  1. Buy some tyre liners and cut them into small pieces (2cm or so). Stick a couple in your spares bag and you should be able to get home no matter how bad the cut. Can be a little tricky sliding the little sucker into the correct positioning but I've been riding a set of tyres I cut the day I got them with my mini-liners in and never had any problems. In fact they're almost through to the canvas (GP4000S).
  2. Yay
  3. my 2c I've got a pair of 404 tubs that I use exclusively for racing. Tubs (in my opinion) are way better than clinchers in every respect bar punctures. The reality is that a puncture in any race is tickets for that race and comes down to getting back to the start/finish. I've replaced my tub in a race (after 15kms) which lost me 10mins on the guys I was racing with and my thumbs were nearly bleeding but I did it and got safely round the entire course. Tub tape is one option but I prefer to glue the suckers on. Vittoria Pit Stop is another option but I haven't had the displeasure just yet. This past weekends high winds on the Cobra convinced me to put my Ksyrium up front, but seeing guys riding with both meant it can be done although we didn't have to race down Ou Kaaps where the wind was worst. Bottom line; if you've got the money then splash out on a pair of deep-section tubs, you won't be sorry
  4. Looks more to Mr Kernels taste
  5. Specialized are streets ahead of Shimano which up until I got the Specialized's were the most comfy ever (over Sidi's). I have very broad feet and while the Shimano's are perfect in that regard, the Specialized just feel like I'm wearing socks. I find that the point at which the Shimano's go from snug to over tight is very quick however the Specialized always feel snug and never too tight. The insoles of the Specialized can be further customised for an even better fit.ShortLegs2008-01-16 01:01:56
  6. My two previous posts on this topic are: So which one offended you to warrant that sort of response? just out of interest so I know to which post I'm appologising for
  7. Won lots of races since then (granted in the UK) so that memory is very distant.
  8. Hey GreyOwl, didn't you get selected to go to a world championship event a long time ago
  9. It's Rene Hasselbacher from Astana, he's been in Cape Town since the DC. You should have paid him to wait in a queue of cars behind him
  10. Don't worry SB, you're not a sci-fi freak at all Just a freak
  11. ... on your track bike
  12. I did 123kph down Lido hill in JHB ...................... following my dad's Kombi
  13. I've been riding the Black Chilli GP4000S for about 6 months now and having ridden Attack/Force these are definitely a step up in all respects. The ride is as close to tubs as any clincher I've ridden and the puncture resistance has been outstanding. Wear is really good and I'm still riding on my original pair after 6 months. They don't seem to cut up as badly as the Michi's and I've even stuck a pair of GP4000S tubs on my race wheels. If I we're giving them a rating, they would get 4 out of 5 "chillis" since their only downfall is price, but full marks for everything else.
  14. Cow-girls don't cry, except in front of their horses Bummer TS, hope you manage to cycle comfortably and get better pronto.
  15. Kernel, buttaflies refering to Hershall
  16. And tell your mechanic to sort out that bike-computer cable.
  17. Cheers for the jinx WH, no punctures this morning
  18. Ja, managed to dodge the carnage aswell along the same roads. Trouble is if we don't ride it, it'll never get picked up so might aswell "take a few for the team"
  19. I can't believe there's no pictures of my porno-Specialized-shoe-covers There were a couple of serious/semi-serious photographers in the track centre, wonder where their pics are likely to be found
  20. Was a wicked day's racing. The atmosphere was palpable and the only thing that eclipses it slightly was Good Friday at Herne Hill in south London a couple of years ago but that's to be expected with world track champions, Mr Wiggins Mr McGee and Mr O Grady in attendance. Was really nice to chat to Fire again after not recognising her in her Bellville Cycles skin-suit Fortunately my endurance made up for my massive lack of speed but I was disappointed not to make the split in the 25 miler. Great days racing run well ahead of schedule, definitely see me back there next year
  21. tubs or clinchers?
  22. Dunno if they're compatible with Shimano as seems to be paulvs current groupset (assumed). Anyway, I thought any Shimano or Campy component would spontaneously combust when combined
  23. Quality, weight, longevity all come to mind. My 2c; don't waste your time on shimano chains, KMC/SRAM are as good/better and you can take them off to clean any time you like.
