  1. Not sure about Pta, but Midvaal Licensing Department is the bomb! Got there at 8h00, was out by 8h45. They said they would phone when the license arrived, they did. 10 minutes to pick it up. The extra travelling time and petrol to Meyerton is so worth it
  2. Anything else? I have been given a bit of a budget
  3. OK, after struggling for weeks, wracking my brain, trying to think of a suitable christmas present for my fiancee to buy me that IS NOT cycling related, I give up! I am obviously addicted to, obsessed with cycling! So, having accepted the inevitable, I have decided that I would like a few tools to be able to work on my fleet. The question is, at a minimum, what basic tools should I have in my toolbox? Or, is there a basic toolkit that I can purchase that has the basics, and add on the tools specific to the bikes/groupsets at a later date? Where do I find such a thing in Gauteng?
  4. Wynflon for the roadbike and a Motorex dry lube for mtb.
  5. Hacksaw blades can rip the carbon fibres out of place and compromise the material. Rather use a tile cutting "blade" for the hacksaw. Looks like a very thin round bar and grinds away the carbon. That way, if you cut straight, you don't have to sand the ends smooth either.
  6. 4 1 x Gios steel frame with Shimano 7 speed for the trainer (and a spare wheel for the occasional road outing) 1 x Giant TCR carbon road bike with Campy Chorus 10 speed 1 x GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc hardtail 1 x Raleigh RDS 9.0 with New XT My fiancee calls it variously my fleet or my harem, depending on her mood and level of sarcasm
  7. Cool, thanks. Still has its original paintjob. I'll check it out tonight. Ok, so checked the bike out last night. No identifying stickers saying chromoly or any such. I did put a magnet to it and it stuck, so its definitely not aluminium.
  8. Cool, thanks. Still has its original paintjob. I'll check it out tonight.
  9. How do you tell if its steel? I have an ancient Gios, blue with chromed lugs and a pinned head tube badge. Not sure if its steel, but it sure is heavy. I'm looking for a 7 speed cluster for it (See 7 speed cluster thread).
  10. Bank owns the townhouse and the small car. Everything else I pay in cash. Makes for difficult decisions all the time. Spend on the wedding or buy a little something for myself?
  11. Passed him with about 20km to go. Gave him my last bar to keep him going. His official time: 05:41:10. Thats faster than 657 riders on normal bikes.
  12. What bike?
  13. The 60000km service interval that VW recommends for the air filter doesn't help turbo life either
  14. Bontrager has a fairly decent tubeless kit out as well. Works out at about R300 for two wheels. Also the rim strips are hardier than the Stans and you don't have to take them out toput a tube in when you puncture.
  15. Planning on a 3 hour but starting in R so don't know if thats a help or a hindrance? Flippa2008-10-23 07:29:12

    Shaving

Now there is a mental image I just did not want. I can't help it that some of us have more testosterone flowing through our veins than others.

    Shaving

I shave to just above the tan line from the shorts. I clip the rest or else it looks like I'm wearing shorts when I'm naked
  18. Sounds good. The last one was good fun.
  19. I think Bruce's comments are fair, in general. The official distributor has gone to a lot of trouble and cost to secure the distribution of that specific product including the carrying of sufficient spare parts etc. However, and this is merely my personal experience, where does the consumer go if the official distributor cannot supply? I have been trying extremely hard to purchase a groupset through the official distributor (via my LBS) since approximately July of this year. To date, I have been told that the distributor does not have stock of certain of the components. I can have my groupset, but not with the components I want.
  20. Count me in.
  21. Picked this thread up quite late. What type of ride is it? Technical, non-technical?
  22. Oops. Repeated.Flippa2008-08-14 01:56:01
  23. Rad, go away! We have already discussed this.
  24. I'm in the process of upgrading my groupset to 2008 XT. I have a choice, take Dual Control and get the upgrade now or wait until there is stock in the country for RapidFire (who knows how long?). Recommendations please.
