  1. Do ask Santam again - via a broker. I am insured with Santam, FULL cover when doing events from Argus to the 3-day Trans-Augrabies, as an AMATEUR taking part in a timed event. Seriously frustrating when they give out conflicting information.
  2. That sounds LEKKA !!! Friends have done a Croatia island hopping holiday, think it was 2022. Renting bikes on each island. EPIC !!! Following their dayly photos was an absolute blast. They are going again in a few weeks time.
  3. With Santam there is a distinction between: - an amateur taking part in an event (not professional) - A "pro rider" taking part in an event. My broker explained to me the difference is when the rider is a paid rider, or has "professional sponsors" (not just a back-a-buddy for a bucket list event). Not sure if this helps in your case. There are a couple of insurance brokers that are active on the other insurance threads
  4. Ek lees nog in Afrikaans .... so re-reading is probably more me than your writing style. 😉
  5. I had to re-read your post a few times .... You DO make a very valid point - We DONT know his full medical history. As much as exercise IS a good thing. The correct sequence of exercise may well prevent lots of issues along the way. My own route : - Dietitian (lost most weight this way) - SLOW start to exercise (with the approval of my doc) - Once the exercise volume and intensity picked up, so did the issues .... - Biokineticist .... been a long road, lots of detours, but well worth it ... Most certainly is beneficial to include your doc and a bio in this journey.
  6. There are TWO routes entering Stellenbosch from the NOTH : 1. From the N1 or Bottelary the route via Kayamandy is the most used route. Sadly also thee hot-spot. 2. From Klapmuts side, R44, enters via Cloetesville. Typically much safer, though there have been the odd incident. From Bottelary you can go straight via Kromme Rhee to join up to the R44. This is the route I typically use. Not much further, but the Kromme Rhee section is narrow with zero shoulder .... I avoid this section during peak hours.
  7. Not sure any shops offer this service ... At least everything you need is on this thread. @Zebra can assist on where you can source a battery for the 520
  8. Speak to Paul at Alpine Sports Coaching https://alpinesportscoaching.com/ He had two teams at this year's Epic. He is busy with a new team that will do their first Epic in 2026. Already got them to podium age Category at Sani2C.
  9. My alu rims stood up well enough on a couple of stage races. Heck, it even managed the Ezelfontein routes the week before the Epic did the same trails ... and again the next year. Sure, there may be benefits. I know that @Me rida my bicycle swears by his carbon rims, due the "feel". But, is it "needed" ?
  10. Surely he also NEEDS wireless gears .... NOT serious

The moderators will be around shortly to provide answers .... similar to what was already answered on other threads.
  12. WOW !! Somebody should explain to MyWhoosh that users should not have to be IT experts to use their platform .... 😬
  13. Few years back there were some seriously nice stats about the riders and the gear, and much more. (think it was 2018 or 2019) Majority of the field bought a new bike in the 12 months leading up to the Epic. EDIT - Then again, two people we know who have done multiple Epics only replace their bikes as needed, not because of any race entry. Sure, they DO make sure it is maintained and serviced regularly. Would actually be more interesting to see the correlation between new bike purchases and first Epic entries ......
  14. I got tired of this continual software upgrades. Not nice when the morning exercise starts with .... loading .... loading ... updating .... Sold the trainer setup and got a spinning bike. For a warm-up session this is PERFECT. Pretty sure I can watch Netflix and keep turning the pedals for longer rides if our weather gets bad enough ....
  15. In my case it said the graphic card drivers must be upgraded .... just kept going in a loop ....
  16. Best be clear in your adds .... can already see the hype of adventure bikes with waxed chains ....
  17. Youngster you say .... How about a semi retired gent that traverse the curtain every day ..... 👍
  18. This is very much organised crime. There are a couple Stellenbosch WA groups related to cycling, hot spots and stolen bikes. Every so often the cops raid a house (each time a different one) with 10 to 30 stolen bikes. Some stolen in Stellenbosch, many traced back to these muggings. It really leaves a bitter taste that we support Sauser's project, and then get mugged by "his neighbours". The criminals have eroded any goodwill the average cyclist might have had for the rest of this area .... sad reality.
  19. Only two options that actually work. 1. Bike on a roof rack. Did a 3 000km trip, including lots of dirt roads with the bike on the roof rack, the bike and drive train was clean. 1,5km of dusty farm road on the platform rack and it was covered in fine powder dust. 2. Transport it inside the vehicle.
  20. Yes, and no .... The pin length of a 9 speed link is potentially longer (wider) than that of a 10 speed. Thus it should pass through and fit. BUT .... that extra width may cause some rubbing on the cassette .... okay to get you home, but replace as soon as possible. Having an 11 speed link is of zero use when fixing a 10 speed chain .... the pins are simply too short.
  21. First 20km since 2019 on an amish bike ... GRATEFUL
  22. Yes, for the older racks. New Thule racks apparently have wider spacing .... might be best to check the spacing width as it differs between brands and year of manufacture
  23. Rather get the 3-bike rack, especially if you are transporting modern MTB's with its very wide frame construction.
  24. Corrected ...
  25. Trek ... 😋 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-lights/c/E312/&ved=2ahUKEwiOudCsjP6NAxUDQUEAHYaTM3wQFnoECCAQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3EH3sUL-u63KmTy6OaJpiq Jy gaan moet scroll sussa ...
