MTB_Roadie Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 the 310XT got moisture in somehow.... I bought the Sigma ROX 8.0.....yes not the top of the range but really impressed with all the functions!! Show u descends, accents and everything during the training/race. I am just very surprised and should have made the move towards it faster!
Mish100 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 The rox 8 and 9 is way to complicated. I would say the garmin 500 way better.
DaLoCo Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I use a Garmin Edge 305, have been using it for three years. Right in the beginning I pulled the USB out whilst it was communicating, and had to do a hard reset. I have not had a days issue after that, so my Garmin experience is quite a bit different. BTW, I am not trying to knock those that had bad experiences, as those do very definitely happen
Tankman Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 the 310XT got moisture in somehow.... That's why you should not compare the units, ok it is not supposed to get moisture in it but it may just happen when you SWIM with it Garmin or Avnic rather, has been pretty good with their exchange policies. Take your problem unit in and a couple of days later there is a brand new sealed unit waiting at the office. (experience with the edge 305 - 4 times!).I have dad quite a few different units and I am happiest with the Edge 500 - wouldnt mind the Edge 800 but Im a roadie at heart so that a bit of an overkill for the road.
Andre 77 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I have the Sigma Rox 9 and is the best i have used it give you every thing you want.

MTB_Roadie Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 The rox 8 and 9 is way to complicated. I would say the garmin 500 way better. I set up the whole thing without a manual, also edited settings, even added my name to it, etc...was very easy and also easy to read eveything and browse around...I aint the very technical type either....so what parts is cmplicated? And its also a excellnt price compared to your Garmin, etc. Comes with cadence sensors, HR Monitor chest strap, speedo sensor, etc.
Weight Weenie Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I had a suunto t3 with the bike kit, worked well enough, but eventually the HR strap, watch strap and sensor was caput so to replace those and get a pc mount and software was so expensive I just bought an Edge500 from CRC. ALso at the time Duesouth did not want to order a HR strap for me and Suunto had no local agent either. And looking at Bos's experience I would't be worried about local backup either, just buy from bike-inn and buy another one with the change vs local prices if it goes caput.
chris_w_65 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I have the 310XT. I enjoy it and it is pretty cool that I could hook up my ANT+ Powertap with itI went with the 310 over the 500 because I thought I may be doing some running in the future
Chubba Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I have a garmin forerunner 405 and have been very happy with it and it has been punished. Only issue i have it that the battery life, although rechargeable is not to lekka. Full GPS and loads easily onto your PC/Laptop either onto desktop software on onto the garmin site (so you can access this anywhere) Same as the edge. I use it for cycling (have a bike mount), hiking and running. Easy to wear. This is the model line up - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=11039 - my onehttps://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=31859 - same as one above just better calorific calculation.https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=83274 - the new one
Jaco-fiets Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I have tried garmin last year because of all the hype at that stage. Bought the edge 305. What i liked about it was the amount of displays on the screen. That unfortunatly was that. Its way to bulky on handlebar. If you take a tumble with a mtb it will be in pieces. I did not find the software very user friendly at that stage. When i had trouble with the unit/software i tried to get info from them but never had any support what so ever. I sold it within 30 days and went back to my trusted polar. The polar backup in SA is also to notch

Small, light, looks the part & does the job!Garmin has never really impressed me with their software, Training Centre in particular is useless, rather use SportTracks, much better!

Guest agteros Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Tankman, where can I get SportTracks and would it work with an Edge 800? You get it at http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/sporttracks/ I open and import the .fit file on the Edge 800, which shows as a portable drive (two drives; one for internal memory, on for SD card) activities to be found under <Drive letter>:\Garmin\Activities
