Future Forward Dome to Dome tour

Recommended Posts

I  would like to run a concept past all you cycle-mad folksBig Smile

This will be a charity event. It is a 3 day tour. Friday Road stage from Jhb to Parys(in the Freestate!), about 150km. Saturday MTB Crater Cruise route, 100km. Sunday Road stage Parys to Jhb, about 150km.

The finer details are already well into the planning stage, but what do you guys think of this concept? We want to limit the number to 100, so it will be very exclusive. Will become an annual event.

Droster, the route you want to take,  I can advise on a few.  I cycle from Jhb to Vdbp and from there to Parys often!

I'll join you on the Jhb - Vdbp and Vdbp - Jhb, but I'm staying in Vdbp, lekker in a warm bed, nice food et al!

Sounds good' date=' just don't think I'm ready for 150km yet...

The one route that can be taken is FLAT upto Vanderbijlpark (much like the Lido route we did Sunday).  That totals about 75km.  After that it can be (1) flat to rolling with a few drags or (2) resonably up-ish or (3) ERTJIES berg.

The point of this ride would be to socialise, so the intention is not to race. So, there will be at least one forced stop on the road satges, as well as others to allow slower riders to catch up. Trust me when I tell you that you will easily do it.

We are also planning to offer both the 100km and the 50km crater cruise on the saturday. So, if the road stage was a bit tough, you can always opt for the shorter mtb route.

OK, one of the details I left out is that we are also planning a 85km road stage for the saturday. But we would really like to punt this as a mixed event, with both road and mtb stages, to encourage the roadies into mtb, and also the mtb'ers into road. S, just go and buy one . . . .

Accomodation will be included in your entry fee, and will be in the form of a 2-man tent with 2 foam matresses. These tents are put up in the Cyclone factory. For those of you guys that did the Ride 24-hour race in Parys earlier this year, will know what I am talking about. If you wish to stay elsewhere, no problem. There is also plenty of space to put up your own dome tent if you want to do that
