  1. My enduro was out of action for a bit while Stoke waited for a service kit and then came to grips with the idiosyncrasies of the Ohlins STX22. Such a lekker shock with a serious design flaw. I am hoping it holds air a bit better than it did before.
  2. I love this show - they really seem to pick some interesting personalities. The standard is pretty high too. I was sorry Tori was exited last week. I thought she had potential but then she cracked under pressure...
  3. What's the experts opinion on Durex lube? Does it have enough additives and viscosity?
  4. Lol, just go ride a real bike on the mountain or road...
  5. A fork lower leg is not an internal combustion engine - well the legs pump up and down in the lowers, but its not a high heat lubrication environment. A rear shock does sometimes get quite warm and arguably are subjected to more stress than a fork. Why does a fork require high spec engine oil over hydraulic oil, which survives for many hours in dampers?
  6. Ha ha , just teasing the Gauties from down here in Slaapstad.
  7. If its a mud fountain, is it really mountain biking?
  8. Once again a variety of contradictory and confusing posts in reply to a technical question, proving yet again that a forum like Bikehub is not the place to ask such things. ????
  9. If you can get them of course - nothing in stock by the look of it at TWT.
  10. But why even bother with Crest when you can get the Flow rims? BTW, all rims will eventually crack at the nipple holes, rear wheels far mores swiftly than front rims - its simple science.
  11. Looking at that pic, maybe these were lost on purpose with a view to an insurance claim and replacement with a more tasteful pair.
  12. There will always be one or two. If you do encounter them, make it clear that these are MTB specific trails and may not be used by runners or hikers due to serious safety concerns. Point out to them that there are hundreds of KM of non-cycling single track in the park they can use. If that doesn't work, vloek them ???? (please don't this is a joke)
  13. GX 11 is good, nice strong derailleur and pretty decent shifting. Also no issues in 4 years with springs or clutches. Its even survived being pulled on to straighten the bent hanger. That said, my even older Saint 10 speed shifter powered XT 10 speed has been dead reliable, clutch included. As Droo says, a service will cure it. A decent bike shop should have suitable grease and surely won't charge an arm and a leg?
  14. I've put out a request for data on Pinkbike - lets see if anyone bites. I think sales is only a part of the story - its the kind of riding people do. Overseas, people seem to want to learn skills, and ride trail centers and big mountains, so you'll find many people on those boring HT bikes doing just that...
  15. I'd also like some - I'm going on info gleaned from articles, comments and videos I've read or watched over many years. I've been told by UK family and friends that you have to look quite hard to fine something like an Epic because the shops are all full of trail and enduro bikes. The UK is probably a bad example as it barely has any lift assisted riding while France and North America has a lot more.
  16. Rampage is the pinnacle of gravity MTB which includes downhill, enduro and trail riding. Around the world more people do this kind of gravity fueled MTB riding or aspire to it than people who want to slog for 600 km. Bike sales around the world bear this out, everywhere except here. So you may be right about MTB in SA, but I was looking at the global picture. If you follow international MTB media and YouTube the focus is very different in the EU, UK and North America
  17. Would we not all get tummy bugs all the time riding then? I got sprayed by dirty, possibly dog poo filled water yesterday. So far it just feels like a grain of sand is stuck in one eye, but no bugs yet. On the S2C many years ago the field including me got the trots. Shorts down in mamba country was not much fun - or the 45 degree heat. I think its fellow riders more than anything else that leads to infections. Some have better immune systems than others. That and dodgy food like my S2C experience.
  18. Some decent value choices there.
  19. I ordered a liter of Total LHM+ on Takealot...
  20. Ya funny name hey - you think he is having a few cold ones as we type?
  21. What we tend to forget is that marathon stage racing is a fringe sport in the rest of the world. MTB in general has a lower viewership than many other 'mainstream" sports. The Redbull Rampage had about 50k people watching the live stream and now has nearly 650k views on the rerun. The Epic will never reach those numbers.
  22. You chose your name so we all know you love your 'E". Eish.
