  4. Hang in there Jacques. In our thoughts and prayers.
  5. If you need a lift to Argus please PM me. I am leaving Jhb Wed 6 March. The coming back bit is a bit "loaded" and would mean whoever comes down with me driving back... Jimmy
  6. Not sure if this has already been posted on the hub. Received this Last night from Carlswald Community Forum. Safe riding.... Hi Neighbours Please be aware that there was a bicycle hijacking on Saturday morning around 7am on the corner of Trotting and Gallop roads. 3 men with knives managed to take the bicycle of one cyclist (2 people were riding together). The thieves then headed off across the empty field in the direction of Summit road. The bike was a 2011 Specialized S-Works Epic 29er (that is, a white bike with S-Works in black lettering on the frame). I am told that there was another hijacking of a bicycle from a woman the week before along Stirrup road, near Paws Resort. She was pulled off her bike and kicked in the face. Don't know anything further other than both incidents were reported to the SAPS. Please warn your cycling family and friends and give them the numbers of the SAPS vehicle 011 675 6115/4 whom they can call at any time to assist. It seems like the bike thieves have moved from north of Summit road into Sunvalley/Bridle Park. Our area is a choice mountain bike route and it would be a shame to develop such a dire reputation as a hijacking hotspot. Please note too that it was cyclists who came to the aid of a staff member (who had her handbag ripped from her just behind Georges Cafe a few weeks ago) and ensured the thieves were arrested by the officers from the Sector vehicle! Radio 702 and Carte Blanche have been contacted, as it seems this is not just a case of common theft, but harkens more toward a syndicate. I was also told that people (not dressed in cycling gear) were seen loading 2 bikes onto a bakkie on Summit road - maybe the thieves have a vehicle waiting on Summit to take delivery? If you have any further information, please contact me. Be aware. Regards Bonnie 0825523444
  7. Its incredible how this community has supported this call for assistance. Well done Spokes and all the hubbers. Vasbyt Francois. Godspeed
  8. Heartbreaking news. R.I.P.
  9. From the moment I joined Outsurance i have just had K@K. This is a excerpt from the letter I received from Outsurance informing me that they weren't going to entertain my stolen bike claim During the validation of your claim it was discovered that there were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle and the item was not kept in a cubby hole. For the above mentioned reasons we have no alternative but to reject your claim..." Not even Macgyver could get a bike in a cubby hole. For all the kids out there, Macgyver was like Harry Potter but an 80's version... JimmyB2009-01-13 22:45:55
  10. Outsurance do now offer insurance for utilising the bike even on race day. Previously they wouldn't insure it for any usage. The bggest problem with these guys is they go out of their way not to pay the claim. My experience anyway.
  11. I'm with outsurance at the moment and waiting for a claim to be finalised on a stolen bike. Extremely difficult and frustrating process. They currently are not entertaining the claim as they are of the opinion that my bike was not properly secured to the rack.. Watch this space.
  12. Tragic and shocking news. RIP. I ride on my own often against my wifes wishes. This morning she saw a guy almost getting wiped out. A driver overtook the cyclist and turned left into a driveway. No indicator etc etc. She moaned at me again about cycling solo and now this. Unfortunately it seems that this incident was going to happen whether it was a group or not. We stay in Hout Bay and when chappies is open I often ride towards Simonstown. This is the second fatal hit and run in this general area in a year (maybe 18 months) and unfortunately as much as I love to ride solo this is my public commitment to my wife and family to ride with a friend. Condolences to Chris' family and friends and may you find comfort in this difficult time.
  13. I have a mate who has been nailed a couple of times in the Parklands traffic circles. Good luck with the recovery. Hope you make the DC. What team are you on?
  14. They must have had a bolt cutter. They cut the padlock and sliced the strapping. Quick. It was less the 20 minutesfrom when I parked to returning to the car.
  15. < ="-" ="text/; =utf-8">< name="ProgId" ="Word.">< name="Generator" ="Microsoft Word 11">< name="Originator" ="Microsoft Word 11"><> So yesterday I became a victim of the most heinous of crimes in Cape Town to date. Yep, some bast@rd nicked my bike. In the light of day outside the Woolworths head office in Corporation Street. These guys are fast and the have all the tools with them to "crack a bike rack". What now? I have insurance but this will be my second claim in 18 months and I think the insurance dudes will be suspecting that I am pulling an upgrade scam. Why do we always feel like criminals when we claim from insurance??? I think I would feel less guilty cruising round town and nicking someone else's bike. Anyway, as much as new bike sounds cool, I'm happy with the bike I had and if I can get it back....... So these perps must be off-loading the bikes somewhere, the question is where. I have contacted all the cash crusaders in Cape Town and the surrounding suburbs and also registered the theft on there web site. Anyway, before I come back to earth and realise that I have to face the assessor "Eye to Eye" is there a bike shop(s) in CT that deals in the second hand bicycle market???
  16. Great pic
  17. Check under details on the following site http://www.triathlonsa.co.za
  18. Fantastic David. We will be on the road 3km's from Franschhoek with our harvesting gear cheering the guys. Fantastic.
  19. Hola folks. Drive carefully. Argus weather will be partly cloud with north westerly winds up to 30km/h according to weathersa. Windguru says not more than 10 knots on the day. http://www.weathersa.co.za/Pressroom/2008/2008CapeArgusTour.jsp
  20. Have to agree. Earlier in the year there was a terrible accident at the bottom of Boyes in one of the summer races. The right turn into main road will definitely have its fair share of hard spills....
  21. Hola all. Havent been here for a while but its good to be back. Wee small problem. I have booked and have to confirm a table for the cape epic launch lunch time tomorrow and will only buy the table if I can get it filled with keen MTB'ers. The event is Tuesday night and is a black tie job at the castle in kyalami, Jhb. I'm flying up from CT Monday so potentially looking for 8 (maybe 9 if she says no) hubbers to join me. Please let me know. PM me Ciao for now.
  22. Or one of those DIY blood transfusions
  23. Yeah actually with you there. They really have spoilt it again for all the fans. Anyway, this hangover thing is pretty bad though. Still to scared to sneak back into bed and get moaned at. what I would do for a coke now. Eish.
  24. Can't believe this. Have just got up to quench the hangover thirst and checked the interactive news. Tour de farce. Its been such a great spectacle to date as its been so unpredicatable "drug free". Now Astana and Cofidis are gone. The same lab are still leaking doping details to lequippe. The administrators are still useless. The yellow jersey is jinxed man. So whats different from last year. Not much. The whole thing sucks. So should the Tour go on? I hope so. I hope that the Tour is bigger than the transgressors. I hope I go back to sleep now and when I wake up I won't have a hangover, my wife will look at me with loving eyes(yeah), I will remember where I had dinner last night and this will just be another bad dream. At least Wim Vansevenant has a good chance of winning the lantern rouge two years running. Go Wim. Jou doring.
