  1. We are on the completely opposite ends of the spectrum. I am keen to do full IM distances, but need to get my mental space right. Well, I hope this last IM is your best. (Where is that beer / cheers emoji thing?!) Oh no. 5 day course? Hope it does not mess your stomach up... Get better soon.
  2. Not even doing half IM distances?
  3. Happy birthday, Stretch! It only really counts if you have entered a new age group though.
  4. I am amazed at the distances some people in this thread do. And some of those speeds. Can't wait to get my 5km down to 30 minutes. I was quite chuffed with my 2 x 5km runs and 1 x 7km run per week. Nothing like being brought back down to earth...
  5. Don't think it's worth it tbh. Why not get some aero bars for your road bike, get it fit properly and take it from there? Not sure how the community looks at clip on bars, but the cost for such short events does not seem worth it. Also, I wouldn't be caught dead in an aero helmet. Sorry to those that do wear them, they just crack me up.
  6. That's the one! Depending on how I feel after the 70.3 and what mental space I am in, full marathon training will commence right after that.
  7. Running is the bane of my life. Yet I have chosen to train for half Ironman. My goal is to run my first half marathon at a pace of 6:40 per KM. Target is June. Lots of work to be done to up speed and distance. Think that is a sufficiently scary target for someone who has never done any sort of running.
  8. This is why the MiWay events seem like good value for money to me. I was looking at that and thought it looked a little rough.
  9. Now I have FOMO, and I am not even anywhere close to being ready...
  10. Was out yesterday and met a swim coach. She was telling me how she had a client who actually cut off his wetsuit because he couldn't get it off in T1 (it was new) because the zipper was different to what he was used to. I cannot confirm the validity of that story, but it's a valuable lesson imo. Practice your transitions and train in the gear you going to use.
  11. I was reading a race report on Facebook written by someone who recently completed the New Zealand IM, and just had to share this excerpt with you lot: "In the absence of war, Ironman races provide some of the most extraordinary scenes of human suffering."
  12. Thanks for the feedback guys. This thread was the deciding factor to push me to sign with Cyclesure.
  13. Literally tears to my eyes. Condolences and thoughts to all Barry's friends and family. The world seems to have lost someone very special, and the world seems a little less joyous.
  14. Aye - learning a ton about myself. It's also a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Some days I am like "I can do this - nothing will stop me". Other days I wonder wtf I am doing and hope someone would smack me over the head to give me a wake up call.
  15. Cradle Moon have bikes for hire I think. https://www.facebook.com/cradlemoonlodge/
  16. Pulled off the Ironman South Africa Facebook page.
  17. I saw the title and my heart just sank. I am so glad to hear you are ok! Thanks for sharing your story and hope you heal up quickly.
  18. I am a very big fan of following structured training plans that are fitted to your current fitness levels. Each workout is effort, and I always go into a workout with a goal, and knowing what I want to achieve. Results are seen through consistency, and if you are following different plans, you are not going to get consistency. Early on, you will see a lot of results, but they will slow down quickly. As for the fatigue, I still battle with it every now and then. In the beginning of my training plan, and now recently at the start of a new training block (intensity has ramped up). It takes a week or so for me to adjust, and then I feel great. I do eat really well and clean however. I drink very sparingly and avoid processed foods/refined carbs (I still fail sometimes though - those long swim sessions are killer).

When money has exchanged hands, he could spare 5 minutes to drop a message. At the end of the day, he is unreliable, and should be avoided as it seems like you get your goods when he feels like it. Too risky.
  20. Sadly, no... Hahaha. Long story. Lets say I bit off more than I can chew. I am sure your lovely wife will fill you in. Next weekend though.
  21. Yeah - I am not sure I want to do a full either. After reading through all the issues everyone is having, and the time it takes to train, I don't know if it is worth it for me. The 42km run scares me to no end. I will probably eat my words after June's 70.3, so lets see.
  22. That's not exactly what I meant, but I do agree with you. When I join a group, I will say hi and ask if I can tag along. If I pass I will still greet. But I am generally friendly like that, so, each to his own I guess.
