    Argus 2014

I also got an invite to pre-enter on Thursday between 09:00 - 10:00. Doing my 10th one next year. At exactly 09:01 I got my confirmation e-mail of my successful entry! Problem free and quick entry!
  5. Sorry for the hijack, but would it be possible to give that locksmith's name please? I have a colleague who has lost his Chev Lumina's key and the dealer are also charging an arm and a leg for a replacement.
  6. AFIK they do not replace the batteries, but offer you a new one at a substantially reduced price. My Garmin Edge 305's battery packed up some time ago, and I was offered the Edge 705 bundle for ±R2000 when the retail price for the bundle with the HR and cadence was around R5500. My Edge was a few years old then and I took them up on their offer. Otherwise you can replace it yourself. there are quite a few battery replacements options available on the internet, just Google it. With shipping included you should be able to get it for about R500.
  7. Just contact them directly:http://www.bondiblu.com/index.php?option=com_contact&view=category&catid=12&Itemid=141
  8. I am in sort of a similar situation. Last week Tuesday evening I went to bed with a humongous chest pain. That following morning I woke up at about 4 in the morning, feeling as if someone was physically sitting on my chest. I also had severe chest pains, more than before I went to bed. My wife took me to the Dr, which did an EKG. He saw something of concern, and I was given something to spray under my tongue, pills, also underneath my tongue and a pethedenine injection. I was then referred to the Cardio division of the Vereeniging Medi-Clinic. Upon arrival I was immediately put in a bed, with drips and the works. The Cardio Specialist later did an angiogram, and he saw a vein around my heart which was blocked. Luckily that could be opened with a "balloon", and not needing stents. after I was discharged, I was told that I may not cycle, nor do anything very physical for at least two weeks. this is mainly to give the artery in my leg, where they inserted the "scope" for the angiogram to heal properly. I have to go back next week to be re-assessed, and then the specialist will tell me the way forward in term of cycling. B.T.W, I am turning 50 in two months time, with a severe family history of heart related problems. My farther died of a heart attack when he was 44, my elder brother also died from a heart attack at the age of 33, and my younger brother had by-pass surgery at age 28, and then later died because of his heart! So, I am the oldest living male of my immediate family!

  10. Is that the cycle store at Riverside Boulevard, "next" to Dross? Vanderbijlpark Cycles?
  11. I have had just the opposite (positive) experience from Omnico! I have a Ryder Razor 17 function cycle computer on my MTB that I use for commuting to work and back home. A week or two ago the computer just died on me. I replaced the battery (after all, it was about 3 years old and probably due for replacement!) and it was up and running again in no time. I however lost my user manual, and wasn't very sure about setting it up again. I e-mailed them, and in no time they sent me an electronic version of the manual. But, it seems that the computer itself was faulty, because a day or two after I replaced the battery, it died again. I "fiddled" with the unit and it switches of, and then on again. It has some kind of intermittent connection problem. I e-mailed them again, and in no time my cycle computer was replaced! A big thanks to Tim Carver for his assitance! Realy excellent customer service!
  12. Has anyone received anything yet? I have not yet received my race number, nor start time. I tried calling the number on the website, and also e-mailed them. No answer and no replies to my e-mails. There is no information on which timing-chip that they will make use off as well. Sounds very un-organised! Maybe I should rather have entered the Meals on Wheels race? Cheaper and closer.

  14. No, unfortunately not. He did not do any seeding events and is starting at about 10:00. I started at 09:00 last year, but worked hard to improve my seeding and I am starting in group T at 07:15 this year. I am hoping for a 03:30 time this year. He has also said that he will be doing the "funride" thing this year, the same that I did with my first Argus.
  15. Me and my eldest son will be flying down to CT with Kulula. We will be residing at the Cape Town lodge, which is about 1.5 km away from the start. It will be his first Argus, and my 9th one, but only completed 8 so far. Two years ago I had to pull out because of a severe case of "gyppo guts' after about 60km. My son is really looking forward to this trip, seeing it will also be his first time in Cape Town. Safe traveling to all!
  16. Does anyone have any experience with this brand of cycling clothes? I was given a set (bib-shorts and top) as a "good luck for the Argus!" gift by a colleague who got it for me when he visited an engineering company in Enschede in the Netherlands. Apparently they do cycling gear for a lot of the European pro teams. I tried it on, and I must say, the padding on the shorts really feels like you can spend a lot of time in the saddle with it!
  17. In October 2004, regulation 207(2) of the National Road Traffic Regulation became effective after being passed three years earlier. The regulation orders the compulsory wearing of a protective helmet that is properly fastened and fitted while riding a bicycle or being carried as a passenger.

  20. I will be in T as well! Upgraded from MM with a start time of 09:00 last year. Took a lot of effort to get here.
  21. I was in group MM last year which started at 09:00 . I worked hard to improve on my seeding and it seems to have paid off. This year I am in group T, starting at 07:15! This is a 1:45 minutes improvement.
  22. Hi Boatsie, Unfortunately we as cyclists have to make do with the lesser of the two evils! I also stay in Sasolburg and I also ride on the R59 to Parys. I do that route because after about 5km out, the road have a very broad yellow line shoulder. Just yesterday morning there were about 30 cyclists out on that piece of road. The best time is at 05:00 in the morning. If you go to the bridge over the N1 and back, you have a nice +/- 45km ride. Going to Parys, having a coffee at the Wimpy and then back is about 84km. The road is very smooth with almost no potholes, except in Parys itself, and one place on the way back where it looks like tha tar has melted because of an accident. Do not fool yourself and thaink that the route to Parys and back is fast and flat! Here is the route profile. I used to cycle out on the Wonderfontein road up to Stonehaven, and then on the Stokkiesdraai road. If you turn at Oscars cafe, you would have covered approximately 40km from Sasolburg, to Loch Val Hotel and back is 50km. I do not cycle that route often because the road is not very broad, which does not give you room to swerve when needed. There is no shoulder at all, and full off potholes. But, you will have do make that decision yourself. I have done both, and recently have come to prefer the R59 route. The other alternative is that you can also go out on the R57 toward Heilbron, and then after about 12km turn left on the R549 towards the Vaal dam. Once on this road, you also have a nice broad shoulder and the road is not too bad. To the dam wall and back to Sasolburg is about 75km. I would however not reccomend this during the week, because there really are a lot of taxis coming from Heilbron and the Chris Hani squater camp going towards Sasol and Vanderbijlpark. Safe cycling! Jaco
