  1. I have a Ravemen CR1000 front light for my road bike and I am impressed with it, except for the strap mount.

I would like to mount it upside down with a GoPro adapter under my Garmin Edge mount. This will look much neater and hopefully more sturdy than the strap mount.

Apparently it is possible to rotate the lens 180 degrees in order to keep the T-shaped light pattern correctly oriented when mounting the light upside down. I can see a little notch on the lens bezel, but I don’t see how I can use it to rotate the lens. Do I need a special tool or is there a hack out there?

Neville, we need to meet up for a ride once you are down here.

We are camping at the Van Zylsrus Caravan Park at Kuilsriver from Monday to Thursday, so a short visit. Margaret and I hope to squeeze a few rides in the mornings, nothing too hectic though.

  3. We are doing a road trip from Durban to Cape Town with our caravan, and taking our road bikes with so that we can do some cycling while we are in Cape Town.

We will be leaving on Saturday morning, and camping overnight at River Destiny Campsite, on the banks of the Orange River, in the Gariep Dam area.

After a full day driving, it will be nice to get on our bikes and stretch the legs a bit, and explore the area at the same time.

Any suggestions on routes to follow, bearing in mind we have road bikes?

It was preceded with a consistent “re-connection” of my sensors.

Now that you mention that, I recall that it was reconnecting to my cadence sensor a few times. I cannot remember whether it was before or after the restart though.

  5. Yesterday I rode in the Amashova (lots of wind and rain), using my new Garmin Edge 530 to record my race.

Along the way, without any warning, the Garmin decided to shut down and then restarted. It got to the screen where it prompts you to save the ride, but I simply pressed the ride button at the bottom right of the Garmin, and it continued recording as though nothing happened, and nothing was lost except for the minute it took to restart.

I am on the latest firmware.

    Anyone else had this experience?

  6. My 6th Tour. I started in 3A at 7.04am, based on my CTCT 2020 time of 3hr 43min, but I certainly did not deserve to be in such an early batch, as my fitness level had dropped quite a bit since then, and I had put on a few extra kg's! I aimed for a modest 4hr 30min, and achieved 4hr 19min, so I was happy in the circumstances.

The weather conditions were perfect, and the crowd support was fantastic, in spite of the pandemic.

Guys, I will be staying at the protea hotel at the waterfront. Any chilled rides taking place on Saturday the 9th from close to the? Would be keen to meet some of you.

Every year, on the morning before the race, there are hundreds of cyclists doing a chilled ride from Granger Bay to the the top of Suikerbossie and back. Our club, East Coast Cycling, meets at the Wimpy parking lot in Granger Bay and wheels roll at 7am. See you there!

  8. Apparently Govt have not gazetted the new 500 limit on sporting events (still 250) and now only a month to go so they can’t take a chance as they have 430 entries already.

They are making a formal announcement tomorrow.
