  1. i hope the taxi driver wraps himself around a pole (without involving anyone else) and loses a limb. w@nker. strongs to teh cyclist and i hope he recovers and gets a decent prsthesis and can continue cycling
  2. widget, i'm not saying the tragedy is their responsibility, but those cyclists who don't move over for official vehicles did contribute to the delay in response time. i also didn't say that it was all the cyclists that refused to move over - just some of them. unfortunately those that are like this tend to be like this in all aspects of their life. i also didn't say that it's only cyclists who do this - one trip of 5km along any road in this country will show it to be a huge SA problem.
  3. as to the time it takes for ambo to get there... it was tough enough getting apst some cyclists on a motorbike to go sort out taxis that were trying to invade the route so i can only imagine how the ambo must've struggled to get past. for some strange reason cyclists seem to get very very selfish (refer to that old Jeckyl and Hyde thread). when they are on a bicycle ONLY they matter - cars and other people must move away for them and NO ONE and NOTHING must block them, not even marshals and ems vehicles. then they get in their caar - same thing... suddenly cyclists can all just die and get out of their way because now they have finished and they want to get home. it really p1sses me off big time, but until they are the one who needs assistance they don't seem to think anyone else deserves it.
  4. a recommendation should be made and they say it was medics, not mere 1st aiders that actually said he was fine to continue. if he'd continued anyway even if they had said to stop then it would be different. i had an ambo called in for a lady who fell even though she was arguing with me and a spectator that she was fine - she'd gone down had, skidded quite a way and she had hit her head - we were not willing to "let things be" (i suspect the spectator might have had 1st aid training as well by how he was dealing with things) because a bump to the head is risky. shortness of breath that doesn't go away when you stop at the water table is not a good sign. but none of us was there when they'd stopped and spoken to the medics - he might well have appeared to only be unfit and his BP might've been fine in which case maybe they were justified in their reaction. anyway, how the heck do you think they feel knowing what has happened???? do you not think that maybe they are beating themselves up big time about this? my belief is that when it's your time it's your time. and it was his time. imagine he'd been sitting alone at home watching the race on TV because "he wasn't fit enough" and had a heart attack anyway all on his own without sharing his last moments with his wife doing something fun??????
  5. THE Toy Run is sunday 30 november (so we can't do it that day or ewep and i cant participate) and the following weekend is the 24hr AND the poison rally (ie most bikers won't be available) so how about we make it the weekend after that? (ie the 13th or 14th of december) unless we get our act together and do it on saturday 29th november?
  6. i like the idea of a ride where all can participate together AND focus on what it's about. even just a very short one - an hour or two all told - leaves enough time for all the other stuff we all need to get done at this time of the year
  7. i always greet everyone from runners to walkers to cyclists to bikers, whether i'm running, walking, cycling or riding. and yes, i even greet harley riders.
  8. ag, i just rode my bike all day yesterday.....
  9. Spud, Sash is a labrador x ridgeback with a touch of kangaroo in the mix somewhere... she ate up the wooden frame of my old wendy house....
  10. yep, DMT is a brand. but honestly as HR says, Olympics are great. the only reason i have the (pricey in comparison) DMT's was that they were an emergency purchase one sunday morning... because my mutt ate my one Olympic... and NO shoe on this planet is Sasha-proof (NOTHING is Sasha-proof)
  11. as HR says - squishy bugs and stuff, and spiders.... also make sure you've shaken all the mud and stones out before you wear it again.... hmmm, ok, seriously - if you're gona do a lot of walking look for something with a slightly softer sole or with velcro fastening. the latter is easier to put on and take off for the hike-a-bike bits and walking in a very stiff soled shoe is not easy. i love the 2 little studs on my DMT's for when i wak the really steep bits - they do give excellent traction.
  12. amateur, at least you've been practising your poker face
  13. Yup' date=' he's not quite at his peak at the moment.[/quote'] Bruce, i speak under correction...but does Andrew not ride with a group from the Engen garage in the mornings? If that is the case, how would he be able to train his L4, L5, L6 zones if he is in a group? Andrew rides L4, L5 and L6, the group chases him around Jozi... , sheesh!!! Glad i don't live in Jozi....must be "fun" when you roll through and Andrew is next to you.......ok, i am gonna do a quick 6min L5 interval......1 x new handle bar tape and carbon bar when you get home every so often i see the remnants of the group when i'm on my way to work... they look worse than after the average race... seriously bad... on one or two occasions i've even considered turning and excorting them to make sure they don't fall over in the road...
  14. if his face was anything to go by' date=' he was simply cruising along with zero effort... as for the rest of them - i dunno... they were too far back so after getting him safely to the finish line i just headed off to go sort out some taxis in randburg area...[/quote'] James Lauter (sp?) doing the commentary on the line got a bit of a surprise when Andrew arrived, nearly missed him! Belive me, 0.9 Intensity for 1 hour hurts, he just hides it well. huh?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?? a big yellow bike with yellow headlights and hazzards on and strobes flashing away and hooting like mad and revving it's loud pipes comes tearing up and peels off into the "official cars" turn off at insane speed (almost seeing her @ss in the process) and he nearly misses the fact that there is a winner about to cross the line??????? eish, next year i'm fitting a mega-loud horn as well!!!!!!!

  16. i'm getting you an mp3 of the original recording... one of the few times when i feel asking favours is worthwhile
  17. yep - i passed him twice... once very early when the VC's passed him and then later when i did my second (almost) full lap right near the end - he was tired but still going strong... well done rad!!!!!!
  18. SlOW, that's a fabulous idea. unfortunately i live in Jhb but hopefully all the cape guys and gals can be there.
  19. R.I.P. Chris. heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. i echo windblowns view on what i hope karma does to the murdering b@stard
  20. whoohoo!!!! this is excellent news.
  21. i feel desperately sorry for the whole family, but i'm also angry at teh folks - they really should've made the kid wear a helmet. and now they're going to have to live with the knowledge and guilt of their bad choice. i truly hope that they all learn from it AND that anyone else reading about it learns from it. hopefully the scars will be minimal and the kid will be up an about soon - the report does say that luckily he has not suffered from any brain or neurological damage so let's all just hope that he doesn't need the op mentioned.
  22. wish i could help, but i'm busy from 8:30 till about 13:30
  23. people people people.... THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH COFFEE OR TOO MANY BIKES!!!! if anyone tries to convince you otherwise they need serious help
