  1. That is basically the same spec as a CR1 Pro except for the wheels which are Ksyrium Elites on the Pro. The 2012 list price for that is R26 500 so let's say R25 000 after discount. At the end of last year I paid R19 000 for a 2011 model as they were clearing stock which I considered a steal. So you need to apply the '2nd hand factor' and compensate for the wheels. Considering this I wouldn't go for much more than R15 000 if I were you and then adjust as per the responses you get.
  2. Relax and have a good day now TZmtb. I have witnessed these attacks many times but never got involved. Why I felt I deserved the amusement today I'm not sure but I enjoyed it
  3. There you go: "Always had issues with mud and my shimano, and to tune them properly you need a degree in voodoo, embrace the darkside and sell your kidney to a shammon. SRAM you can tune 100% while on a trail in 5 minutes if need be. Shimano you can do on trail in about 1 hour and if your lucky you will be able to use at least most of your gears. " And no I don't need to ride SRAM to say that my XT is working fine. Did a stage race in Knysna last year where the LBS were desperately bringing in brake pads because of the mud and I had 27 gears for 3 days no problem.
  4. You are missing the point. He is disputing the fact that Shimano is useless as you claim. He makes no claim as to it being better than SRAM. I have never used SRAM either but my XT has also been running problem free in muddy stage races etc. And the two times I have needed to adjust it a quick twist of the barrel adjuster did the trick in 1 minute.
  5. Wait for the itch to go away, you have a very nice bike there.
  6. I'm guilty over the run into Durban, I tend to loose interest in a big group. So you take a turn at the front then when you pull over 20 people with no intention to pull wont let you back in because they read it's better to ride at the front of the group. Had fun working in the group till we got to the N2 but from then on I just relaxed.
  7. Yes those were my people. Did 3:09:26 on a Scott CR1 so definitely not one of the front runners in O1.
  8. My avg speed today was the same as for the Argus. So add 4km and you're ready. Don't spoil your first Argus by worrying about times, just enjoy the vibe.
  9. Being from out of town I really enjoyed the race. Everything around the start area was so relaxed compared to other races (or maybe it's just Durban). Also it was a massive privilege to have road closure considering there wasn't exactly millions of us. The first half of the course was tough. When we started the long climb into Pinetown the guys at the front of the group took of in an imitation bunch sprint. Seeing the hill carry on in the distance I assumed they were crazy or over excited. Turns out they were just fast so I fell back and joined a nice group that lasted pretty much to the end. There are definitely many easier races than this, OFM, Herald etc but this one has allot of potential.
  10. Could not agree more.
  11. If it's the wrong size it will never become comfortable. You might need something wider and then I suggest the Specialized Phenom.
  12. Ok, need to be in Durban for work next week so I just entered both MTB and road. Looking forward to my first KZN rides.
  13. 35k Dual Suss would be all the bike you need, not an 'ok' machine.
  14. Damn, I was close to certain you were joking. No in that case if you buy a frame and wheels to rebuild the Saturn components over you will end up spending ~R5000. A brand new Axis A40 with the same level of components is R6 500 so don't consider it.
  15. Something like this (this is one fitted to a lefty hub but the idea is the same). http://buy.traxxas.com/images/products/5973R.jpg
  16. There are some high volume tyres that should work ok. They might be a bit wide so just check your frame for clearance.
  17. I am not a hub super user but I have read enough to observe this trend as well and I think the OP has a valid concern which I support.
  18. I had that on my bucket list but you have a very good point. Changed it to hike the otter again.
  19. Just because bio-degradable sachets aren't the final cure for human selfishness doesn't mean the idea doesn't have merit.
  20. "At first glance, the 2012 SID 29 and Reba 29 look the same. That's because both forks share the same chassis, in the form of lower legs, upper tubes and crown. The main external differences are the decals and the crown-steerer, which is carbon fibre on the SID World Cup and alloy elsewhere. “Instead of having two dedicated separate chassis, we decided to design one single chassis and allow the internals and some of the details to differentiate the two product lines,” Jeremiah Boobar, RockShox’s cross-country and trail product manager, told BikeRadar. It's these internal differences that ensure the SID (it stands for Superlight Integrated Design) remains the pinnacle of RockShox’s cross-country line." Stiffness should be the same then?
  21. At the start of my group at the Argus on Sunday the announcer asked everybody nicely not to litter their GU containers along the route. First guy I see taking his shot flips it over his shoulder onto the road. Some people shouldn't be allowed outside ..
  22. You will need to include the gradient into your equation as well.
  23. Ok, I was in specialized kit on a Scott. Let's see tomorrow who got away, I also started towards the back.
  24. 3:18:37 so we must have been close to each other. No idea where we finished relative to the group.
  25. I will make sure I go just over 3 hours in case they start handing that kit out for free.
