  1. Giants (all 4 of em), cause my legs have grown so much since we last crossed swords on Hector Norris
  2. If you have the money to spend on DA and you plan on racing then that has to be the way to go. DA is lighter, stiffer, stronger and in my experience more durable than Ultegra. DA also has more bling factor if you are that way inclined. My recommendation is if you race or plan on racing seriously, go for DA. If you are more of a social rider or a sub-4 hour argus is your goal then Ultegra is for you. Good luck, either way you can go wrong with Shimano no matter what the Scampies sayShortLegs2007-12-20 03:21:48
  3. Nice one, do think my wife will notice my "upgrade" from a Giant TCR to a Specialized S-Works SL2 They both kinda have black as the base colour and are made from carbon fibre

  7. I second that Spidy, I traded my Specialized Toupe for one of those bad boys and now me and my butt are friends again. Now I just need to ditch the rubbish shammys (Velotex) and long rides will be bliss again...
  8. Ok this is slightly different to Sequoia's original quirk. I'm pretty confident and experienced in traffic and most situations require a quick judgement call, in your situation I would (and did this morning) stay on the left of the straight lane drifting about 1m into the left-turn lane and when a car came up the left-turn lane, they were forced to slow down for me and wait for me to go straight across the intersection. This helps when the straight-lane are trying to break the land speed record before breakfast aswell. Crossing over the flow of straight flowing traffic is never a good idea, but I stand by what I said previously in that if that situation arises, the motorist can and should wait 1-2 seconds of their precious time to allow you to cross safely.
  9. I think Ronelle has a couple of pics of said over the line offenders, but I doubt she's willing to part with them
  10. Out of curiosity, how do you propose the said cyclists should turn right when faced with a steady flow of traffic
  11. I ride Keo's on both my road bikes and they are one of the easiest pedals to get into and out of. Couple of tips; 1). stay smooth, if you kick your foot forward and expect a perfect engagement every time, you'll hardly ever get it right. 2). once you feel the front of the cleat hooking the pedal, push down with you heel, if it doesn't engage then move you foot away completely to let the pedal rotate back to the neutral position to allow a retry. 3). practice on your own on a fairly quiet, flat road like a deserted parking lot, and look down until you perfect the movement of toe engage, heel down. Once you've got it right so you engage every time, then start looking forward until you get that right. 4). it's important not to panic when the gun goes and the race starts, sit down, look forward and feel your toe engage and then your heel. If all else fails, do what I do and let the Force guide your foot master Luke
  12. What pedals are you using If all else fails, practice Another thing, DON'T LOOK DOWN
  13. 26kph ave was a serious cruise. All I can say is a big thanks to StringBean for ripping my legs off the week before. Luckily we didn't go up at his pace cause I was blown to pieces.

  16. And you wear bi-focals pops
  17. What are the chances someone of importance (not you pinky) actually reading this thread and noting our concerns on the glass. Unless of course they're aware of the situation in which case, well done and sorry
  18. Ride his bike No seriously, if he's that out of shape merely riding the times you've said he has free will get him some level of base fitness. From then he can look at formulating some kind of program with his specific goal in mind.
  19. I've got both the Shimano (R215B) and Specialized (S-Works 2008) shoes and I would put the Specialized on top for comfort. They're also a bit lighter so if you're weight-weenieish then kudos there. I have a very broad foot and both feel great. Like every other component or item of clothing in our chosen sport, it'll come down to whatever bakes your noodle and doesn't break the bank. Good luck.
  20. RACE NUMBER: VA290 START TIME: 06:00 Hope there isn't 290 of us suckers...
  21. Saddles like most things (frames, pedals, handle-bars, bar-tape) are completely subjective. I agree that the old Rolls saddles are comfy, but heavy. I also found the Regal to be on the comfier side of the scale, while the SLR and the Toupe on the opposite side, I never got on with either. I do however concur that the Fizik saddles are top of my list. Having own(ed) the Arione, Aliante and Pave I found all of them to suit my posterior perfectly.
  22. I tried Sport Tracks 2.0 and love it http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/index.html
  23. My butt seems to get on with Fizik saddles, I've got both the Aliante (on my MTB) and a Arione (race bike) and both are very comfy. I've also ridden the Pave to destruction so I would recommend any of these three. I recently gave the Spesch Toupe a wiz and although it was comfy some of the time, I could not get it constantly so. I also have a San Marco Regal (Robbie McEwan replica) and its pretty comfy aswell. No guarantees that the money you spend on a saddle will work out, but your best bet is to go with what seems the most popular choice. Saying that I did ditch an SLR after a couple of weeks and surprisingly enough a Flite Ti, both of which felt bad. Possibly one of the hardest component choices you'll have to make, good luck.
