  1. It's possible to do it on your road bike, the up is easy, the down you slide a bit. But will do it on the mtb, easier to hop up sidewalks and over pedestrians if needed!
  2. Heheheh... once I make the decision to enter full IM, then I'll go home via Malans to get some extra km's and climbing in
  3. Plan is to do it twice a week, weather permitting. And once my schedule allows, increase to 3 days a week.
  4. Durbanville to Century City - Go over Tiekie Draai, through Burgundy Estates, to Bosmansdam Road, to Century City, about 23km
  5. Commuted in this morning! It was awesome! And I learned that with careful packing, you can put everything in to your back pack. And if you ride with someone that's much stronger than you, your planned relaxed commute becomes a great high intensity workout. Fastest I've commuted to work ever!
  6. Can you maybe put more info on here, it's a tad difficult to try and follow another thread with what happened without having to read all 8 pages. I.e. a short summary would be good.
  7. Do you guys commute in the rain as well? I've been wanting to start again, but the weather just hasn't been playing along. I have the wet weather gear, but just not sure on the safety/visibility aspect?
  8. I commute on my mtb. Easier to hop off the road or on and off sidewalks. Also as Riaan said, there's a lot of debris on the road and I don't feel like fixing flats every other day. Which would happen because it's dark out and the lights can only pick up so much.
  9. Endomondo on the phone app and then upload garmin data to strava and vitality and everything else that I record my rides on. Mainly because with endomondo, people can track where I am along a ride just in case something happens, and I don't believe that option is available on any of the other apps.
  10. Funny you should mention that, because I have volunteered both my personal time and professional services to the committee and was contacted by the chairman who was very keen to meet. I'm still waiting for him to get back to me to set up a time to meet in person (and I have followed it up with an email to remind him).
  11. This thread started about lack of communication and I see it has progressed to the name calling that happens on the FB page. For the naysayers, what is an acceptable amount of time to respond to someone when an email is sent with a question/comment/request? We all have jobs to pay for our cycling addiction, so if you can't get to something during working hours, I find that acceptable. So how long then to even just send a "Hey, got your email, am busy right now. Will get back to you when I can"? Then if the soil and clay is too hard to do trail maintenance during summer, I'll have to let all the contractors know that they can't work during the months of November through June, cause they obviously didn't get the memo that they need water in order to work in the clayey soils. It has been requested and even offered that a trail maintenance day will be forthcoming, that was a couple of months ago. For the size of the FB group, is one person enough to handle being admin/moderator? As has been stated before he does have a day job, so obviously can't attend to all the comments posted there. Take the Hub for instance, we have multiple moderators.
  12. Can't find the exact number, but it was something over 2000 members. Obviously they need to pay for trail maintenance and land owners, etc.
  13. niterider, the chairman, and other committee members themselves have been contacted NUMEROUS times via phone calls and emails. Smimby would be able to elaborate further on the phone calls. There's a decent size group of us that would like to meet with them over varying issues, and we get postponed, and postponed, and postponed. And then two of the people get banned on the FB page for a nonsensical reason, and even after having spoken to the chairman directly and having him agree that it doesn't make sense, their application to join the FB page again gets denied.
  14. This is the hub, I know what'll happen. Fortunately over the years I've made some really good friends on here and have, I think, a pretty good reputation. So the people that do know me, will realize I'm not just barking up a tree for no apparent reason.
  15. If you would not criticize or ask questions on a public forum, then how would you approach a suggestion or question or request? I personally would start out by contacting members on the committee and then hopefully they will respond. If they don't get back to me after a week or so, I will then attempt again since e-mails have been known to get lost in the big wide world of interwebs. Then, if I don't get a response, I will go to the next best thing which is called facebook and post my questions, suggestions, or requests on there. And then there are a few things that can happen on the facebook forum 1. the post gets removed, or 2. I get called and idiot and it's suggested to ride a road bike, or any other number of flippant remarks What would be the next logical option? In this age of social media, the consumers have all the right to ask questions or complain, it's up to the company to react appropriately to the consumers that will make them stand out above other companies. And I'm all for Tygerberg to put egg on my face, I would welcome it, because then that means something has been done.
  16. To each their own, and I agree the trails are great and we definitely get good value for money But don't you think that at least somethings could maybe be slightly better, or haven't you ever wondered how the trails are constructed, what more can be done to improve the overall experience?
  17. Not saying that the books need to be audited. But I'm currently the treasurer for another club, and if a member requests a status of the financials, I can send it to them. The question is why can't that happen with this club. The big thing comes down to communication with the members, everything seems as if it has to be so secretive. Unless there's a top secret nuclear plant somewhere in the Tygerberg Hills area, I don't know what the fuss is about.
  18. Oooh, good idea! I'll post mine when I get home!
  19. Tygerberg As a paying member you should be able to get requested information. Just a quick calc, without sponsorships the club is getting over ZAR1 mil just for membership fees (and that's on the low end), with that kind of cash flow wouldn't you want to know what's being done with all the money? And yes, I've met some individuals that were discussing making copies of other boards in order to by pass having to pay membership.
  20. Hence the request for a copy of the constitution.
  21. Don't forget about whether members can get a copy of the club constitution when it's requested. Or have the constitution readily available on the club's website.
  22. And then for your birthday, your wife/chick/woman will buy you one for you and abscond with the new one.
  23. Discrimination!
  24. Definitely! It's just a quick rip and then you're smooth for 4 weeks! No worries!
  25. Man up and wax!
