  1. Why is it easier for me to execute a tight left turn on a single track? I find it much more difficult to go right. I thought it was because I am right handed and my right leg (outside leg on the turn) is dominant and therefore I have more control, but today I spoke to a left handed cycling buddy and he has the same problem. I surf left foot forward and uncleat left first.
  2. Vetseun, I see you like this comment, a 3:20 weighing a 100 kgs is fairly easy, I did it about 2 years ago, but going 3:15 and faster will require a serious commitment to training and weight management
  3. I also found the loading procedure slower than previous years, two reasons: Everybody had to enter in the middle and then go to their shutes, either right or left and there was not enough space to wait and Not enough entrance gates at both the first and second checkpoints
  4. Is he taking a selfie?
  5. Well I took my bike here, it then carried me around the Peninsula

    Cricket......

Hi Lexx, blocking out a day to try and save a test, is test cricket in its purest form.

    IM Zurich

You apply at the consulate of the country where you will be the longest, no internal border posts, a visum issued by a Schengen country allows you to go to all the other member states during the time that it is valid. No border posts into Switzerland either, but as you have noticed they have their own currency. I have noticed that the various countries are becoming very strict. The Spanish now require proof of a booking at a hotel/guest house etc for every single night of your intended stay in their country. You also have to visit the consulate or their appointed agents in person, they take fingerprints and photos and if you fit a certain profile they do a few more tests.

    100 miler

I did the 100 miles a few years ago. Was completely and hopelessly undertrained. I was OK up to about 120 km, but then suffered and cramped and limped my way home. So the lesson learnt: If you are an older and well built ) cyclist, make sure that you do the training before the race.

Cellar, on 17 February 2014 - 03:15 , said: No, we'll question why he chose to bowl first. 98/4 is the answer
  10. And another Chappies piccie taken this morning, took out my old Trek for a training ride for the forthcoming Funride World Champs along the same route.
  11. I also second the Koeberg to Philedelphia and back or the Koeberg Occultdale trip. On the R304 I ride on the gravel shoulder. There is a rough gravel shoulder, Skubarra! I don't like the R 302, the Klipheuwel rd, too boring, same goes for Bottelary Rd also mind numbing. Last Sunday on the way back from Stellenbosch (massive hangover, only got to bed at 04h00) I searched for the foot paths next to Bottelary, found a few, but not nearly enough and had to go past Kuilsriver and up La Belle on the tar. I often do Spes Bona in the morning, from my house the round trip is close to 30 km, I then include a hill or two in Aurora if I feel particularly chirpy. This morning I did Robinson St in Aurora, then through D'Urbanvale to Koeberg, then Spes Bona out and back and then Odendaal as an encore. Was about 34 km. Your other option is to include Malanshoogte and Vissershok or Tiekiedraai, although Vissershok I only do early on a Sat or Sun when the traffic is light. A round trip: Everdal-Klipheuwel-Spes Bona-Koeberg-Malanshoogte-Tiekiedraai is about 50km and includes two decent inclines.
  12. Did a solo ride past Eenzaamheid
  13. I took the full suspension. Had fun. It is really smooth and flowing and non technical (and dare I say easy?).I would suggest Oak valley is the ideal place for a rookie to be introduced to single track, the bridges over the fences being the only obstacles of note. The bike wash and showers sets a standard for others to follow.
  14. I am going to do Oak Valley tomorrow, which bike would you recommend for a heavy, semi fit, low skilled cyclist? Hardtail 29' er Scott or Giant Anthem X2 26'er
  15. There was a delightful short movie as part of the Banff Mountain Festival 2013. Little short legged Jack Russel type also went along down a single track, fantastic camera shots of the cyclist clearing a jump, with the dog following his boss, stretching those short little legs to clear the obstacles.
  16. Did Hooggekraal this morning, it was the first time that I did the tricky section on the northern slope, had to dismount a few times, but it was fun.
  17. I thought so as well, but now believe they are simply too heavy and offers too much rolling resistance. Just don't ask me what I suggest, I am going to buy RR snake skins shortly, as I liked the way the ordinary Rocket Rons rolled, but they, sidewalls in particular, were not tough enough to convert to tubeless.
  18. Memnon I've had the same experience with my three week old Scale 940. The Rocket Rons that come standard on the bike is not suited to run tubeless. I must admit they rolled very smoothly on a straight tarred road, but as soon as I went off road the problems started. I replaced the rear tyre after the third or fourth ride. I was only holiday and my options was limited and I settled for the Maxis Crossmarks. Bomb proof but there must be something bettter out there. I will pop in at the shop where I bought the bike for some opinions, but mainly to give them my opinion on the standard RR's.
  19. Impressive. About 4 years ago we (an 8 hour team, so not quite in your league) dropped our one team mate before the N 2. He never trained with us, so we didn't know how bad he really was. He turned back to Swellendam at the end of the N2 stretch. Haven't seen him since that day.
  20. There is much more to cycling than goodie bags and cool drinks at the finish of a race.
  21. Thanks for all the movie shots. In Durbanville is a DVD store where you will find all the classics, they stock the hits, the French and Italian stuff, the art house and many others.Fellini, Bergman, Orson Welles, Tarentino, Kieslowski, Coen Bros, they are all there. Haven't seen a copy of Debbie Does Dallas there, though. 1001 movies to see before you die, they're in Cambridge Street.
  22. On the news since early this morning: AUSTIN, Texas: A federal judge in California is siding with Lance Armstrong and the publishers of his autobiographies, rejecting claims in a lawsuit that lies about not using performance-enhancing drugs amounted to fraud and false advertising. In a ruling issued Tuesday, the judge sided with lawyers for Armstrong that the books are free speech protected by the First Amendment. A group of readers who bought Armstrong’s “It’s Not About The Bike” and “Every Second Counts” sued in Sacramento federal court seeking more than $5 million. They said they were duped into believing the books were inspirational true accounts and should have been labeled fiction.
  23. Finally a bit of sunshine in the Cape. I slipped away from work for a Spes Bona Quickie:
  24. Great pics, Mint Sauce and Kranswurm. Allways difficult to take good pictures there. Cederberg and the Cracks are special places to visit.
