Personal attacks and a review of the Forum Rules

Most importantly, the actions of the mod's should impart the same 'yardstick' across to Hubbers, which will ulimately result in self-moderation...

My 2 cents!

This is very true and a good argument. In the end what you want is for Hubbers to self regulate and call people to order themselves, if they see someone moving out of line ...

The role of Admin would then be to only prevent some group "ganging" up on someone where he receives no support from fellow Hubbers if exposed to personal and verbal attacks.

My 2c .

the sad fact is its been proven here by a few people that they cannot control themselves and they obvioulsy have no respect for anyone.... that is why this has become necessary.

I agree with a previous poster that said, if you dont like to be "controlled" in this manner, take your pie and waai.

If these people had the manners, respect etc in the first place, it wouldnt have gone this way.

Good luck with the task at hand Admin.

not going to be easy - hub is unfortunately infested by some cockroaches

What about abusing friends? When we ride I am always calling OPCrace a fat c**t, and he calls me a smelly d**s. No offence is meant or taken.

I think this is a good example of what is acceptable in private, (between friends) vs in public .

In the absence of common courtesy some form of moderation is both necessary and desirable IMHO. Short of having a poll on every issue and statement imaginable, moderation will be both subjective and selective. I suppose if the moderation becomes too extreme or selective, members will move on and perhaps another hub will develop...

I try not to use swear words at people directly( But Joh those powerbalance people test my resolve).

If I use the word K@k it will be "don't use those gels they are K#K".

Doesn't take much to be nice.

Personally I think all forms of swear words should be banned as that is then a very clear line that cannot be moved. Besides there are plenty of good english and afrikaans words that can be used to replace them.

There will always be room for moving a boundary so long as you are seen to be weak in shifting that boundary from its original position.

sheesh lots of opinions on right vs partly right vs wrong, my humble 200000000000000000000000000 zim dollars is that if you dont want to be called by something in an argument dont post it, that way even if what you are saying is lighthearted and someone having a bad day or even mis interpreting what is being said, see's the post no offence can be taken. also there is a very fine line between a joke and personal attack, even if only in perception.

i do not envy Admin for having to deal with this situatuion, all i can say is i really do enjoy the forum, yes that includes some of the less than correct personal attcks, only because i can walk away and not take offence, touch wood if i was on the other side of the attack i may feel differently.

good luck.

oh on a lighter note..... POPCORN!....PEANUTS!.....POPCORN!....PEANUTS!.....hehehe. :D

Context is everything, and imo, the only way to go - especially in light of Hubbers such as Oom Big H! :P

There needs to be a subjective element, to allow discretion to be applied, so as to provide for those instances where - when seen in context - the particular word / phrase / chirp, was ok. Maybe a bit naughty, but ok.

The minute you apply the "alles of niks" approach - where irrespective of the particular context/bakground etc, if a word used is on the no-no list and moderation is then automatically applied, you lose the fluidity of the forum, and imo go a long-way in taking away the particular spirit/character/personality of the forum...

In sohrt - trust that the moderators will get things wrong, but will do so whilst trying to get things right.

Things will be a bit tricky in the beginning, but over time, as the moderators become comfortable with the role, and build-up an inherent 'yardstick' about what is right, and what is not - things will return to 'normal'.

Most importantly, the actions of the mod's should impart the same 'yardstick' across to Hubbers, which will ulimately result in self-moderation...

I was brought up in a household where we did not use foul language or tell dirty jokes and we were taught to respect woman and children by doing the same in their presence. Based on the way I was brought up and probably many others like me who have similar rules in their houses today and also that there are probably plenty of woman and children right here on the hub with us, I personally would like to see all forms of foul language, sexually offensive and obscene language as well as racist and offensive language banned outright from the HUB. If you want to speak dirty go and do it in private. This is a public forum.
