I would love to see the hospital workers getting hurt in one of these riots an then taken to a hospital where there is no one to take care of them. I would actually pay good money to see this. Or the child of a teachers telling his parent he is flunking because the teachers striked.

One can only wait to hear the unions bleatings at the end of the strike as to the effectiveness of the stayaway, nothing mentioned about the dedicated numbers while sysmpathetic to the reasons would have continued working but were forced to stay away. The unions as always will state their members were diciplined and that intimidation incidents are either being done by non union criminal elements or did not take place.

The police are doing exactly what they claim to be doing, monitoring the strikers. Yesterday they monitored how doctors, patients, non striking nurses were prevented from accessing Hospitals without taking action. This morning in Benoni they monitored how strikers went to non participating schools and watched how they chased teachers out of classrooms without taking policing action, when asked for comment they replied they are there to monitor.

This puts the pay conditions of the strikers into some context. From today's Business Report:

Mike Schussler, the research director of Economists.co.za, said public sector workers already received the lion’s share of the nation’s wage bill. “They get 28 percent of all wages in the formal sector, although they make up just over 21 percent of formal sector workers.”

Levy said the government should be mounting a campaign to mobilise public opinion. “Public service workers earn more than those in the private sector and generally do a lot less. They are a labour elite and government should have challenged the unions to a public enquiry so the public could get an accurate view of just how well or badly off they are.”

Cape Town - Patients facing life and death situations must "negotiate" with strikers about crossing hospital picket lines, a union declared on Friday.

That just says it all about the mentality of who we are dealing with dont it.!!!!!

One must now negotiate with a mob of undiciplined rabble to get critical medical attention for patients!!!.

That must surely go down in my record book as one of the most psychotic, foolish, obstructive and narcistic comments I have ever heard.

Makes you wonder where the human rights commission are now. For some reason they're very quiet... [deleted what I wanted to say here about them]

Sorry if I've missed something, but aren't all schools on the same terms and holidays this year? My kids have a two-week midterm that was supposed to start today, but they got an extra day after the headmaster deemed the risk too great to continue with classes.

Nope my kids are still at school. One is at a private and one at government and they are still working. All very confusing isn't it?

The SAHRC only reacts when a complaint is made to it. It does not exist to make social commentary.

My kids are at CBC in Boksburg, and they were scheduled to finished the "term" at 11 today. Maybe they were just getting an extra day over the public schools anyway? I dunno…

Listening to 702, reported that Wordsworth were attacked invaded occupied and a primary school soon after, spokesperson for the mob group said that it should not be seen as a form of intimidation but rather as persuading others to join them.

So a baseball bat against the head shouldn't be seen as assult with the intent to seriously **** him up, it should be seen as a way of persuading him to get the **** out of my school?
