  1. I lived in George between '82 and '13 and between George and Mosselbay, I would opt for George for all the reasons already mentioned. Just beware cycling alone as there have been incidents in the past, especially around the dam and also around Witfontein. But no need to fixate on George or Mosselbay as specific locations, with so many options available between them as well. Deciding where to stay there is about so much more than just where to ride. Will commute to schools / work etc. be a factor? If so, schools in George are better than Mosselbay. Congratulations on the decision to move down south, away from the big smoke. I'm sure no matter where you end up, you're going to love it.
  2. Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
  3. My wife's boet used to fish for great whites at Dias beach in Mosselbay. He would be standing about 100 meters from all the vaalies swimming in the waves and then he'd pull in a 1.5 - 2m GW. Then he'd laugh himself silly at all the people going batshot crazy and flee for the dunes.
  4. I ALWAYS look where I am placing my foot before I stop. You never know what's lying under the bush where you stop.
  5. Molslang will take a chunk of flesh for a souvenir. Don't think because it isn't venomous therefor it must be harmless.
  6. Last December I was visiting the folks on their farm. My dad and I were sitting outside on a chair beneath the olive tree watching my then 4 y.o. daughter play on the lawn beside the tree. A while later we get called in for dinner. As we sit down the dog starts a low, deep growl. Dad and I go look and that's when I see the boomslang curled up in between the tree stumps where my daughter had just been playing.
  7. Just to put it on record, this is just a clip I got sent, and neither I nor my family are related. The puffy pics are at my boet's house. the cobra is a random fool f'ing around who will soon find out.
  8. WhatsApp Video 2023-11-06 at 20.41.17_fedfca80.mp4 Apparently there is a cobra explosion in the Cape this year according to snake catchers. Heard this 2nd hand from my boet, who had two very large puffy's come for a visit last week.
  9. Early Christmas. From me, to me.
  10. I flipped a car off one of those low bridges in 2010. I drove through in the morning and it was a spectacular drive. When I came back at night the road had been graded. I came around a bend and lost the back end and slid over the side of the bridge into the river. Luckily only my ego was hurt. Lost the car though. If you do drive, be safe. Those corners are deceptively sharp.
  11. I know this is a family oriented forum, but I'm sure admin will forgive me. liewe bliksim!!!
  12. He just reaped the harvest he has been meticulously and mercilessly sowing. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
  13. Nah, its waaaay overpriced.
  14. I'm not so sure. Most petty criminals won't put up a fight when you catch them. They rely on your inaction to allow them to escape. When you catch them and deal with them as above they have no idea how to defend themselves. Then within a flash they whip out the victim card. The criminal who fights intended violence from the onset of the crime and this is why it's better to be ready to fight back. Also, when you do catch a criminal you don't know if they're armed or not, so play safe and either neutralise the threat or get away as fast as possible yourself. Just don't hang around without a plan. Know how you will respond when you find yourself needing to. And be ready.
  15. Another classic example of someone f'ing around and finding out. What I am having trouble with is why people keep on shirking from standing with the victim. The thief jumped over a fence and committed a crime, got caught, was lucky not to be impaled on the fence, and then got ten colours of kr@p moered out of him. I don't see the problem?
  16. One has to wonder how fleeing from custody is a thing. Especially if the perpetrator is a known flight risk candidate.
  17. Weight schmeight. I tip the scales around 125kg myself on any given Sunday and I ride my Specialized Camber as if it's a proper Enduro machine on trails it probably wasn't designed for. The only advice I would give someone of our size is to upgrade the wheels. On my previous stock wheels, I was busting spokes and cracking rims, but since I upgraded to a set of Rapidé alu 36mm inner width rims I haven't needed to even true the wheels and the spokes are still in perfect order. Those wheels truly are bombproof. So in short, if you are merely wanting to get into cycling for fitness sake, any bike will do.
  18. No, between Uniondale and Oudtshoorn.
  19. crossing a river on a bridge you cannot see is a foolish thing to do. I am glad these cyclists got rescued, but please, don't try it. My parents live on a farm that has a low bridge crossing over the Kammanassie river. There have been a couple of incidents of people trying to cross the river in SUV and lately even a tractor. Of the 8 people involved in these incidents, only 1 survivor in each attempt managed to live to tell the tale. If you cannot see what you are going to riding across, then stop and find an alternative route.
  20. I love me a good Erdinger.
  21. The places I ride Strava won't recognize a KOM for. Something about it being too dangerous or some such and it then hides the leaders list. I had a KOM at Meerendal a couple of years ago that I was chuffed about, but it got ripped from me by a e-biker. I still have a standing silver podium on a rather long drag along the R27 which I managed one morning before Covid, and since then I don't ride there anymore because it has become a risky venture with all the homeless vagrants hanging around the vicinity. I had a local legend at Jonkershoek that stood for a good couple of months until I was forced to not go there every weekend because of diesel costing so much.
  22. There has been no damage this side. Pedal with ease.
  23. I fully get your point, and I agree. I was replying more to the kind folks who feel that you aren't entitled to your opinion, but in the same breath make a rather large fuss about how your being triggered is triggering them. I suppose my replies are not helping either. So in a strange kind of way I am painting myself with my own brush. Maybe I just long for the Bikehub of ages past where people weren't so sensitive to words.
  24. I find it hilarious when the folks with some of the highest post-count in a thread bemoan people participating in a thread.
