  1. This is very confusing. Where does the power reading come from? If it is from the trainer how can the average speed be higher for lower power? Surely the claim for the rotor rings would be more efficient transfer from your legs to the crank (and thus trainer). So if the idea works you would have higher power measured by the fluid trainer for the same effort, not less.
  2. Thanks Tankman, can't be any more clear than that.
  3. Sorry I'm new to this. If I did races which are listed as seeding races for the Argus do I need a PPA membership for those races to influence my start time?
  4. Also interested in opinions on this topic. With all that climbing what gearing does one need to save the legs for the run? I think I might need a compact crank?
  5. OK, this post pushed me over the edge, just completed the entry.
  6. Get the XT wheels, you will not be disappointed. I have had no problems and they ride like a dream.
  7. I understand the point of going through distributors. Who is going to do the marketing for Shimano in South Africa if the distributor doesn't do it? To an extend the direct importers are piggy backing on the marketing and support provided by the distributor. At the same time is ridiculous for anybody to take a swipe at CWC. If the distributors weren't taking us to the cleaners there would have been no need for CWC to import directly. The distributors might be singing the right tune now but if it wasn't for CWC this would never have happened and for that I will continue to support him (that and his great service). And thanks to buycycling as well for offering a quality service, had a positive experience buying from them as well and if I need an Easton fork for example I would gladly support them.
  8. Thanks for the info. Shock will go the service centre in Cape Town.
  9. I need to have my Fox RP2 shock serviced / repaired as it's no longer holding air and I'm sure there is something wrong with the platform damping as I now have peddle bob which wasn't apparent when the bike was new (Anthem X). Any recommendation on the best place in Port Elizabeth to have my shock serviced or do they all use the same service agent in any case? My biggest requirement is that the shock is fully repaired as I live in a small town 200km from the city. I don't want to be without my shock for 2 weeks and then find that it's still not working properly when I get it back. Are the internals of the shock such that anybody will notice all the faults or is it a case of courier it to yellowsaddle for example to be 100% sure it gets fixed. Thanks for you advice.
  10. I've seen enough. Time for me to order a magiclight.
  11. Would be interesting to know how many people run the heavier UST tyres and how many people get away running the normal versions without issues.
  12. Excellent wheels. Have had no problems at all.
  13. Bos how is that Tundra working for you, is jy al harder as hy?
  14. Ok to clarify then, I use a Bel-Air and I recommend it. Comfy for 3h+ rides.
  15. Pressure was 2.2 (I'm about 72kg). I will just fix up and try again tomorrow, when my years of trouble free tubeless riding will start
  16. Thanks for the advice guys. So would this be an accurate procedure: When you hear the whistle of death noise keep on riding for say 100m, if it doesn't stop rather plug the tyre before you lose all the sealant?
  17. Ok, got the new XT wheels yesterday, fitted Fast Trak 2Bliss tyres and added 2 cups of Stans to the tyres. Inflated perfectly and lost no pressure over night. Went riding this morning and got a 3mm long narrow cut from glass and the Stans showered me, the bike and the trail but could not seal this cut at all. Now do I superglue this cut or do I put a patch on the inside of the tyre?
  18. Yes they do say it's a race seat and goes with my bike so I really wanted to like it. If I'm out riding a technical loop the Tundra is really good, you can move very freely on the bike and I have no discomfort. Anything more than 90 minutes though and I suffer. I do understand that if my sit bones are not a match for the Tundra it's a poor judge for the saddle so if anybody wants to buy a Tundra and try you are welcome
  19. I went through this same exercise. You can buy a Gobi etc, those are very expensive saddles because they are lightweight. The good options in my opinion are the Bel-Air and something like a WTB Rocket Vee. They have the right combination of padding, cost and weight.
  20. Good question, I understand the theory of sitting with the sitbones on top of the saddle but for me it doesn't work. I have given it a fair go but my anthem's Fizik Tundra is going to gather dust while I use a good old Bel Air.
  21. Thanks for the info. From my understanding non tubeless tyres are fine with conversion kits. Is it a good idea to use non tubeless tyres with UST rims and sealant? Normal Crossmarks on a UST rim for example? Does a UST tyre have a special bead shape or is the sidewall just stronger with additional rubber layers to make the tyre airtight?
  22. Yes right tool for the right job The emergency prepaid phone in my saddle bag is not a smart phone and I also have a hardtail. Just that the modern dual suspension is comfortable and fast so it's the right tool for almost any job and if someone were in the market now that would be my advice.
  23. Test drive a dual suspension. Think there is a nice second hand Mongoose Canaan floating around the hub, something like that would be a very good buy. It was better to stick to a simple phone while smartphones were rubbish. Now phones and the way we communicate have evolved and it's better to have a smartphone. Same thing with dual suspension, they are ready now so either buy a dual or keep what you've got.
  24. Classy option not to name and shame. Also have some terrible stories about PE shops. Personally nobody touches my bike but me, can't have a failure after travelling 500km to a race or something. Can say Philemon at Cycle Pro has done the initial setup on my previous GT and my new Anthem and I couldn't find anything wrong when checking myself before first use.
  25. The most important thing is the feel of the bike which will be the same x2 or x3. The deore crank and brakes are not bad at all. Just don't buy x3 and start upgrading to XT, it will cost allot more that way. As for Anthem vs Trance most mountain bike racing terrain in SA will be classified as cross country which is great for the Anthem which works better the faster you go. Even if you do more trail riding you can always fit higher riser bars and a shorter stem to change the geometry while keeping the lower weight and at under 60kg durability is not an issue. Only if you are spending all your time in forest trails get the Trance. Better still try both and tell me I made the right choice
