Why only one year?

(maybe I didn't read the article properly. Does it explain why he didn't get the usual 2 year ban? Is it because they might accept that it was accidental?)

What happened to the traces of plasticiser that indicate blood doping? I lost track of that thread.

I think the way it works is that the Spanish will present the proposed sanction to the UCI and WADA, who will decide if they accept it or not.

I also thought it would be a 2 year ban automatically?

I wonder what that RadioShack rider thinks of it all.

I think he might try get the 2009 title stripped too. Then he is one rider away from an 8th title

Which ever way it goes it looks like we have a new TDF winner for 2010 - Andy Schleck. I wonder what he must be thinking.

Maybe he's thinking.....that's the only way I can win the Tour...... ;)

At least until I can learn to change gears properly and to TT...

Plasticiser test isn't ratified by uci or wada, so nothing can come of it (yet - they will try and get it approved and retroactive...)

There is no mandatory sanction for clenbuterol. The spanish federation must decide on the case, mete out any punishment if the see fit,and the uci/wada can approve it or appeal it at the CAS, as can contador appeal at the CAS.

I wonder if Contador will quit the sport now? I remember in the beginning he said if he was found guilty he would quit.

And become a Beef Cattle Farmer specialising in supplying cycling teams? :D

He'll feel better now... good read. Seems like Andy will care more than we think.

Comment by reader of this article (see below). They all DOPE and that is the sad part about this great sport. Spoke to an retired Iron Man racer and said he used to dope and there is almost no way that a non doper can compete with a doper at this level.

what a joke schleck is... is he ever going to take responsibility for dropping his own chain by being in the wrong gear? on top of that, he, without hesitation left contador and armstrong after his brother held them up in a crash... further, was it not his father who was caught with a trunk full of steroids and his brother who was given a ban for doping? are we to believe that andy was on a different track than his father and frank who he has trained with since he was a child. he should be a man and concede that he popped his own chain and alberto handed him the stage win on the col de tourmalet as a gesture. is this andy suddenly saying he is deserved of getting contador's yellow jersey after months and months of saying he doesn't want it. regardless of contador's suspension or alleged clenbuterol use (of which not one scientist has been able to explain why it didn't show up the day before or the day after which 100% disproves a plasticizer doping theory), schleck is a lousy sportsman and they should give the title to the assasin or sanchez who have at least had the good grace to shut up and ride.

Hahahahahaha! No, not THAT Shack rider! The guy who got bust for the same substance.

the chink? i heard his sentence is being reduced to 1yr...

the whole story stinks. They cover up for some riders, others get the book thrown at them

"50 picograms/millilitre is actually 40 times less than a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory is required to be able to detect. Had Contador’s samples been tested by most laboratories in the World the substance might well have gone undetected, but the laboratory in Cologne, Germany has newer and more precise testing equipment than many others. There is no legal threshold for clenbuterol however, which means that any detected amount is classed as a positive test."

Can You imagine how much Contador hates the Germans now!

Bet He sold his Merc after this :D
