  1. the point of that is to make the bike handle like the bike is riding itself. Ride a fisher and it'll all come to you. I had a fisher hi fi and I still rekin its one of the best handling bikes I've ridden. Specialized have done the same thing with their proprietry forks now cuz I rode a stumpjumper s works and it felt exactly the same... Go to www.fisherbikes.com and the whole genesis2 geometry is explained...
  2. Its also interesting that when Gary Fisher came here 2 years ago I managed to have dinner with him, and he explained that back then he had toyed with the idea of scrapping the 29er range of bikes because in the 10-15years he's put into it there wasn't a noteable growth in the idea. Luckily his marketing department talked him into sticking it out for 2 more years on the condition that in those 2 years if it hadn't taken off he can scrap it...Guess what happened? If you have a look at their website there's hardly any 26ers left...
  3. Any rotating mass acts as a flywheel...thats why the older disc wheels weren't so popular for the amature cyclists as the rotating mass would be a hinderance below a certain speed...
  4. Gary Fisher himself: http://clunkers.net/alan_repack1.jpg WTF? Where is his helmet? This is disgracefull! OK my apologies for the earlier comment, my mistake, I found this video on Gary fishers website explainin the whole thing...check out http://fisherbikes.com/gary# and choose the 29er vid...Listen to his last comment!techguy2009-11-26 07:46:20
  5. The same argument can be put forward to full suspension and lock outs, do you see an MX bike with lockouts? and do you lock out the suspension on your car?
  6. the thing about all this debating is that the very first MTB's were all 29ers... until they came back that the 26er accelerated better for the cross country courses. Of course back then the rim and tyre technology was nowhere near what we have now so it made sense then to make the wheels smaller and in turn lighter...
  7. No it won't be perfect, you can get it to work but it'll rattle in some gears... I remember going through all of this when everyone went from 7 to 8 speed- having the same questions etc, the difference being to 8 speed you had to change the freehub body on the wheels...Trust me that T shirt got used for washing bikes long ago...
  8. The XT's I think have a nicer feel to the braking and are easier to adjust, I hate the adjustment that juicy's have, the caliper can move in too many ways so it just takes more time to set up properly...When old...
  9. If you're going to get a new fork rather buy new, and rather save up and buy a tora or recon, the dart is not better than the suntour fork. Suntour actually make some very nice forks...
  10. You can sell the dcl's (dual control levers) but they are not in high demand so unfortunatley don't expect much.. the Juicy's in my opinion aren't an upgrade, that little Knob is gimmickey cuz once you've set them up you don't have to play with them again...
  11. Wouldn't it be easier to buy a 9sp chain and cassette? You can make it (sort of) work, a lot of carefull adjustment and patience will help...
  12. So then if its missing then somewhere down the line the cap has been pinched for another job, cuz it comes with new cranks...anyway the cap can't be really hard to get hold of cuz they can be ordered from shimano locally, they cost about R80, the only way they are "really hard" to get hold of is if coolheat doesn't have stock, Then my argument becomes the LBS (if they are selling these cranks to RB) should take a cap off a new bike and order some more...
  13. Have you got ergo levers or down tube shifters? if ergo then try getting a spring carrier and new ratchet springs as if the spring carrier is broken it can cause what you are describing...
  14. The cap preloads the bearings then the two pinch bolts clamp the crank to the axle and at the same time pinch the cap so it doesn't fall off, so if its missing it means the cranks weren't installed properly in the first place...
  15. Go 1x9, I have a 36 ring on front, with an 11-34 cassette and I can get over anything...
  16. How much? cuz I saw this a few months back on absalon and sam achultz's bike, I want one for my 1x9... EDIT suppose Ishould scroll up first...techguy2009-11-23 08:19:05
  17. Decals weigh too much!!!
  18. I had one of those Pantani Flite saddles! very cool bike tho...
  19. JB's solution can work as well I have done it myself, but it all depends on the clearences betweeen the cup and frame...
  20. BAD installation... The fix depending on the clearance between frame and cup you may get away with a retaining compound from loctite...
  21. They do work together, the only thing is the new 7900 front shifter has no trim operation like the7800 lever so if you're gonna run the 7900 shifters the only thing you have to get as well is a front derailleur. The 6700 Ultegra has a trim operation so this is not an issue...
  22. Thats old school...they used to do that to save a few grams...
  23. If its an air Judy as I think it is, the missing cap will have no affect on the fork as it is just a valve cover.
  24. there is no such thing as FC M775 cranks...the 775 denotes the disc brake components in the groupset whereas the 770 denotes most of the groupset as well as the V-brake parts. The difference in 760 (old XT) to 770 (new XT) in the cranks is 7grams according to the catalogues I have...
