  1. I would concur wholeheartedly with this. I started with the Krups burr grinder, grinding for Aeropress. Picked up a La Cimbali Domus and the grinder was immediately out of its depth. Picked up a little Isomac Macinino grinder and coffee became great again. Then, upgraded my espresso machine to an Isomac E61. The little Isomac grinder is not quite up to the task, but its acceptable. Now I'm looking for a grinder to match, Mazzer, Sette, etc. It never ends......
  2. Well, that's appropriate.....
  3. Met Stretched@birth at Thaba Trails to get some dirt on the boys tyres. Did 10km with the half wheeler, mixture of green, orange and yellow trails Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  4. I've found that its quite handy for the nerd to keep a lookout for me, got my last three machines that way........
  5. Ran my Krampus SS for a while. Had to run one tooth bigger on the rear cog compared to my "normal" SS. Don't underestimate the rolling resistance on those 3.0" tyres!
  6. Your axle to crown requirements should be met by a Surly Krampus fork. Give Grant a shout at Sprocket and Jack, he'll be able to help with the Surly steel forks Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  7. STR doesn't have horizontal dropouts, they're sliding dropouts, beeg difference.
  8. Surly Knard Surly Dirt Wizard Panaracer Fat B Nimble Vittoria Bomboloni WTB Ranger Bontrager Chupacabra Vee Trax Fatty Maxxis Chronicle All available in 29" x 3.0"
  9. I only have rigid forks on my bikes and have had for quite a while. My take: Carbon tube style rigid fork - lots of fore/aft movement under braking, not too confidence inspiring Kona P2 steel fork - surprisingly comfortable, some flex, but not disconcerting. Shoulda kept it and the bike it was attached to Niner Carbon RDO fork - No discernible fore/aft movement. The best rigid fork I have ridden, tracks the best, doesn't get knocked off line. Can be tiring in really rough stuff Surly steel fork - Not sure if the compliance is because of the 3" tyre, but seems a stable fork. Tracks well enough, but once again, could be the result of the giant balloon between its legs.....
  10. Gas stove? Slow heat, as low as possible. Pre-boiling water is quite important when using gas.
  11. We've been staying in Albany whilst on holiday and getting into the city takes some work. My cousin and his wife work near Smales Farm and Parnell Road respectively Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  12. Auckland traffic is insane...... Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  13. It was pretty dialled in until this past weekend, when we found out the people we're supposed to be staying with in Wellington, will be in Oz at the time we had planned to be there. We'll mostly be in Auckland, with a quick trip to Hamilton, Waitomo and another via Matamata and Rotorua, then of course Wellington.
  14. 13 days until we fly...... No honeymoon though, just a looksee
  15. Opposite where the old greenhills driving range was, in the office park on the left just before you cross over the N12 Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
  16. There is one of these parked at Dino's panelbeaters in Greenhills, Isando. They do classic restorations there and they have a showcase garage with glass doors. There's always something interesting parked there.
  17. I'm about halfway through The Girl in The Spider's Web, David Lagercrantz. It follows on from the Stieg Larsson trilogy. So far, it's quite good.
  18. Was really a great event. The vibe with the live music was great, food was good, beers not too pricey, a good start for a first event. But, man o man, that track! No place for hiding, you had to pedal every metre. People knock flat tracks, but it was a great workout, especially on SS. Rain did a wonderful job of settling down the track and it didn't last too long, so was happy to ride in the it.
  19. Oh, my wife and I are going over in June/July to have a look-see. Flights are booked. If all goes well, the Minister of Home Affairs will have her portfolio changed to Minister of Foreign Affairs by the end of the year
  20. I was told by the immigration agent that we approached, it wouldn't be necessary for me to write the IELTS. Got a Higher Grade C in English in 1997. Not sure when you matriculated, but they have a cutoff. If you matriculate after this year, you are required to write the IELTS. Sorry I don't have more info.
  21. I've read a couple of his, they're not too bad....
  22. I've tried his books before, they didn't really grab me. The Wasp Factory is a recommendation by a fellow reader, so I'll give Mr. Banks a second opportunity to shine.......
  23. Currently in the middle of Satori - Don Winslow. It's written as a prequel to Trevanian's Shibumi. So far, its not bad. Winslow doesn't have Trevanian's particular turn of phrase, unfortunately. Next in line is both of Harper Lee's books, followed by Paula Hawkins - The Girl on the Train Oh, and possibly Iain Banks' - The Wasp Factory. This seems to have overtones of We Need To Talk About Kevin
  24. That one in the gif is a Starrett. I have the same, just the metal bit, with the Pedro's branding on. There's a place in Germiston that sells the stamped versions as opposed to the cast Starrett. If you PM the_nerd, he'll know.
