  1. No you can run pretty much any chainset on an 8 speed set up, the main difference is the 8 speed rings are very marginally thicker to run with the wider 8 speed chain, I have a set of XTR 8 speed shifters that I want to set up on a bike - I just need a fairly decent cassette...

Motorex does fork oils in all the above viscosities that one will ever need, its available from any half decent LBS or the guys at KTM also bring it in.
  5. I agree Sram's great till it falls off...
  6. Bearing man group...I dunno where you are but you can look up BMG in the yellow pages...
  7. I've found that rotating the tires on a bike wears them down a bit faster, as the good tyre that came off the front will wear down then you have 2 worn out tyres, rather wear down the rear tyre, buy a new one, and put the new one on the front , then the old one off the front onto the back...
  8. The SID and Reba are essentially the same fork...there are minor wieght saving tricks on the SID but they share the same internals and "seals" ie dust wipers...The new SID shouldn't have any problems handling a heavier rider,
  9. The world cup Reba's (and all Reba's for that matter), Are affected by dirt getting into the dust wipers, if you do a lower end service and clean out all the muck then it'll be buttery smooth again. Don't forget to replace the dust wipers...
  10. With discs you can ride with wobbly wheels...
  11. They can be the 4.1 rims or the 5.2 rims, give Doug Patterson a call...will Pm his no.
  12. You can convert any tyre to tubless, however the mimo's aren't great in durability Fritz Peinaar rode them and cut them when they first came out...
  13. On a full suss you should be using a med to long cage to allow moement of the suspension, As for std or rapid rise a std is meant for use with rapidfire shifters and a rapid rise is meant for use with the "paddle" or dual control levers. Although you can interchange them...
  14. So maybe talking to the right people will get you further, quicker, rather than posting it here...?
  15. Jeez we could get really technical or we could leave it up to the individual, I failed maths the first time so all these 5% figures are starting to confuse me...
  16. Oh look' date=' a pragmatist Or maybe just stop mucking about and buy a Morewood. If you break that you're a special case.[/quote'] Ya a Morewood is not far off 25x25! No offence they are great bikes... had one myself. The GT dog bone link is designed to fail if the suspension is pushed too far, its also designed that the bike won't stop working altogether, I read an interview with Todd Wells when he was with GT and after winning a Norba race he said the dog bone went after the 1st lap and he won the 6 lap race like that...
  17. The whole industry is in turmoil, and instead of helping one another out (wholesaler to retailer to consumer) everyone wants a peice of the pie and not willing to budge on their small share. Everyone seems scared of competition...?
  18. If they are then they are pretty much toast... those wheels' spokes were riveted to the rim under tension and if its cracked then I don't see much hope unfortunately, I've seen it happen on a couple of the four spoke spinergys. Also keep in mind that those wheels went out of production about 8-10 years ago...
  19. Are they the old four spoke carbon jobbies?
  20. The only problem I can forsee is getting a 29 blade to fit on a standard crankset...
  21. I know thats old school thinking, in the old days they used to let the chain "rest" and recover from being streched...as we all know a chain doesn't "stretch" the rollers and pins wear out. The theory is that by running different chains you're effectivly changing the wear patterns on the rings and cassette so one chain doesn't wear the same spot so to say...so when you do change the chain the new one doesn't have to try and fit in where the old one was wearing...
  22. I agree that everyone is free to buy where and what they want, and if the LBS can get it cheaper than wholesale and still mark it up then good for them... lets face it, as mentioned before, it is happening... Nobody slams Cajees or solomons for buying out (for eg) 5mil of stuff from Trek and selling the stuff cheaper than (for eg) the Lab, its because Trek will give them a discount for spending so much... Br
  23. Sometimes there is dirt in there but if they still stick after cleaning then start saving for a new set...the X7 are not great in longevity...
  24. The 970 cranks will accept only the 970 big blade however the middle blade is interchangable with XT or SLX. the 960 cranks one can get middleburn, TA Specialties or Shimano rings...
  25. Is it for the rear hub or suspension, cuz for the suspension you can use the motorex 2000 grease for the rear hub use the same motorex grease just mix in a bit of sewing machine oil (very thin pure oil) to make it a bit sloppy and apply, if its too thick the freewheel won't turn freely... This is what Doug Patterson uses (the DT agent).
