Nobody want to be the one sitting with the shlep of organising it.

mampara: dont be boring. it's not the schlep, it's drivel driven benoni slippery banana surrounding the whole stinking pile of turd that is anything CRC. We all know that by now, surely

hi people who order from crc clearly dont want to support local industry and shops , funny thing is ur bakup from crc is non existant and not even worth the effort maybe we should all try support local shops so that they will aventually be able to get stock and bikes at lower cost ,

Oh Boy

You are about to become leaky, leekie.

Young man (this I feel is a safe assumption), the day that LBS's can 'get' stock (and bikes, which are stock incidentally)at lower cost, is the day that we will all be able to get free bread and milk at our local Woolworths when we pop in to buy chocolate mousse.

If you can describe the method by which you think they may arrive at this earth shatteringly obvious statement, would you care to share?

This is what happens with CRC.

You order > they have it! You place it in your imaginary shopping trolley > they request your kaaa'ching.

You find yourself pleasantly surprised that it is half the price (less on sundays) than anything seen whilst trolling your LBS's.

They send you a thank-you note, and some email; which is quite nice if you don't have many friends.

As you close your email off for the night you notice that the tracking details show you that the DHL aeroplane carrying your goodies has safely passed through Mauritanian airspace (because they do it so often they know where all the Al Qaeda ASM sites are)and should be with you tomorrow. Provided C&Ex are not sleeping or on strike in Jhbg. 2 days later you are screaming down a trail, ringing your shiny new bell, and shifting through your new drivetrain quicker than The Stig.

If it breaks, or is wrong 'cause you didn't bother to ask, you send it back and they sort it. And it still costs you a pittance compared.

Or you could go to your LBS...

You walk in, and can't find a trolley, or an assistant.

But no fear, you know what you need. 5 items, no prob, except you can only find one of the 5, and while you are at it you find the assistant down behind the counter texting his school buddy.

>"Oh, there you are! I need a 110 5degree headstem, this one is 90mm, and I would like a white one.. you got?"

>"'Yes Sir, that is a headstem'.. no Sir, Black is all we have, why would you want white?"

>"Sorry if I misunderstood me, I though I mention that it was a headstem, it's not the length I am looking for, and it isn't white, do you have a black 110 5degree?"

>"Dunno. Don't think so. Did you look on the shelf?"

>"Yes I did, I found this peanut butter sandwich!, is it yours."

>"Yea, shot, I must have left it there yesterday. Anything else I can help with Sir?"

>" No, just this, don't worry about the drivetrain and tyres. Can you phone the supplier and ask when you can have one here?"

>Uhh,dunno, like maybe - OK (rings)...Howzit China, have you......no, yes, no, cool, when, ok cool...shot, cheers"

Sorry Sir, they have a 125mm 10degree, he says he can have it here by next week wednesday...yes sir, I know today is wednesday, but seven days is not, like too bad, theres like a weekend in between..do you want it Sir? Oh, and its black"

>"Sir......sir?"""

CRC all the way laddie, and they aren't bloody Americans, they are true blood Irishmen...

The " wheel bags " might be checked at local customs and be classified as " luggage " and it might then be kept there ..... to free your order ( sometimes the whole order ) you must paid a clearing agent at a fee and pay the 30 % import duty plus the 14 % VAT and 2 % for what ever.... Good luck !

Aww what the hell - let's poor some petrol on this here flammage... :P

I was determined to go local - need a new seatpost, 27.2mm. Thomson Elite inline.

Only I want a silver one - not a black one.

The first young-un at a LBS informed me you don't get silver ones. I considered referring him to my recent post, where I sold my old silver Thomson, but decided against it.

He was as keen to help me as what I presume Steve the Hof is to go and watch U2. Didn't even bother to offer calling the suppliers.

[As an aside - CWC also appears to only stock black ones]

The 2nd LBS also said he only knew of black ones, but would pick up the phone and contact the supplier.

As described by Drongo, "yes, yes, yes, I see, when?, WHEN? I see, Thank you".

Yes - they can get a silver one, but they will need to order it. But just for me. A "special" order - for me - special. I ask - "how long"? He says - wait for it - two months. TWO MONTHS!

I could probably make my own seatpost in TWO MONTHS. :cursing:

Now - don't get me wrong. The 1st LBS irritated me, and is why I'm using them less and less. The 2nd LBS did what he was supposed to - I have no beef with him, none whatsoever - he even rolled his eyes and said it's madness - that I may as well order through CRC. And of course that's exactly what I'm going to do.

My bike will be re-built at the 2nd LBS - but let's get one thing clear, it's not the LBS's that are the problem, it's the suppliers. They hide behind the LBS, and screw us all over. They're obviously not concerned with how things are going - so until the LBS's start making a noise (or, like CWC start going direct), it's going to remain unchaged....

We suffer - the LBS suffers - the Suppliers presumably don't. Madness.

My 2 cents.

My apologies for stirring, their prices are however much better than local. Could not get egg beaters at any of my local shops for less than R 700 crc start as low as r300.

I just bought a pair of Crank Brothers Eggbeater MXR Silver(incl cleats) for R250 delivery and all included. It was ordered on Friday and hand delivered via RAM couriers to my door on Monday afternoon. Great service kept me updated all the way. Big UP to www.bicicletta.co.za
