  1. oh my word...I think I'm going to start having sleepless nights. Thanks everyone for ALL of this advice!. I'm not one to keep quiet, so I don't think communication will be too much of a problem. Skye - you have successfully convinced me never to go downhill on a tandem. Thanks for that very informative warning.
  2. I'm going to practice being a stoker! (mdk - it's actually Location, Location, Location!!)
  3. I'm not. Please don't report me
  4. I'm taking my own saddle along
  5. http://www.tandemcyclingsa.co.za/TrainingTips/Yourfirstride/tabid/99/Default.aspx I also have it on good authority that the stoker is ALWAYS right..I can get used to that!
  6. Is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning? Mdk has ever so graciously invited me to join him for the double the fun on Saturday!! I've been fully briefed and have been given a list as long as my arm of all the do's and don'ts. Don't know if I'm more nervous or excited...anyone got any advice? How many sleeps left until Sat?
  7. Not that I know of Marius. He went for a ride this morning on the road. I think he might go on Friday morning. You should know that he doesn't normally ride with me - I'm too slow! He went last Friday and also RAVED about it.
  8. I'm planning on going there tonight! Hope I make it around in one piece!
  9. I'm ok with that explanation - you forgot the easy gear
  10. Velouria - I'm scared to ask how you know that is YOUR bum
  11. You see Tjoppies - I'm right and you're wrong
  12. Fair enough - but there are also guys lower down in the field who sourced sponsors for the Epic. I'm not saying you have to dedidate all the coverage to the bottom field, but it would be lekker to see some familiar faces suffering.
  13. Mark and Don? I saw their van from time to time, but didn't see them. I was a bit dissapointed with the TV coverage. Don't get me wrong - it's great to see how the top guys do things, but what about the other 1000 riders that rode for 9 days? Those are the riders that MAKE the event.
  14. I've just finished reading the Kite Runner. What an amazing story. Also interesting to read how Afgahanistan was 20 years ago....and to see what it is today.
  15. Hey Pedal. Nice seeing a familar friendly face along the way! Glad to hear you guys got home safely. Hope all those foreigners are doing ok after all the "strange" SA food you guys kept feeding them!
  16. Wow Ratty - that beeeaaauuutiful I hope Colonel sees this
  17. And the CT wind seems to have finally died down...but rumour has it that it will be back on Sat and Sun
  18. Titus Ti Do I win a prize?
  19. Shame - I actually saw fatcyclist about 3km from home and he had managed that far without a flat last night!
  20. This wind has been really unkind to us this year. Normally the wind stops in February...but it seems to have just got stronger in February this year! Last night I was positively sick to death of the wind, so I rode my mountain bike in Tokai. Normally if the wind is blowing, there isn't a breathe in the forest - but not last night!! I'm staying positive though. Perhaps we are having a "late summer" and the weather will be just fine and dandy for the Argus
  21. It's actually a very clever strategy that they have going. People have come to expect bad service, so on the rare occassion when they have a good day - we are all super excited about it.
  22. My mom would say they have a "bicycle face" - as jy hom sien wil jy hom trap
  23. Yip Pops - phoned them on Friday and went there on Saturday as well. They don't even have the Specialized Torch shoes (my 2nd option) at the moment. They say that they are getting some stock in. It seems like bike shops always have "stock coming"
