  1. Yeah, our system is a 5kw, so thought these should be fine for him.
  2. I know they used flat but thick cables on ours, 2 only just fit in a 25mm pipe. From my install I think it was this:
  3. Wait, dont all Southern Suburb people Park in the safety and familiarity of the Virgin Active, then ride through and afterwards pop in Bootlegger?
  4. Very nice setup!! Great feeling to be off the grid
  5. We still in that phase! Our tumble dryer has never been used so much!
  6. I am going to look at getting a fan under the unit to start, as we had the garage door open and did not really help.
  7. Does anyone just turn the tumble dryer on in the afternoon when you have excess solar, just for fun? Its like a nice white noise maker. #SolarProblems
  8. I am just concerned about water proofness, I replaced the entire garage roof in December to remove the leaks. Think I could put it on the other side of garage and still have an effect?
  9. I am concerned with the temp of the inverter as there are no external fans, just passive cooling fins and its getting warm, like 72 degrees warm. Any suggestions for some fans beneath the inverter to push air over the Alu fins? Thinking 3 PC fans that come on when gets above 60 degrees.
  10. Probably not as its probably not theirs. The silver polo that ran be over to try and end my life was taken into police station for a day then returned as the person who tried to run me over borrowed his friends car to do his crimes. I asked, but if it was a gun he borrowed, would you give it back? Never they said... My Cannondale that was found at cash crusaders went to police station and then never seen again, that was held as evidence in my case.
  11. My wife is loving the solar, when batteries are full and we have excess solar, she throws the towels in the tumble dryer guilt free without dimming the lights in the neighborhood. I think I also saw her turning on panel heaters...
  12. Saw an article where they state its around a 50-65% drop in winter. My trees in the garden may get a pruning. Hoping as our consumption is lower should hopefully get by in winter, will be interesting.
  13. Agreed, if they gave away the 2 way meters, thats 200l of diesel, how long does that last running those big generators for pumps?
  14. Went down the rabbit hole of Sunsynk videos on weekend, If you great friends with your neighbour your could just get an inverter and battery set up and then when they would feedback to grid a second sunsynk could fill its standalone battery as if it was pulling power from mains or a generator, (Not through a charge controller). For pure back up purpose we could probably charge another 10Kw/h in the afternoon no probs.
  15. Yikes, remind myself to never post close up pictures of my bike on the hub. That old girl has more chips than a MacD's
  16. Listened to the Mayor get interviewed about it, was asked if they will subsidize the meter so the city could provide relief from load shedding. He said they would not as why would they subsidize those that can afford a solar setup. The host was like, ummm so that those who cannot afford a solar setup could benefit from their solar install? Still did not click, think Geordin is great and sing his praises but on this one where the city could spend R10m-R20m on meters and then be able to drop down a level of load shedding, surely the greater benefit to economy would be greater than the R20m? The City thought process is, if can afford the install, whats another R12k?
  17. About the same as the SL7 that is still sitting in the classifieds.
  18. I am trying to work out at what price per unit feeding back in would actually be worth it if have to spend R6k no a new 2 water meter.
  19. Almost identical We installed that solar geyser with a collector tank in December to just reduce the total load on the system so can eek it out a little longer. Still have the tenants geyser which we have put on a wifi switch that works like a charm.
  20. Those are 2 of the new 5.3kwh batteries, so a total of 10,6kw/h with 5Kw/h inverter and 3.68kw/h of panels. The best part is walking past your pre paid meter seeing it on the same amount of units as the night before...
  21. Install complete on Friday and away we go! The relief of not having to look at that Eskom se push app is amazing. Took the advice from here and got it setup 100% like wanted. First day of full use was a good test as Cape Town had rain and cloud cover all day, we still got batteries to 100%, heated the extra geyser and cooked on the stove. We only got down to 30% battery after that (10.6kwh 100%). Yesterday first full day in the sun, carrying on as normal was perfect. After dinner etc this morning we were on 55%. So looking good for winter
  22. Going to show them I want it like dis one.
  23. Wishing a speedy recovery to the rider. I was gifted a Varia for my birthday from a riding buddy and its really useful approaching off ramps or circles when its nice to know if there is a car barreling down on you.
  24. Yes, my installer told me about the pass through function when connected to grid. What is your energy meter?
