Quite frankly, who cares what the woman in the shop says, the retailer is just the intermediary, your issue is with the manufacturers representitive here in SA, so, in theory, any retailer who officially represents that line in SA should assist you,................THATS SIMPLY WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU REPRESENT A BRAND,................... I dont see what differance it makes where you purchased it, maybe you moved up here yesterday from Blikkiesfontein, what are you expected to do, get in the car and drive back there for service?

The problem really is ,.............. service levels across all walks of life in SA are so dismal, when someone just dos their job, we almost fall over and think its "outstanding service".

Outstanding service in your case would be if the distributor sends the wheels back to your abode (so you dont have to drive around) via courier at their cost, and for your inconvenience includes a voucher or a free hat or a whatever, this could be followed up by a call a few days later by the retailer or distributor to see if all is okay and to convey their apology.

But, Hey, will that happen here on the dark point of Africa.......................very doubtfull, but in a service orientated country like the USA it would just be NORMAL and EXPECTED,.......................................... note I said, "NORMAL and EXPECTED" ........................not "OUTSTANDING".!

Maybe this is 'petty' but if I have new tyres fitted it shows me if the mechanic cares if he places the tyre logo either at the valve or at a logo on the rim so that they both look the same!

Yes' date=' you are PETTY!

I had a shop rebuild my wheels because the valve hole did not line up with the lettering on the hubs ala Sheldon Brown style.

service = professionalism and thats not here.

2 years ago i had a surprise. went to the ARGUS expo to sort out my POLAR cause it was misting up after a cold ride or just a shower. The watch was one (1) day past its warranty. Dude told me to come back the next day. Came back dude gave me a watch back and i asked cool so did u fix it. They replaced the watch with a brand new one. He said the housing was cracked inside and now questions asked i got a BRAND NEW FREAKIN WATCH. i was jumping out of joy. i was so blown away. service in deed

If you guys want to see service, buy a Leatherman. Use it like crazy and bend it or strip it what ever. Then go to these outdoor shows where they 99 out of 100 time have a stall. They will replace everything that might be or look wrong for free.

Joe Low' date=' don't get me wrong!!!  Tony is a GREAT oke and excellent with his customers.  But this other oke, EISH!!!

This other oke is meesing up badly.  Initially he told me my 'dale was sh|t, I should ride Italian.  Then the Colnago came along, and I was told I'm CRAZY to buy the bike, and and and.....  A lot has happened.  Delgado has had a "run in" with him as well.  Because of that CHOP I will not visit the shop.

Sorry cant agree with you here ... I have been to his shop on numerous occasions (live about 2 km away), each time wanting to purchase something, and each time leaving because his service was rubbish and he tried to sell me something he had in stock as oppossed to what was correct for me

Bottom line ... he has just lost out on his 4th bike sale to me, plus numerous other bits and pieces.

I would rather travel to the complete other side of town and support Westdene - always friendly, always value for money

I like Finish Line Cycles. There's a lung burstin mtb ride every Wed @ 3pm and again on Sat & Sun mornings.

I get free coffee ........... made from real beans and h2o that hasn't been watered down. When my bike got stolen they were sympathetic and sold me another (much, much more expensive) one.  Clint (aka Bob the Builder) says crime does pay!!

Oh, they do a good job fixin things and sellin things as well.

I managed to break the tip of my pliers and bend a screwdriver on my Leatherman Wave by using it in ways it was probably not intended for (don't ask).

I took it to Cape Union Mart in Rosebank to get them to repair it (I was completely in the wrong and was willing to pay to get it fixed). They replaced it on the spot with brand new one, no questions asked.

I subsequently took it back about a year later to get the blades sharpened and oiled. They sent it off to the agent and when it came back a week later they had replaced the blades with new ones (I was told this is what they do rather than sharpen them). I think the whole thing only cost me R60 for the courier fees (and my memory's a bit hazy on that).

I will probably never have to buy myself another Wave (the current one is showing no signs of ever dieing - it's that good Smile), but I will buy Leathermans as gifts and recommend them without any hesitation whatsoever.

I moved down to Cape Town about 2 years ago and vesit most of the well known shops. The best service that I always gets is from Chris Willemse cycles. Over and above their good prices they are always friendly , crack a joke and full of fun.

Went to them today and was very supprise with the new shop. There is a pro workshop on the floor, coffe bar and a shop for MTB as well as a shop for racing. Well done CW jnr. Keep it up

I find CROWN CYCLES in landsdowne road to be one of the friendliest and helpful shops around. their prices are very reasonable and their bike mechanics are friendly and helpful.

oh yes ........... it also has to be convenient. I'm in the East so Linden Cycles would be a no go just because I never go there.
