  1. Opinions on tyres are divergent and cheap. Actual numbers are harder to find. Bicycle rolling resistance is one good source. Of the big brands that are easy to find locally Panaracer and Pirelli both do well, but for all out speed the Continental Terra Speed is the one. Personally, for the price, availability, and width, the 45-50mm Pirelli will do fine for you IMO. Any of the top rated tyres will do what you want and it's going to come down to personal preference, including aesthetics, brand loyalty, and what sort of cyclist you want to be perceived at when you upload a photo of your bike post-ride to Strava. Copy and paste this response to any thread about tyres... https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/cx-gravel-reviews
  2. Keen to try it. But please, please - Fourways / Waterfall is not the heart of Jozi
  3. For off road rides, sure. But for the tarmac crowd? Strava has the ability to suggest routes that are generally superior to what I've found on other apps, simply because of the large roadie user base.
  4. There are other benefits, such as being able to find new routes in new places, that are useful if you're fortunate enough to travel to strange lands and ride there.
  5. They come up regulary. Even in XTR https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/mountain-bike-wheels/603087/xtr-wheel-set
  6. Opinions on tyres are worse than opinions on almost anything else, and you'll find incredibly divergent responses here. Most tyres out there are pretty good. Buy a few used and try them out till you figure out what works for you.
  7. Strava can show you commonly routes in your area - I'm not sure whether this is a premium only feature, but it is what I used to discover new places to cycle. Most watches will do what you need. I'm a fan of the Garmin Forerunner 45 as a cheapish used buy for beginners.
  8. The Aspen is a very low profile tyre, it is not in the same category as the forekaster, at all
  9. Not much out there that is faster for similar grip. If you're willing to sacrifice grip, the Conti Race King and Cross King combo is very fast.
  10. I prefer it when they re-use the previous seller's pictures, and you can see the small mud spot that was there 3 ads back is still there, so it hasn't even been washed in between.
  11. Everything you want to know is here: https://cyclingtips.com/2019/12/the-best-bicycle-chain-durability-and-efficiency-tested/
  12. Until something goes missing, then it's chaos and all the tracking numbers in the world won't help you.
  13. PUDO is significantly easier and cheaper for me and I use it most of the time, although both the app and the company behind it (Courier Guy) are useless beyond belief. I've hardly ever had an issue with people expecting things immediately, but it comes down to communication and being clear about which days you'll be able to drop something off.
  14. I've found Clean Green to be great at that residue.
  15. I don't really know either. My steel framed and steel forked gravel bike is around that weight as well.
  16. Can anybody recommend a route to nasrec from rosebank side? The N1 was chock full last year and I would love a less stressful journey.
  17. Pick the frame that you like best and put good components on it. Easy.
  18. Only the initial ramp - the loop is gone... probably for the best?
  19. There is another thread that covers the Garden Route well. In short, I'm a big fan of GRTP, Harkerville is not what I'd call a bike park (I'd hardly even call the trails biking trails), but the new trails at Cairnbrogie get rave reviews.
  20. What you should start doing is lowballing others and buy every bargain you see, then trying to resell them for R15k more. Doesn't seem to be a mentally taxing business model judging by some of the dealers on here. If you have enough capital you can corner the market. Maybe in a few years you can buy bikemarket... With a 50% lowball offer
  21. How are they supposed to sell it for the same price you asked if they offer you your asking price? 💩
  22. I want to joke with but then I saw the exploded animations in the promo video and began to desire one
  23. Building it part by part will be expensive. Look out for a Large size Merida Big Nine or Titan Drone on the classifieds. You can expect to spend around R10k for a decently specced used 29er hardtail. Something in that range should sort you out for quite a while.
  24. Unfortunately a pretty common problem. Trailforks helps but it shouldn't be too hard to get it right on the ground.
