  1. Agreed. You can't treat it as a training ride for you. It's got to be time you spend together. Ride next to her, or behind her, but never ahead.
  2. Says who? Anyhow, Spioenkop is confirmed. If 2012 is anything like 2011 was, there'll be over a 1000 riders there.
  3. I wonder if I could convert my top tube to muzzle loader?
  4. I'm there!
  5. A 26 inch rigid mtb fork ( suspension corrected for 100mm) will fit a 700c wheel. I know at least 1 tandem that runs a set with disc brakes with some success.
  6. I know that Cycle Hub at The Vlei hires out bikes to use on their trails.
  7. The only stock bike that I was able to find in 26 inch with adjustable dropouts was the Cotic Simple and it really fell short of what I was looking for. Of course, the other option is full custom, from the likes of Black Cat, Misfit Psycles, Sycip, etc, all around $2000 for a frame, regardless of material. I'll post up pictures as the build goes on, but currently I have the following: Kona Unit 18" frame - Soft Orange XT crank with Blackspire Mono Veloce SS chainring 32 tooth Wheels - Black A2Z hubs with green Loaded AMXC29 rims Orange Fire Eye spacer kit 18 tooth Gussett Double six rear cog Not sure what I want to do with the stem, bar, seatpost and saddle as yet.
  8. Started off at the Kona website, which led me to Maverick Cycles (the official distributor) in Durban. Placed an order and it should arrive before Christmas.
  9. 2012 Kona Unit. Well, frame and fork only as the complete bikes are only available in Feb next year.
  10. Waiting for my SS specific frame to arrive. Ooooooo, can't wait!!!!
  11. I'll be there, suffering along.
  12. We had a fantastic weekend. Don't know how we ended up on the podium, but I'm grateful to the_nerd for the effort he put in. Managed to put more hubber faces to names. Will definitely be back next year!
  13. Oddwheel has some for under R1000 that would be great for a beginner. Alan is very helpful.
  14. I've been learning to ride one for the past three months and can ride about 7 meters in a straight line. It's not easy and takes loads of practice. But, the first time you get it right, it's an awesome feeling.
  15. Those used uni's on oddwheel are all performance machines. Depending on the age of the person you are buying for, I would suggest a 20 inch wheel.
  16. I wouldn't suggest the Mavics as the freehub bodies are notoriusly frail and expensive. I would suggest American Classics. Some people have commented that the rims seem soft and dent easily. However, if you are a smooth rider or ride your tubeless tyres above 2 bar, you should be fine. I have been riding my American Classics for a year now, no problems. I'm 86kg and not a particularly smooth rider. Fulcrums are also great. Very stiff, but be prepared to fork out money to replace bearings when they do go. the_nerd is on a set of Fulcrums for 2 years, no problems and he is heavier than me
  17. OK, latest from the weather service is: Temps between 23 and 26 both days. Pack your wet weather gear for afternoon thunder showers on Saturday.
  18. I have a pair of MT101 that I've been running in for about 6 months. Really nice pair of shoes for both road and off road use. I'm doing between 5 and 8 km twice a week, so not major mileage.
  19. I'll also be on 32:18 (26er) and the_ nerd will be on 33:18 (26r). CN ride most of the route on this. Not sure we will be able to do it many times!
  20. The_ nerd and I will be there. SS all the way!
  21. I'm there. Along with the_nerd, we're a 2 man team. Looking forward to it, whoop, whoop!
  22. Awesome! Can't wait until my first is at that stage. Still got 4 months until he makes his first appearance though.
  23. I'm also confused. Anthem is an out and out race dual sus. Giant's trail bikes are the Trance and Reign. Although, I have a 2010 Anthem X with a 120mm Reba on to slacken the head angle and it's all the bike I've ever needed.
  24. Hi Wendell, Tried to enter a two man team. Step three of the entry process doesn't give options for a two man team? Please advise.
  25. Selle Italia SLR Gel Flow for the road. Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow for the mtb.
