1. Interesting stuff. So I read Benita's website, has anybody ever used the powercranks she advocates? It forces your hamstrings to pull on the up stroke.
2. From the press release: "As this event would have served as joint selection race for the TSA LD Team, the TSA selectors will, apart from the 70.3 Ironman results, also consider the results of Midmar Ultra and Buffelspoort Ultra Triathlon." There are a handful of people who care about the TSA LD Team as supposed to hundreds of people who just do it as a form of enjoyment. So please B-Active if you guys can unite and fight this it would be much appreciated.
3. Very good question. I was doing 70.3 for fun. I'm not trying to qualify for the Olympics so why do I need to pay for this TSA accreditation?
4.
Ok, when I enter a MTB race and plan to pack my tent the heavens open

Can those of you who know the route well comment on what effect the rain will have on the route. Is the ground mostly compacted or will it be slow progress through mud?

5. 6:54 and very happy You guys are all too fast

I agree it's difficult to draw the line. Definitely everybody should be able to fix a flat but few people are riding around with or know how to use a chain breaker.

Fantastic event once again. There is one thing I don't understand though. I had a friend with chain problems on the bike and the roaming support vehicle said if they help her she will be disqualified. - what are the tech support vehicles then actually allowed to do? - I don't think a girl needs to be able to repair a chain to prove she's a triathlete. Surely this is missing the point.
8. For best results just fit some mud tyres. They are skinny with low volume and cut through the mud to find grip underneath. Last year at the Seriously Strong 200 in Knysna I fitted a set of Bontrager Mud X tires and I had much better traction and grip.

Come on if you can push a bit harder you can get the avg speed in up to 80km/h
10. I think for the next CWC newsletter just find this invoice and if there was something else on there discount that by 40% as well
11. I am not alone I'm also a mountain biker that got a 2011 CR1 Pro and was wondering about a 11-28 ratio. Then I searched the hub and somebody had a thread about needing a 25 at the back for Suikerbosrand instead of a 23. I just stared at the screen and decided to toughen up
12. I just bought a CR1 pro on Friday, the 2011 models are really good value now, R20 000 - your cash discount for a 7.3kg bike. But then I wanted a comfort bike as I'm not chasing a podium ot anything. Wish I could tell you how it rides but my knee needs a bit of rest first.
13. There is the man himself moments after his rage, nice and friendly. Come on people most riders throw a tantrum for a ghost shift or a bit of chain suck, give the man a break. http://gardenrouteevents.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=140&Itemid=162
14. I also did that race. Some of us are riding for fun (because we are slow) and some are competitors like team Full Dynamix. While the rest of us better be smiling and enjoying just riding I don't mind someone at the top of his game blowing his top in the heat of the moment. He had a super tough day out there. It is certainly not something to judge someone by.
15. Look at Zinio. Now that I discovered Zinio on the iPad a whole world of magazines opened up for me. You can use it from the PC as well I see.
16. As someone who has spent allot of money on saddles let me through in my 2 cents. Yes all these Fizik saddles that everybody recommends as 'the default choice', Arione and Gobi are 135mm saddles. The planet-x saddle is more of a 143mm saddle (from measuring mine) so if you want a fizik you need the Antares instead of the Arione. The Specialized default saddles like the Riva are all 143mm saddles which is a better starting point for most people I think. I wish Giant for example would stop shipping new bikes with 128mm Tundra saddles, have they not seen what South African people look like? I now have a planet x on my road bike and a Specialized Phenom Comp on the mountain bike and it's the best I managed thusfar.
17. Very nice tyres. The problem with non UST tyres is that you can't run as low a pressure as you would like without the risk of the tyre burping air past the bead. These tyres have UST beads so it seats properly on a UST rim. The sidewalls are not as thick as UST tyres though to save weight. So if you are doing terrain with sharp rocks you chances of a sidewall cut are bigger than with a Maxxis LUST tyre. If you are not riding karoo rocks they make perfect sense and the Captain has good grip, perfect for a front tyre.
18. It can definitely happen. I was racing in Addo two years ago with a SRAM 9 speed link and it came undone on a particularly rough downhill section. As the link was nowhere to be seen I started pushing, a few minutes later another rider stopped to ask what was wrong and gave me a spare one. I'm still forever thankful for that rider and never ride without spare links.
19. I'll be there in V as well, trying to hang around the front of the group and do some work. I'll watch out for the orange wife beater shirt but keep my distance
20. The only bad publicity for CWC is posts like this one. Everybody understands they will make a mistake but coming on here and flaming people like some CWC groupy firing squad does them no good. CWC gives awesome service and treats people on the hub with respect, they don't need these kind of replies.
21. Any info would be great, I am also considering these two helmets as well as the Giro Atmos.
22. I don't know enough about brand building so don't read too much into my statement. If it's flawed ignore it
23. Well what kind of premium the official distributor can justify above the CWC price for the trouble of building the brand is a subjective amount. Plus they can't pick and choose when to import stock as they need to have it always. Just saying relative to the other brands I find it fair. Same question re your LBS? How much will you pay extra for parts there knowing the extra overheads they have considering the fact that you would like them to exist next time you need a tube? I appreciate and support CWC but also appreciate the roll some others are playing in the industry and support them too.
24. After reading this thread I went for some helmet shopping yesterday in Port Elizabeth. When looking at cost the key point for me is internationally comparable prices. If I look at the Bell and Giro prices out there I am being nailed for being a South African which I don't like. ASG was true to their mission promised in this topic and the local price I got offered on a Sterling helmet was R1590 which is fair if the RRP is $225. So my money will be going to Rudy Project as part of my effort to vote with my wallet. So thank you Chris for fighting for international comparable prices for us and good on ASG on responding to the challenge while still building their brands.
25. Don't be blinded by what is listed on the website. They have a relationship with suppliers and can get things so before you import just because they only have the 12-25 and not the 11-25 cassette you need rather contact them. If the supplier has the part they can get it for you.
