. Get those men out of there and then we see who can race!!

So if you aren't expected to place top 10 you shouldn't go?  Why, then only 10 girls need to go

sorry guys here i have to agree with athena.. the ladies arent yet ready to get top 10 at worlds. but then again whats the point of sending riders to altitude after no specific training and expecting results. Cherise was fortunate enough to get altitude training before worlds. And got the result she rightfully deserved.

however it would have been completely different story if she went over a week before the race.

Ladies bunches are avg. over 40km/hr in races that are 50km longer than in south africa.

the racing standard has been improving but is still nowhere near to what it should be to get a top10 in elite woman at worlds. Sorry guys its fact, cycling is a hard sport.

so what should we do, accept that we are going to get our asses handed to us, only one woman will finish the race being Marissa.. the rest will have some or other excuse. than get funding from lotto and put together a womans development program and take a team of 6 to europe for the world cup season and have them prepare properly 6 months before worlds.

thats the only way we will ever get results at a world championships.

PS. to europeans races in SA are nothing more than fun rides, if you tell them you won 94.7 or argus they will laugh at you.

Well Cracked Up. There is 2 girls riding overseas. Yolandi du Toit and Arien Torsius. They compete regularly in big races and tours!! Why then not sending them both! They have been there for 6 months and both doing well!

Cashandra - two points you make that need to be challenged.

Firstly, I doubt the ladies in the front bunch have the best view of who is around them and who has ability.  Perhaps from the team, but (good) TV would be best to get a good picture of who is racing the strongest and smartest.

Secondly, the selection does have something to do with me, at least as much as it does you.  This team is a South African national team and represents me and the whole nation.  I, and everyone else in this country, has a right to comment and demand reasoning behind selection and non-selection.
