  1. The last one I went on was epic. I remember Wonder Woman faceplanting on one of the descents and coming up looking like a frosted donut. I'll defintely be there.
  2. You guys should really stop misleading the tourists and rename it Table Hill as it doesn't meet the requirements for being a mountain (i.e. being 1500m or higher). Anyway, mini-hijack off I'm keen for a mine dump ride. 27th is good.
  3. Yip. People can also still enter today as well. Registration starts from 14h30.
  4. Cool. Although....... I'm man enough to run through the streets of Parktown wearing nothing but a Speedo and a pair of running shoes.... But..... I'm not sure if I'm going to be asking a group of guys wearing said Speedos which one of them is "Dangle"
  5. Gangster's Paradise.
  6. I'm there with a couple of friends. Just look out for the slightly overweight, hirsute wit ou with a cycling tan. Awesome mental image, wasn't it?
  7. Hi guys, Following on the topic of Movember, here is another charitable event to highlight the scourge of certain types of cancer in men. It's the daREDevil Run and takes place on 4 November. Essentially it's a 5km run through afternoon traffic in red speedos. Men only but, like Movember, them lady folk are welcome to turn up for support and giggles. Check it out on www.moreballs.co.za.
  8. I've been running a 9 speed chain for about 9 months now on the ss, no problems. For me, the secret is ss specific chainring and cog. On the subject of chain tension, I would love a frame with Paragon Machine Works sliding dropouts. Problem is that there are just a few bike out there fitted with them. Ragley TD1, Vassago Black Series. Would trade my wife in for one of those bikes.
  9. They're open already. www.entrytime.com
  10. Great race! I found some technical skills I never knew I had on my rigid, especially on the descents. Will definitely be back for next year!
  11. If you see a couple of guys struggling on singlespeeds, its the_nerd and myself. Just give us a pat on the back and a push up the hill. Thanking you in advance
  12. The_nerd and I are in for 1 October at Avianto. I see that there is a pairs category. Both riders riding at the same time. Should be good fun.
  13. Go for it! I'm running two different setups on two different sets of wheels and both are perfect. One set of wheels are American Classics tubeless wheels with a Kenda Karma UST and Vredestein Black Panther UST tyres. Was able to seal without sealant. My other wheels are Shimano XT hubs with DT Swiss 4.1d rims, converted with the CafeLatex tape and valves, running non tubeless Schwalbe Rocket Rons. Took about a week's worth of riding to get them to stay inflated, but now they're perfect.
  14. Got my HoldFast ones at Cajees Alberton (formerly Camaro Crossing). They're pretty pricey for what you are getting, about R300 each (including the V-thingy for the rear wheel). If you have some rudimentary welding skills, I'm sure you could make some.
  15. Silverstar MTB 20km on the ss for me.
  16. American Classics with Vredestein Black Panther. Sealed without slime, no problem. Stayed inflated for a week.
  17. I've just started running to improve my overall fitness and am currently using the New Balance MT101. What a fantastic shoe! I did a lot of research as I always used to have issues with shoes with a substantial heel. No matter whether I bought shoes randomly or went for a fitting at an expert, after a couple of running sessions I would give up because of impending injury. With the MT101, I am up to 6km, 3 times a week, no problems. They certainly seem to suit my feet and style of running.
  18. Slightly off topic, but related to the issue of pricing in our market. I was speaking to a local supplier of cycling parts and apparently our market is smaller than that of Mauritius And that is why there is very little incentive for suppliers to provide the distributors with competitive pricing. And this is why the consumer goes online. Apparently this is also the case within the PC hardware industry. South Africa's market isalmost insignificant when compared to other markets and that is why there is no focus on improving it. Saddening, isn't it?
  19. It's only convenient if you live in the northern suburbs. Otherwise its a 20 minute schlep with the possibility of getting stuck in traffic and R50 for a mediocre ride. I guess what I am saying, is that if I have to drive somewhere to ride my bike, I want a good experience. I don't think MTN Bike Park qualifies as that.
  20. R1600 for MTN Bike Park is very steep, especially when the quality of trail isn't that high. And you can't ride when you want to. Considering Rietvlei as an alternative, R25 for a day pass, R150 for a 10 visit card and around R900 for year access, any time of the day or night (just arrange with Wendell), and trails that make you feel as if you are riding miles from any civilisation. That sort of feeling can't be beaten. Despite the fact that I ride most trails in and around Gauteng, MTN Bike Park is the one I try and avoid because it doesn't feel like value for money to me. I would rather spend my money in diesel getting to Groenkloof or even Van Galens (outside Gauteng, I know) than spend it at MTN. My 2c.
  21. There is a bill called the Protection of Personal Information Bill which will require private bodies (such as race organisers) to protect personal information that peopls submit to it for "processing" (the bill's words ). Unfortunately, this piece of legislation has not been passed into law as yet.
  22. I'm not a setup guru, but, if you are moving your saddle up, you should move it slightly forward to compensate as well. Also, the Kit Carbonio Flow does have a narrower profile than the XP Flow. I went from a SI Max Flite Gel Flow to the Kit Carbonio Flow and had to raise my saddle almost 10mm. The "wings" (for want of a better word) also flex less than some of the bigger SI saddles.
  23. Yip, I bleed through the eyes every time I ride the blue at Rietvlei. Green is best ridden fast, especially through the trees.
  24. Maybe the other way round. Rietvlei's blue route is more technical than VG.
  25. Rietvlei. The trails are more challenging than VG, great for keeping you awake at 2am.
