  1. No you were right because your're bringing the wife and kiddies, right?
  2. Come to Tokai and show us how its done...
  3. Only gardener's know such things.
  4. This will restore some faith in the criminal justice system as far as culpable homicide sentences are concerned. I can't recall what Burry's killer driver was sentenced to in the end but I think it was less than this?
  5. Mmm, I like those flatties. I want to learn how to ride flats - I heard they were faster than cleats. Anyone seen any of the One Up plastic flats available here?
  6. The demonstrators get tired and chill and then the road opens for a while. Have you filmed any CIT's or gun fights lately. I hear everyone up there has ...
  7. He is also a bit of a drama queen - lay around as if he was half dead while his mates all poked and prodded him...
  8. There are enormous stresses involved as an MTB is ridden on properly rough terrain as we know. Their point re suspension set up is valid, but I'm not convinced that in the case of this bike, the set up was so bad that it led to the failure. Its conjecture on their part I think and should have been left out of any public communication. They scored an own goal but redeemed themselves somewhat at the end. This Alex guy does fall off quite a bit and isn't the lightest of riders and he could have impact damaged the frame there earlier or even broken it in the crash, although it looks as if it failed as he touched down. My old Enduro frame cracked in the BB area. Apparently this is a known fault area on many older carbon frames (not just this bike or brand) which were underbuilt in this area. A smaller brand like this doesn't have the same R and D as bigger brands may well have got the carbon lay up a bit wrong in this area?
  9. Its the best kind - a free for all :-) Close to start/finish, but not too close. Showers on trailers. No electricity but some lighting. Couple of drums to braai in or bring your own.
  10. If you have money to blow, the Ion K-Pact knee guards have rave reviews. Olympic Cycles in CT have a couple of pairs. Leatt is probably the best value though.
  11. Anyone seen any 2.6 -8 26er tyres for sale anywhere. I'd like to semi plus my steel beast. BTW, had another ride yesterday. Pushed the speed up to just under 50 and had no problems slowing down on a steep jeep track with the RR up front. Learning to trust it. Side knobs bite well.
  12. Dig the curves on that Hornet, Hairy.
  13. It really works very well considering. Grip levels are fine under braking in a straight line if you are careful and the cornering knobs hang in there.
  14. Nope you do that too. The more stuff that you change, the younger you feel.
  15. MY HT was bothering me a bit... it felt heavy and lethargic when pedaling. I started looking for the reason. The weight was not great - 13.8 kg with DX pedals. I took those off as one has a very bent axle and fitted some 520's. Then I swapped the Magic Mary up front for a Rock Razor. That shaved about 300g off the weight. Then I raised the seat 10mm. My first ride was promising but it took the switch to some stiff XC shoes and the seat raise to make a really noticeable difference. My ride yesterday was almost like being on a different bike which I put down to the seat height and shoes. The front tyre actually works well. I did reign it in a bit on the steepest descent but on another segment I recorded an almost record time and it handled off camber roots and pine needles rather well. Next step is a lighter back tyre although the Super Gravit RR is a nice to have when you hit rocks at speed.... Loving the Dee Dar again...
  16. I think its a Cape Town v Joburg thing. Some people don't realize things are chilled down here...
  17. I suppose they could always cancel the event and have it next year - then you'd have 15 months notice. Would that be enough?
  18. "The 2.8 seems to roll faster than the 2.6, I think the reason for this is because while the 2.8 and 2.6 do share a tread pattern, the tread profile is not the same. The 2.8 appears to have a bigger yet shallower tread profile to the 2.6 which I assume has lead to my assumption... I have been playing around between 22 and 24psi." You will also find that where the tyre is used plays a role - especially with our perception of whats slow rolling and what isn't. If your front is lightly loaded (as it usually is) almost any tyre will feel ok there. Not so at the back, which is carrying more of the riders mass... That said, Bikeradar did a test on XC tyres and found the fatter the tyre the quicker it rolled. I have found a MM fine on a dual sus bike but paired with my HT and carrying more weight as the fork compresses and my weight moves over the front wheel, it feels like heavy going...
  19. Ha ha no...actually that it may well be a bit of a drag but I can't tell because I don't know any better. Feel better?
  20. Funny I haven't really found that on my Enduro but its the only tyre I've used so far. Seems to be quite a versatile tyre. I have learned to trust it more and the bike geo does demand a more over the front riding style which helps a lot.
  21. I keep checking my Butchers, but even the rear one is holding up pretty well. I have been behaving myself with only the odd skid so that's probably helping. I am about to try a Rock Razor up front on my HT in an attempt to reduce the drag. No test rides yet, but I think it will be an easier pedal than before. Now looking for something tough but slightly less heavy than the super gravity version on the back.
