  2. Yes. And I agree. If you make it that women see they can make a living like the men, then you will get more women competing. And more women will mean higher performance. Great snowball effect. And also, there is a historical context which also play a role, where women were seen as less than men. To become more equal opportunity you should actually have higher prize money for the women to try and correct for previous imbalances. I won't mind that either.
  3. You put forth no argument? I think you are confusing equal opportunity and equality. Men, women, children are not equal. But all deserve the same opportunity. But let's turn this around. If two men do the same job in a company, but one takes twice as long as the other, should they be paid the same?
  4. You forgot the most important thing, namely the time. But I assume you agree that men and women are not equal in MTB? Playing devil's advocate here!
  5. Don't you find this a bit ironic? They are confirming that the ladies are NOT equal by letting them race in a different category than the men, but then paying them the same as the men in the name of equality. Before I get attacked, I'm actually for equal prize money.
  6. I think he started with the elites/pros and is licenced as such. Can't think he will register as 40+ vet! But I haven't seen any follow up so not sure the outcome.
  7. Guys is it true suzie was given the vets prize and not elites?
  8. Yes [emoji23]
  9. There's been some interesting research on risk taking and protective measueres. Don't have the research now, but should be easy to find on google. For example, in the NFL they have found people taking more risks with the helmet, because they feel safer. Go take a look at helmet to helmet "tackles" on YouTube and then go look at the movie/doc Concussion with Will Smith. Interesting area of research and study. In terms of myself, when training I always wear a helmet. Common sense for me. But I understand all my common sense is my opinion so I don't hate on somebody not wearing one. But also, this morning I rode with an old bomber to the beach. About 5km. And without a helmet. So I guess I'm an enigma
  10. If you belong to a professional TV watching sport organisation and their rules forbid any medicine (I guess eye drops for them would be like epo for cyclists!) then yes, you shouldn't. But your example is not really comparing apples with them apples?!
  11. It brings in another interesting question, and raised with all the recent TUEs released by the russian hackers: should you be racing if you are that sick that you need medicine? Not aimed at Ty or anyone specific, just asking questions.
  12. Exactly. The unintentional defense. But you have to have a strong case and it's for you to proof your innocence as far as I know. Conrador tried the same with his steak, but in his case they found that the probability of the steak being contaminated was just too low and thus impropable.
  13. My uninformed opinions, and assuming you ask one question of whether the doctor can sue, but based on different scenarios? Yes, technically any person can sue. But as far as I know, the doctor only has to provide the name of the medicine given. He has no duty to know of or inform the patient if it's on some banned list, because that's not law. That responsibility to find out is on the athlete and as far as I know it is clearly stated in the UCI rules. Thus the doctor can sue for e.g. defamation. If doctor gives and informs of correct medicine given, no problem for doctor. If incorrect medicine given, doctor can be sued in personal capacity for both malpractise and that evidence can also be used in the doping case. Patches raises good qurstions which I have also thought about. We should explore them. "Doping" in sport is very grey. The only problem is that real cheaters use that grey to try and get out of being caught or being found guilty, which kind of messes it up for everyone.
  14. Suddenly the whole picture changes! Except for being the owner and drawing a salary, I would definitely not invest equity in a bicycle shop with expected returns of 10 to 12%!
  15. Would be nice to see actual financial statements for my analytical minded brain. I assume those margins are gross, therefore excludes all other expenses like rent, salaries, etc. If the net margin is about 20 to 30% I would assume people would be more comfortable? Large listed companies very roughly aims for 15 to 20% net margin / return on capital, therefore you would expect higher for a small cycling shop which is more risky?
  16. People have realised 29 is better so no discussion required [emoji56]
  17. Do it!
  18. I would also like to know more. And not just a friend told me. I want to see where it's written. This example kind of shows how difficult it is to search for things. See in the pictures two interesting points. In the first one they talk about searches, but nothing after. The second one is more interesting, because it seems it was banned in 2008 at least, because of the possibility of unlisted ingredients. Which begs the question, how can athletes search for unlisted ingredients?!
  19. I won't get you started! But I was thinking now, for next year, maybe I can try to do a short rider profile every week on the hub. From juniors, u23 to elites. Mmm and perhaps do a short interview with the riders as well. Or do a short profile and tell the profiled rider to come do an hour q&a on the hub where the hubbers can ask questions!
  20. Thanks [emoji106] My grammar is not great and the plural "rules" was my worry. Edit: **** should that be ... plural "rules" was my worry or ... plural "rules" were my worry [emoji1] I would go for "was" because of the singular "worry"?
  21. I actually don't know much about the riders. Will look into it for myself National Team 2016 Tour du Rwanda: Calvin Beneke Carl Bonthuys Mornay van Heerden George Perrins Wian-David Slabbert Management Peter Lee Jeffries
  22. I understand your frustration. To be fair, it's more like a Vodacom cup (or even club rugby) comparison. No offense meant! There's been some very heated discussions for all disciplines (road, mtb, etc) about selections before here on the hub!
