  1. I was encased in nice warm leathers and full face helmet and yet I can still feel the effects of that bitterly cold harsh wind. It was so bad I dreamt of it last night. I hope the D2D guys are having a better day.
  2. Heya Scotty! :-D Cold cold cold!!! Today was the first time this year that I put my heated grips over 50%. I was freeeeeeezing. Kudos to all the cyclists who braved the weather!
  3. Pancakes! Yippee! Hope there are some left by the time I help get the last riders in. Marshalling is tough work :-P
  4. As a below-intermediate complete pansy-girl girl rider I agree. Not because I have any dreams of ever being able to ride the technical stuff, but because I enjoy watching others do so. It's no fun watching people ride the kind of stuff I ride. Getting off and pushing/carrying your bike around technical sections is not that tough.
  5. I'll be the but on the "wrong" bike ;-) Have asked to do sweep but not sure I'll get my favorite spot. If I don't I'll just have to do the roving thing after I get my bunch in. Say hi (wave or chat) if you see me... Short chick on white Suzuki DR (on/off road for non-bikers).
  6. Thanks for the update meezo. At least there is hope and, while most govt hospitals are in utter disrepair, we do have some of the worlds' best specialists here in SA.
  7. Took my buzz rack for inaugural trip today. Managed to damage one of the ratchet fasteners though! Was leaning over trying to figure out how to loosen it and managed to snap it! :-O Hope the retailer can make a plan to sort it out for me (can only go pop in there next weekend)
  8. So here is the whole cycling support package obtained over the past week... Car and bike rack. Bike loaded to prove how useful the new purchases are ;-)
  9. Ok, so I went with the BuzzRunner 2. Much more affordable than Thule, excellent reviews on the 'net. Locks rack to tow bar and bikes to rack. Folds easily for storage when not in use. Tilt function has little "clamps" to prevent any possible "accidental" tilting. Will give it it's maiden voyage this weekend. Of course I'm now faced with a "double step" to get off the property... Car with rack is too long for my courtyard so will have to open gate before attaching bike rack and loading bikes :-P Luckilly fitting rack is insanely quick and easy.
  10. Anyone have experience with the saris?
  11. On this topic... Looking at rackandcarry... Are the buzz racks and menabo racks good? They are much more affordable than the Thule. Having just spent the moola on my Avanza, funds are a leeeeeetle tight.
  12. No more having to take front wheel off bike to fit into the car :-)
  13. Go,ahead and brag about dropping me! I know I'm slow, even in my dreams I'm slow ;-) (yeah yeah, I was dreaming about going riding every day while on leave, but somehow the bed keeps trapping me)
  14. My youngest kitty figures I love my ridgeback so much he needs a ridge too. This ridge only shows up when he is completely at ease and relaxed!
  15. Aiaiaiaiaaaaai! Definitely some ego issues here ;-) Guess I'll never be allowed to ride someone's slip because I don't think I'll ever be strong enough to take a turn pulling. Unless snails start cycling! (And nope, no guy is ever going to ride in my slip to check out my butt... It really is not worth checking out so I am safe from oglers ;-) )
  16. I haven't looked at this thread for a while and now when I do it is to see such sad news. I'm so sorry for your loss Wil6
  17. Don't you want to do an afternoon ride this weekend? I'm marshalling the lido loop to do my monthly road rangers duty and I just know I'm going to want to ride after getting all jealous ;-)
  18. There is no right or wrong way until you come short because you've used the wrong brake. When I started riding I almost saw my butt a few times because I kept using the front brake when I wanted the back and vice versa. So I swapped them around. When I got back onto a motorbike I realised why - on the m'bike the back brake is right foot and the front is right hand. Now I simply set my bikes accordingly as that is what is ingrained in my mind (I rode motorbikes most of my life and only started cycling in 2003). If you prefer it the other way then that is what works for you and how you should route your cabling.
  19. Just a note on saddles... Test ride and choose what feels best. I get comments about my roadie saddle on my mtb, but I seriously have not found a saddle as suited to me as the fizik arione, even for mtb. I know other girls, though, who prefer bigger fatter softer saddles. Try them all out if you can (I was lucky that my lbs let me test ride a whole lot of saddles to find the best fit)
  20. Yep. My mtb was highly uncomfortable till I took about 2cm off each side. Do just ride a bike as is a bit first before you start cutting stuff... You can't un-cut if you take too much off ;-)
  21. Anyone who knows me should be aware of my aversion to spending money on cars... But I did it... I am buying a brand spanking new Toyota Avanza 1.3sx with tow bar and radio and smash and grab. Just waiting to hear from dealer when (after the 20th, payday) my "bus" will be ready for collection :-) No more being licked in the face by my dogs when driving :-)
  22. Other than the most expensive ones, ladies' bikes are simply low end "normal" bikes painted in "girly" colours and then low end components put on. Buy the right size frame in "normal" spec and swap out the stem for a shorter one and the bars for narrower if you need. This works for me and those who have met me will know I am extremely short and very narrow shoulders (think 38cm bars as possibly too wide if you base your opinion on measurements)
  23. Go to cycle fit and get them to set you up. Well worth every cent. I thought my fit was close to perfect but they made it better.
  24. Danger Dassie also clearly needs someone to help hold beers at the Champs!
