That is true, but it can make the difference between getting up the hill and not getting up the hill. My compact made the Argus a real pleasure. I just spun up the hills in my 34/26, and I wasn't all that fit.

You actually are meant to have a 1mm shim when using a 10 speed Shimano cassette. In most cases it wont be an issue not using one but the large sprocket on a 10 speed cassette is 1mm closer to the spokes than on a 9 speed cassette. There is a chance that your derailleur will touch the spokes without one.
I'm with you on "Counting Cars". I much prefer "Chasing Classic Cars". The old guy doesn't have an ego and makes the show about the cars, and not himself. Very un-American of him.
Maybe you should just go into a hearing and tell your story. About how you're from the "souf" and if you don't have big guns you wont look kiff in your tapout shirt. I'm sure they'll understand.
You certainly can tell the difference between cheap brakes and expensive brakes. Cheap brakes have a spongy feel and just don't stop as well. There isn't as noticeable difference(if any) between Ultegra and Dura Ace, but those Tektro made cheapo brakes are pathetic.
His point is very valid and relevant. Its time to stop all this emotional fanboy BS and start asking the hard hitting questions based on logic and reasoning. Professional cyclists today do not deserve the benefit of the doubt and are going to have to do far more than lip service to prove their innocence.
