  2. Pffff. All this shaming has made me buckle and place an order. Can't wait to rock my ice cream cone socks.
  3. Wow - those are great times CBlake! Congrats. I would be over the moon with that result. How much training did you put in? Your time is exactly what I aiming for. My mantras are: Pain is weakness leaving the body. If it does not challenge you, it does not change you. (for those really hard training sessions) Suck it up, buttercup.
  4. The plan is to get another solid 12 months training in. Already 3 months in, so I think by the time IM rolls around next year, I will have a very good foundation. I really don't want to walk any part of the marathon, so hopefully I can manage to become some kind of half decent runner. I want to train for a 12.5 hour finish. Well, 12.5 hours if I can control my weight. I am seriously battling to keep hunger at bay. Already finished my lunch by 10am. So, talking about pushing through the hardest parts, what mantras do you guys have to help you get through to the end?
  5. Well, not awkward at all. Roll on EL and PE! Woot. Now to try figure out how I am going to get my head around a 42km run... Your race reports have totally energized me.
  6. Heal up quickly. Glad you are going to be ok though. It's a sad state of affairs when those that are here to protect us refuse to do so.
  7. Hard question to answer. Depends on your friend's base fitness. I would say around 10 hours a week to build a good base, peaking around 15 hours a week I think.
  8. I also suspect so. At least that means IM should return to being held in April in 2019.
  9. Yeah, I agree that it's a non-issue. But let the guy vent. I was taken aback by the big'ish jump forward. I am surprised the organisers of the IM event pushed it forward by so much. Everyone will be pushing hard in December now. I am quite certain it is going to impact EL signups. Oh well. Guess I will have to skip EL next year.
  10. Why attack those that are complaining though? They are just expressing regret at not being able to partake in both. Don't see how that deserved insults.
  11. Done or trained for any Ironman event? Argus is so big because it is way more accessible. It's a training ride for those doing the full IM. #justsaying.
  12. I also know of other athletes that like to do both events as well.
  13. I am thinking of booking accommodation now... Hubby is going to be riveted with yet another expense.
  14. The East London 70.3 is now also too close to Ironman PE, so also a little confused by the big jump in the date.
  15. A quick question for the experienced runners here. Think 3 months is enough time to get training in for a half marathon? Not looking to compete, but complete as I am a pretty poor runner and don't have much of a running base. The goal is to complete a Half Ironman distance without any injuries. Can comfortably complete a 5km in 35mins at present.
  16. Check out the Ironman PE 2017 thread. There are some nice write ups there already.
  17. Well done everyone! Hoping to be joining you guys next year on the red carpet. Nice race report ICM - thanks for taking the time to write it up.
  18. https://www.facebook.com/ReplayVideoAnalysis/ Jana runs some open water workshops every now and then at Homestead Dam. It's a little bit far to travel, but getting time in the open water is valuable.
  19. A lot of you guys are probably heading down tomorrow, so good luck guys! Will be travelling on Sunday, but hoping to catch the last few hours of the event. Will be rooting for all the Hubbers! You guys rock.
  20. Isn't it risky to try new drinks like that? I would be concerned that it upsets my stomach. I generally don't have a bad stomach, but this would probably wreck a race. I guess you are experienced, so should be fine. I don't need any food / fuel for my training yet (longest session has been 3 hours), but will be training with what I plan on racing on when my hours start ramping up. Can someone please take a photo of their bike with food on it and post it here. I have no idea what to do here and would love some ideas.
  21. That's awesome. Lots of time to get the issues sorted, and train up slowly. I had quite a bad issue with my femoral nerve. It would get inflamed, and then I couldn't lift my leg or bend the knee. I do a lot of nerve flossing, and very specific stretches after running, and it came right. Swimming also seemed to help it recover. Hopefully you manage to come right. Thanks - love my girl too. Hubs wasn't too happy when I asked if she could share the bed.
  22. Oh no Dullscalpel Signed up for any events?
  23. Pushing as far as you did sounds like a feat in itself. Well done.
