  1. Also generally wholesalers are not ripping us off - no-one is getting rich from the cycling business. Many products are quite in line with international pricing. For those that are not, well, maybe they are taking a slightly bigger margin than they need to, but we are still not getting smoked in a big way.
  2. The guy is doing grey imports. I know that many of his products certainly don't come through the correct channels. Companies spend a lot of money to get the distribution rights for products, they do all the advertising, and then someone comes and undermines them. Anything bought through him for which there is a local agent will not get the backup from the local guys - they have long since started logging production codes, so they know what originates where. If you buy anything overseas, you won't get local backup either, but where this guy crosses the line is selling in South Africa products for which he does not hold the rights.
  3. That's rich, coming from a Micronesian...
  4. I think one can add a cadence meter to some of the newer Garmin models as well, so check them out to.
  5. Damn, just imagine - he could have ripped the legs of Robbie Hunter if he hadn't taken that tumble back in 2005...
  6. Nice. So if the guy is to have any case whatsoever, falling into oncoming traffic must have been either gross negligence or intentional on the part of your mate... Interesting!
  7. Kom ons vind uit wie die man is, dan kry ons hom almal in 'n donker hoekie die aand voor Argus 2008...
  8. Nah, I like mine just fine thank you very much!
  9. I do cycle to work, and I do get there faster. Problem is, I also get there sweatier, smellier, and scared ****less (which might account for the smellier part...)
  10. Traffic defines Johannesburg - therefore no such thing as traffic free areas in Johannesburg area.
  11. Just get a GPS like the Garmin Forerunner - much easier!
  12. Basic rule states ball of foot over pedal axle. Cleat position to be set so that there is some float both sides of neutral.
  13. On a more serious note though, there has been a lot of talk recently about fitting cleats right under the arch of the foot. However, the only shoe that I am aware of that allows this out the box is some custom German job that goes for 500 Euro per pair...
  14. In all honesty, twenty years from now, who is going to care? I know some really useless riders who have made the podium (myself included) and some really good ones who never have.
  15. Form and function often dictate fashion - you won't use something if you lose a race because of it.
  16. A pair of Zipp 404 tubbies weigh in at around 1250g, so yes, something weighing 1700 odd is heavy.

    TOKEN WHEELS

No way the rim height on that thing is 38! And there are so many ceramic bearings out there these days. No one ever mentions whether they are hybrid ceramic or full ceramic bearings. The top end bearings alone probably retail for more than that entire wheelset...
  18. Those are pretty ugly! A heavy wheel will always feel easier to keep the speed up on, but trust me, this is only an illusion. Lighter is always better, unless we are talking about handling on a descent or durability.
  19. Unfortunately some cyclists spend hours picking their LBS's brains on what the best bike for them is, get measured up, everything... and then bugger off to the lowest bidder for the bike. If you are going to take up hours of your LBS's time, at least have the common decency to buy from them.
  20. Well, at least it seems their internal control procedure is working. Let's just hope other teams out there can do the same (and actually be open about their findings...)

I'm just always confused as to why more people are not on Giant TCR Advanced frames. The bike has awesome handling, weight, and stiffness, and undercuts all of its competitors on price. It is also the same frame you find under the T-Mobile pros.

  23. There are many great online stores out there. The main problem is that, should something go wrong, your local bike shop and the local distributor of the product you imported for yourself will be none to pleased, and might not be all that inclined to help you out...
  24. The biggest issue with high end wheels is having the backup needed if something goes wrong, which is why many guys go for the more established stuff. I'm on Zipps, and have been riding them in various guises for more than a decade. Great wheels, and it's the little things that make them awesome.
