chris_w_65 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Lets hear it Rather check out the new AARTO poll https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/92326-aarto-cycle-laws/
slowpoke Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 due to clipless pedals the pedals don't have reflectors, but i refuse to wear shoes without them, also refuse to wear a top without unless it's broad daylight. wheel-wise i will not ride in the dark without the knog frongs on (around rear hub and on fork) AND i have valve lights :-) i am the original christmas tree
dirtrider Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I speed , jump red lights , use Stop signs as Yield signs , got false plates om my truck , only got two working brakes on my car ............ But I got reflextors on my pedals .
Minion Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I try not to ride between sunset and sunrise or in bad visibility. When I have no choice but to ride in those conditions, I prefer to use active lighting, rather than passive reflectors. So, I guess I am guilty of violating the letter of the law while adhering to its spirit.
chris_w_65 Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 I realize a lot of us have other means of being visible such as lights but the law is the law and if you break one law you will break them all.....
bikemonster Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I realize a lot of us have other means of being visible such as lights but the law is the law and if you break one law you will break them all..... Absolutely! It's a tiny step from not having reflectors to committing murder.
CAAD4 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 First they must catch you. They they can try and give you demerit points, due to no reflectors?
Eldron Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I realize a lot of us have other means of being visible such as lights but the law is the law and if you break one law you will break them all..... I speak under correction but I believe there is still a law in SA that dictates that you should signal your intent to turn/change lanes when cycling by removing one hand from the bars and signalling your intent. There is also a law that states BOTH hands must be on the bars at all times... Yet another example of how laws alone will never make the roads safe. Laws PLUS brains people - laws plus brains.
Brighter-Lights Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 show me ANY small size reflector to be fitted in spokes or elsewhere, that's visible at 150m... the lights and flashers we use are more visible by far...
splat Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Try and enforce that on all the dikwiel commuters out there who dont even have helmets, let alone fully functional bikes in good working order.
dirtrider Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 You can think up as many excuses as you want to , the fact is that you are breaking the law !! So next time you wanna tune me about speeding , first think about it !
Iron Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 how can you enforce a law on a mode of transport that does not need to be licenced? in a car you need a drivers licence to know the rules , no one needs a bicycle licence so im unsure of how to put legal laws around something that does not need to be legal.

pastapouch Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Uhm, hang a sec, traffic offences haven't been classified as criminal offences for a looongggg time now. In the old days when you committed a traffic offence it used to go on your criminal record, so this poll isn't even valid. Even if I do jump red robots, speed and others, I'm not a criminal.
Capricorn Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 in the empty forest, no one can hear your reflector scream..
