I tell all reasonably fit cyclists who haven't run since they were young...... Start small.

Seriously. You will injure yourself if you start expecting your cycling muscles to carry you for extended periods at a jog.

Even 5km is too long when you're first starting.

    But ja, good luck.

Running is the source, hope you stick with it.........

Shot thank you, I have started slow and can do a 8km easily now. Buuuuut it's shocking how inefficient my body is at running vs cycling. Haven't found that zone 2 running pace yet...

Lovely cars, if you find a clean one the owner wont sell.

Problem is they are rather old now, so clean ones are hard to come by.

Very true, they are as rare as hen's teeth. And if you find one through a Volvo dealer then they add their extra rarity price, but I guess business is business.

I remember the days when this was sold out in hours.  It just shows you, if you do not change and adopt your business model with changing times you will go out of business, sometimes slowly, sometimes over night, but it will happen.  Adapt of die...

This will be a good real-life study in Marketing studies going forward.  What, how, when, and why did it go pear shaped.

Exactly, there was a time where you had to refresh the page waiting as soon as the entries open to get a spot.

Now you have time to see how your December training block goes before entering

  4. Reading through all of the posts I think I have realized that replacing the carbon MTB hardtail would be difficult. I get too much of kick out off feeling the immediate power transfer and negotiating the single tracks to find the smoothest line.

My roadbike isn't worth much but the value I get out of it would be difficult to replace.

Now speaking hypothetically and in a perfect world where I just have all the money one could want. I would replace my roadbike with a Scott Addict Gravel, light and responsive but can be used on the road or gravel.

So guess for now I'm keeping my bike the way they are

  5. Hi everyone

That time of year when everyone has the need for a dramatic change,

So this is my end of year "crises"

I want to replace my 2011 Merida Scultura and 2014 Scott scale 930 with a single gravel bike.

I enjoy the odd road race here and there with the yearly Argus to see if "This year is my sub 3 year". I enjoy riding in Jonkershoek but enjoy the climbing more than the coming down so would always opt for the fire roads down seeing that its still harsh on the Scale coming down Armageddon.

Would I regret such a decision and would I still be able to push it in the odd road race if I put some skinny road tyres on the gravel bike? I guess its all in the legs, the real question is would I feel such a big difference between the road and gravel bike if I put on proper road tyres on the gravel bike, Like the GP5000 tyres.

Has anyone tried racing with a gravel bike on the road with road tyres, and how was the experience?

    New Spark ??

Seems like some sharp angles ... which is such a bad idea in an era of marginal gains ....

Apparently some ebikes require part removal of the motor to get to the space where some cables are run ...

I often have the rear inner and outer replaced at a major service .... these fun bits totalle distorts a time based quote ...

Was thinking the new spark as well. I'm a huge Scott fanboy but when the day comes for a soft tail then I'll 100% go for the previous gen Spark, just for the ease of mind when wanting to service the bike.

Had some fun at the trails with the camera a while back.

This series of pics, incidentaly a HT, shows what the chain goes through after only a very small jump

PS - not sure which of these bikes even have SRAM or Shimano ....

PPS - also not sure just how much of this chain slap the clutch can reduce.

Just having fun on a Sunday afternoon with old pics.

Lekker to see the you guy jumping like that,

I'm more of a roller, even though a can hold my own down Armageddon I'm not one for jumps.

One trip to the dentist after some chipped teeth healed me from the need to see daylight between my wheels and the horizon.

    Hiehie ....

My HT clutch is also permanently off. But it is only used onroad ...

The dual suss lets me know very quickly if I forget to engage the clutch !!  Chain slapping the stay ....  stop, switch on clutch and she works perfectly.

Haha ah makes sense, yes I'm on a HT and im rarely bothered by chain slap.

I'll definitely take this into account when I upgrade to a dual sus.

With 4.off clutch setups it is just a matter of time till I need it on short notice ... 😉

This is going to be quite the controversial comment but I’ve been cycling with the clutch off for more than a year and have been very happy with the shifting.

Only this past week when I replaced the outer and inner cable I decided to try the  derailleur again with the clutch on, only to find when flipping the clutch lever there was no resistance, as if the lever was connected to nothing😅

My thoughts exactly. The clutch was not engaging, so I opened it (serviced it before) and started to remove the parts for cleaning/re-grease, the complete clutch unit came off, normally only the ring and adjuster would. When I inserted a screwdriver to open the ring the one point came-off (It did not sound or felt like a snap). I applied virtually zero force, to me it felt as if it was already seperated.

Anyway, I'll buy a service kit and fix it.

Please post where you ended up getting a service kit, I suspect I’m in the same boat with mine.
