  1. Trek has some nice specials on Bontrager lights.
  2. There is another thread about SRAM chains breaking. Certainly not isolated events anymore. Apparently the outerlinks shows cracks, with low km on it. As I said on that thread - is this a case of counterfeit products ? (their was issues with shimano that was traced to counterfeit chains) Would hate to think this is the new normal for SRAM .... That, or the Hub has some riders that should contact the pro-peleton .....
  3. Looks LEKKA ! And on this side it is raining most days. CANT complain though, been blessed with good, okay decent, weather over the weekends, with rain during the week.
  4. On a lighter note .... Training for Argus I got a "low battery" message on the Garmin. NO ... not the ebike battery. Apparently the cadence sensor battery was on its way. BUT .... this message pops up at the START of the ride. Some 3 to 5 hours later when I got home this was a long distant past thought .... And so it the one message after the other was "not attended" to .... With two other bikes, with working cadence sensors, enough rides were done without the message ..... And so it came to pass. Sunday I barely left home and the cadence sensor does not show any reading on the edge. I even stop and restart the Edge .... Seems you can only ignore these messages for so long ...... Jip, ja, yes, it is working nicely with the new fresh battery. Actually very strange to do Helshoogte without the cadence sensor .... I really use the cadence when doing these climbs.
  5. On very dusty rides the Squirt ebike lube lasts longer than Smoove. Probably just anecdotal .... but if it works it works 👍
  6. Nice long solo ride .... time to contemplate world peace and safe cycling routes .... even time to think about cross training and which helps which ... Nothing like saddle time to train the saddle to be gentle to your postereur ... Forget cross training .... just get BIKE HUB SOCKS for a performance boost 😋 Or ....... just maybe cross training does help to improve cycling
  7. Gotta love the Cape. Autmn VIEWS ... Wind doing its bit to ramp up the training effect .... on the way out AND on the way back Hi @BMCfan .... thanks for the carrot .... new PB for that stretch
  8. Couple of Hubbers that are insurance brokers that replied on the other insurance threads .... a quick search should get you some people that you can reach out to, if you dont get enough leads on your question
  9. We can only wonder about the golden handshakes that led to this situation .... and the "losses" involved if the system was opened to more brands ..... Competition commission ???
  10. NOTHING about Vitality makes sense .... when you look at it from a HEALTH perspective. Very sad actually, as it STARTED as a means and a measure to get people active, fit and healthy. Now it is just another "corporate rewards" program ... you need to embrace the Discovery corporate group of products if you want to get real rewards. IF this was about health, they could have and probably would have resolved these compatability issues long ago. But it is about the Discovery group of companies and their preferred group of partner companies ..... most certainly NOT about "your health" ....

  12. Not sure if it is the Park Runs or the gym sessions .... but my cycling has improved significantly over the last year ! There's your motivation thought for the day (please ignore the stupidly low base I started from)
  13. Time for full gloves ... Magical feeling seeing the wheels kicking dew up into the beam of the bikes light .... too dark to see anything outside of the front lights spot
  14. Very interesting statement. A friend that has done a couple of Ironman events, Comrades etc. says it slightly differently. She says: "Cycling does not help for running, but running helps for cycling". Something about the way running activates more of the leg muscles. Of course this is very relative, because at this level most people do cross training to ensure all muscle groups are up for the game.
  15. What you describe is called a rigid bike. Rook is one of the few that still sell rigid bikes with flat bars. Rook One being a single speed bike Rook Shift sounds like what you are looking for. MTB's went the suspension fork route in the early 90's. By 1996 Giant only had the ATX 830 as a rigid option. Loved mine 👍 Maybe the Rook is what you want. Please avoid the cheap Makro stuff .... Trek was selling decent entry level MTB bikes on special a few months back for around R14k. Basic, but significantly better quality than Makro. Giant and Scott also had good specials ... Titan Racing has some good value for money options. WAY out of the box .... if you want a rigid MTB, then you probably are not into trail riding. A "gravel bike" is well worth considering ... Best wishes with the search
  16. Robert friends use the TAXC Neo. The unit is used by both. One does a lot of her Ironman training indoors. The gent does another few hundred km per month on the trainer. After many years of use they upgraded to the latest Neo a few months back, and sold the old one in perfect working condition to a friend. Certainly a decent quality product. And you can use it during loadshedding from what I hear. PS - I had the Kickr Core (no issues), just impressed with the Neo.
  17. By the same token ..... somebody should tell the 90% weekenders that their Epic is a RACE ....
  18. RESPECT for hanging in there !! Having paid the school fees, we trust you will be much better prepared next year.
  19. Subscribed ...
  20. Hiehie .... quickly becomes a rabit hole, or is that a maze, when you try to "progress to a healthy body" .... At least my bio has a nice smile while torturing me ... 🤣
  21. A friend with a life time in cycling shares your opinion. He has done road, track, MTB for many decades. Even won his category in the Trans Baviaans. He just laughs when we talk of bike fitters. At mid 60's he does one off 100km ride every 4 to 6 weeks, and a couple of 30 to 50km rides per week. He just did a 6 week training block to prepare for the 36one. Testimony of what is possible. And here is the rub .... @DieselnDust as an engineer you often experience the difference between "good" and other engineers ..... Sure your wife has experiences with some "good" doctors and a some others .... it is the reality of any industry. The bike fitter industry is no different. Many (possibly most) are good at taking measurements and setting up a bike to a formula ..... and this works well enough for those riders with no residual medical/injury issues. The likes of Irma does what I need from a bike fitter. Starting with a medical/injury history. Then checking mobility, core strength, flexibility .... Only then does the "bike fit' / adjustments" start. And when the client has specific issues, the setup is most certainly off the "standard charts" and tweaked to that individual. She also explains that as issues are addressed, your body adapts small setup tweaks may be needed. LUCKY are those that are injury free and for whom the "dimension chart" type setup works. Now to take this one step further ...... I have done about 10 000km on my "Argus bike" over the last few years. Setup fine, no issues. End of last year I suddenly start having issues .... Seems like the Selle Italia saddly had sagged out. Bit of a search, but I find the exact same saddle. Bike setup measured up with a laser level ... yea yea ... So I carry over the setup 100% to the new saddle. NOPE !! I cant cycle 5km !! Two other saddles later I went back to Irma .... we swopped out a number of saddles, checked and re-checked the setup, just cant get comfortable on the bike. Irma steps back, head tilted to the side .... and then she gets a frown ..... "When last did we check your sit-bones?" Let me tell you .... in that moment that question did not make any sense ..... but let's check it again. Turns out my sit-bones allignment was out by more than 10mm ! Basically one sit-bone at a time could sit correctly on the saddle .... no wonder it was so painful. Here is the shocker .... this is not an uncommon issue. She referred me to a physio, who confirmed my left QL was one tight spasm ..... took about 3 physio sessions to remedy my allignment. Few more bio sessions to get to the root cause. Moral of the story ..... IF you have some history with sports injuries and are on a road of recovery. Expect your body to change as you cycle/exercise more. These changes may impact how you "feel" on the bike. TOP TIP - STAY IN SHAPE. Use it or loose it !!!!! The road to recovery sucks .....
  22. Entries are open for those wanting to do the Gun Run
