  1. Thanks for trying to help, but @ R150 I will rather wait a bit to arrange with someone local. :thumbs-up:
  2. Got my first order of raw milk from Organic Emporium yesterday. Milk tastes plain, almost nutty. They never carry Kefir stock, though. Can someone on the East Rand spare some Kefir? PM me if you can help.
  3. LMAO! Made me think of Jozi Shore vid from YouTube. "The biggest gym in the world, it's the kitchen, BOET!"
  4. Pity that Shimano don't offer something similar to SRAM's QuickLink/PowerLink. The replacement pins are ridiculously expensive.
  5. Heard from my mechanic that Shimano chains aren't supposed to be joined with a PowerLink...more likely to get a stiff link. Something to consider if your chain is not SRAM.
  6. Nice! Gf and I bought a Husqvarna No. 10 "Reliance" meat grinder recently at the Irene Market. Has a rustic charm, but turns out one can't use a meat grinder for coffee beans :'( Any recommendations where to get an old-school coffee grinder in Gauteng?
  7. Htone, thanks for sharing the Wheat Belly vid. Gives me some credibility when the family mocks my diet and I couldn't fend off the following argument: "Previous generations also ate lots of wheat products and didn't have obesity problems, so bread and starches can't be the problem and LCHF is dumb and unhealthy. Exercise more!". Even though some of the content was sensationalist (the cholera centre pictures on the slide when he was talking about leaky gut caused by gliadin proteins), there was great info in that lecture! I'm happy that LCHF made me avoid wheat products as a consequence of limiting carbs.
  8. This thread get you so excited you can't control yourself?
  9. What's so bad about Macadamia nuts' phytic acid content? It's supposedly very low compared to other nuts. Abstract is @ http://europepmc.org/abstract/AGR/IND43623329/reload=0;jsessionid=ydXW7a0WGjejGnWhROzn.24
  10. Some labels differentiate between digestible carbs and fibres (non-digestible, for humans at least). So your peas have a total carb content of 14.4g (5g digestible + 9.4g non-digestible), of which 1.5g is sugar.
  11. http://www.marksdail.../#axzz2bmfIMh6n Flaxseed oil tastes offensive and my digestive system hits the eject button every time I add it to my morning coffee. Glad to hear I no longer have to feel guilty about giving the half-empty bottle in my fridge the cold shoulder. EDIT: Topwine, thanks for asking questions and your contrarian/devil's advocate stance. It's easier to go with what the majority of people are saying, but that doesn't make conventional wisdom right: Flaxseed advice being a case in point.
  12. Whatever make you buy, be sure to buy from a reputable LBS whose mechanics can dial in the bicycle right as well as pick up on any faults before you collect your new bike.
  13. Get tekkies that are made for tubeless. CWC are running specials every so often. I used plain Conti MKII tyres for my ghetto tubeless front and back. Wasted a lot of time with the rear wheel which wouldn't hold air overnight, which made me regret being penny smart (saved R500) but pound foolish (lost many hours of riding). Even though my front wheel is rock-solid, my next tyre purchase will be a tubeless tyre.
  14. So Braeside ran into trouble sourcing tripe and lung this week. They might have next week.
  15. Think you're missing Hannes's point. He's complaining about suppliers deceiving their customers with false output numbers to create a false sense of value in the customers' minds. I don't see the hypocrisy in calling out companies lying to their customers, unless Extreme Lights were lying themselves... It's as if those half-filled 150gr chips packets were suddenly advertised as 300gr because they could hold that much - IF they'd been packed full. Customers have a right to know what they are buying.
  16. Anyone in Johannesburg looking for grass-fed lung or tripe should stop by Braeside Butchery. Asked them to get some for me on Monday, was told they'd get by Thursday. Picking up mine today.
  17. I also gave up on my ketone dip stick readings after never showing more than traces. Might be that the dip stick readings aren't reflecting your blood ketone levels (there are 3 types, one of which is only a pseudo-ketone). Don't let the low dip stick readings get to you if you feel strong and not experiencing energy dips during the day despite missing meals, etc. Other indicators of being keto-adapted are acetone-breath and pungent urine Good luck.
  18. 6" or 6'??! TMI!
  19. Easier when at the coast! Inlands, Checkers Hyper have a good selection of fish at low prices. Have to ask my Checkers whether they get whole sardines and mackerel, as only Salmon comes to mind atm. The following link has good info on different canned fish Omega 3 values. It's a conventional wisdom ad, so fat% tables were omitted. http://www.glenryck.co.uk/pages/healthy-diet.htm
  20. Finish Line phoned me this morning. Items ordered and stock expected on Wednesday.
  21. Damn straight! Nice shop!
  22. Finish Line had a nice selection of bikes and accessories. They had a DH tube for my 2.4" tyres, but only with a Schrader valve. Trackie will order a DH tube with a Presta valve for me. :thumbs-up:
  23. Enjoy the padkos! When you buy your cream do you aim to source organic cream? My thinking is that it will have more micronutrients and less PUFA just like with organic grass-fed beef. Same reason Kerrygold is preferred to cheaper butter. Woolies sell organic cream and butter (250gr @ R25), but I haven't followed up on what they consider to be "fed on an organic feed".
  24. Cycling to Finish Line tomorrow. Someone else recommended ProCycles to me which is more in the direction of Tour de Frans. I'll check them out next time I'm in that neck of the woods.
  25. Haven't tried them yet. 20km is far away, but it will be a good road ride with my worn down spare rear wheel. Everything on that wheel is moertoe: Tekkie, cassette and the rim. Conrad Stoltz should've just taken my once-knobblie-now-slick for his last Xterra win.
