  1. Yes For the OP to ride these trails he would have to buy the 6.month membership. I walk Majik Forest. Badly rutted, and a few nasty rocky spots. It is not ideal for new riders at the moment, especially not solo riders. Tygerberg trails are much safer. Off course I have no clue as to the OP's skill level .... up to him to check out the routes with due care
  2. Just for the record Die omie het nie meer n mooi Hilux nie ... sê maar net
  3. Had a sort of similar day in the car today. 50m from home a branded company vehicle came out from a side street and stopped its nose well into the road when it finally bothered to look if there might be other traffic. I turned the steering and curved around the now stationary vehicle. Pretty much a "normality" for the morning ride. 1km later there was the obligatory small hatch idling along at 35km/h ..... no safe way of getting past this mobile road block. Jip, jaaa, uhmm ... "normality" for the morning commute. Then the vehicle from the front drifting over the solid white line, with the head down and concentrating om the small screen .... glad he got done texting in time to swerve back as I was starting to contemplate climbing the pavement to avoid a head-on collision. thank goodness my morning commute is less than 5km, so not enough time for these individuals to crawl under my skin ..... I do often spare a thought for the bicycles that share these narrow roads with such totally absent minded individuals ..... (When I do commute by bicycle I use a different route, and use a bit of grass and some pavement to miss the worst of these drivers) Morning admin done it was back behind the steering wheel and off to Stellenbosch on the N1. We all know this game of dodgems with the boy-racers cutting past while you try to safely negotiate the trucks and bakkies ..... okay, another sort of normality. Driving past the winefarms where we park walk/run is always a morale booster. Actually slowed down to look if Rodney was busy marking out the route for Saturday's run. After the first meeting it was a rush to get from central Stellenbosch to Blackheath .... during peak traffic .... Eventually made it to Dorp Street, with a number of harsh stops to avoid more absent minded drivers. Thinking of this thread, I was remarkably calm at some truly dangerous driving. And so we get to the Dorp street and Strand Road intersection. As I am about to cross the intersection this driver next to me tries to nudge me out the way as he also wants to cross the intersection .... Hey, wow, slow down .... even a very slight blip of the hooter to remind him there is only one lane crossing. I notice his shocked expression and then he darts to the right ..... As I am contemplating the "normality" of this persons actions I glance in the mirror to realize it is ME who went straight in the turning lane !! ME being the careful driver, me commenting on the other "chops" missed the road markings (easy to do in bumper to bumper traffic ... jip, ja, let's dig in that bag of excuses), it was me being the chop in that moment, however unintentionally. At least it was very nice seeing a few cyclists outside Stellenbosch. Even better seeing the relative safety of the wide shoulder. Jaaaa boet ..... be safe out there, in your car or on your bike. Enjoy the journey.
  4. I was under the impression that "Le Jeune" was the "house brand" for Peter Alan in the 80's and 90's. Much like some others now import frames, slap on their stickers and add some components to sell "their bikes" in SA.
  5. It seems to be a bit of pot-luck .... My 2019 Kickr Core was sold last month with zero issues. Then again, low milage and hardly any power from these old knees to push the unit to its limits. Friends went the Tacx route. She does a LOT of Ironnman training on it. He does TransBaviaans training on it, doing many seriously long sessions on it. That unit WORKED !!! Granted, clean room, and air-conditioned environment. Still impressed with its use. They sold it in good nick when they upgrading to the latest model. From some threads one might get the impression these units fail when you look at it sideways ... most certainly not the case.
  6. Two negatives makes a positive ... 🤣
  7. @Me rida my bicycle
  8. Chris our thoughts with you and their family in this terrible time.
  9. Some of the photos showed the bus was at the broken lines. Just one of so many factors accounted for. "We" can debate so so many factors: - turning right, with oncoming traffic - was the oncoming traffic visible - was the oncoming traffic exceeding the speed limit ( @Zebra can confirm the correct speed limit for this section) - Only a dash-cam will show the tun-and-stop-and-impact to begin to understand who could have done what to escape injury. Such dash cam could provide some understanding as to some of the previous thoughts as well ... NONE of this matters now !! A loved one is never coming home. That driver will have legal issues for a long while still ... never mind the nightmares This whole past week for cycling just SUCKS !! And this as the season is changing and we all try to get active again and ready for the next season of rides and races ..... please be safe out there Hubbers, be it in your vehicle or on two wheels.
  10. @BuffsVintageBikes
  11. Thank you EDIT - Big thanks to the couple that brought the "gent" back to face the music ... As a totally aside matter .... MOST of Bottelary (just past the golf course) falls under STELLENBOSCH. First instincts would be to call Bellville/Brackenfell police, but it is actually Stellenbosch that "should respond" ..... (probably best to report to both)
  12. It it this Bottelary accident I am trying to get more detail on.
  13. News papers are reporting various cycling accidents "over this weekend". Not sure when the accident happened on Bottelary. Had it not been for lingering flu symptoms I would have been out on Bottelary myself .... Let's see if others have more info on the Bottelary accident.
  14. Been a hectic weekend for cyclists .... to put it mildly. 😢 Any news on the group that got hit on Bottelary road ? Any details on where this happened ?
  15. Some good news ...
  16. You are sadly correct .... they wont act. BUT .... they need to know their in-action is NOT acceptable.
  17. Well said .... 😡😡
  18. Sien julle op die lang roete 👍
  19. Well said. Uhmmm ... ja-nee .... For the sub-3 100km riders a real road bike will always be the go to bike. for those that like something a bit more than a paved, swept and bermed groomed trail ... it quickly gets to the point where a MTB has its place. Gravel bike .... 1x or 2x ? A decent 2x gravel bike will give road bikes a damn good go for its money !! BUT, over a 100km race the rider is going to feel the difference ... still more than up to the job for most group rides. Going of the hard packed surfaces .... I am surprised at just how good a gravel bike feels on the short cuts I take across a field and some sandy bits. Even on gravel it feels surprisingly good. BUT, I have not done any long sections on corrugated gravel, nor do I have any desire for that ..... Actually, it was bought as my "dikwiel pad fiets" .... given the poor condition of our roads, especially the sides where we cycles, the gravel bike is VERY nice !!! The "one bike for all" .... that simply does not exist. VERY good alternative for the not so serious rider ? Sure, it will tick most of the boxes most of the time. Glad I dont have to chose just one .....
  20. They most certainly do provide a service. They even have happy clients that have done repeat business with them. Few years ago a friend bought his first MTB. It was a second hand purchase, private seller ... "recently serviced" ... "we are emigrating" .... Sure, they were emigrating. Sure, the bike was at a bike shop ... who did the bare minimum to gloss up a lemon. Sadly my friend fell for the lure of the glimming bike with new tyres ..... I had to strip and rebuild that bike top to bottom !! Every single bearing had to be replaced, tyre were not tubeless ready, very clean chain stretched to heck and gone ... whole new drive train. Punch line .... that cured him from buying a secondhand bike privately. MANY Hubbers have enough experience that this is not a factor to them. But his next hardtail was bought from BikeMarket, purely because of the perceived backup of dealing with a "shop". Decent price, decent bike. He had a lots of good miles on it, and no issues until he upgraded to a full suspension. ONE call ... BikeMarket traded the hardtail in on full suss for him ... again, happy customer, many happy miles and no issues with the bike. They offer a service. They have a market, else they would have closed shop long ago. Does this make their low ball offers any nicer .... heck no .... thats just the secondhand market at work (or at least one segment of that market) ..... reply, ignore ... but move on, life's too short
  21. Tempting to "take one for the temu" .... sorry for the team. Bit more than double the money gets you a VERY nice set from Evobikes !! Shimano XT BR-M8100 Disc brake set. Couple of options on the price brackets in between as well .... As an 8100 user I wont save money for any of the cheaper options, not when looking at the current Evobikes special price.
  22. Rooibos MTB by TIP TRANS | Entry Ninja – the best outdoor, fitness and sporting event entries in your area. Very few events now publish Strava routes. At best it is distributed to entered riders shortly before the event.
  23. Speaking for myself .... I was the one wanting Maritz on the next size as soon as he could ride it properly. LOTS of kids ride bikes they have outgrown ..... A few months with the saddle maxed out can save a lot of cash if he can then jump a size up.
  24. In terms of the WATCH .... they have certainly included everything we can wish for ... by today's list of functions. Frankly, even mid level watches now provide much more info than most users can ever use fully. The next level of progress lies with the personalised training .... all behind the Connect+ pay wall ...
  25. No ... please dont. Our experience with this: 16" was less than 1 year 20" lasted all of 13 months We tried the 26-9er Titan (26" tyres with an XS frame) .... they cant reach far enough to safely turn the bars. 24" for about 14 or 15 months then the 26-9er ..... for much longer than we expected. He got stuck this height for about 18 months .... then grew something like 1cm per month .... 1,75m before his 14th birthday. So he skipped through the 26" medium frame. And is about to outgrow the 29" medium ..... As much as we like to skip a size .... always check if they can actually turn the bars to safely handle twisty trails. EDIT - Or just keep the smaller bike until they can actually operate the larger size.
